Finalizing everything!

i have some european cash reserves that could be depleted in favor of US ones. but a more official channel would probably be preferred...

You might hace a Visa or Mastercard ?
Paypal is not the alpha and omega of payment.

I agree... there are other alternative for payment processing. Most people have credit card.
If people are willing to prepoder a Pyra I think most won't mind using something else that Paypal, especially if you provide an explanation.

Paypal is popular and having it as a payment option might make a difference to some people. However I really think paypal is too risky for preorder considering past issue... Once Pyra are in stock, having paypal as a payment option would be good as some people might prefer it / be more comfortable with it.

I had a French Paypal account, used it normally for several years (5 or 6 years) without trouble.

One day I was in Iran for vacations, and tried to log in once to the Paypal website. They locked my account without any warning or making any checks. Then to unlock it, they requested lots of documents like a copy of my passport, a proof that I lived in France (which I didn't have anyways at the time as I was traveling for 1 year). They felt entitled as if they were my own government. Well, they aren't. They are a private American company with stupid policies.

I'm no longer using Paypal of course.

PayPal is a daughter company of the J.P.Morgan Chase Bank, the same one that handles the US government finances, so of course it's all about American politics and who's currently on the list of "rogue states".

I do. Though through the bank they charge insanely for international conversions (something like this would easily set me back 800+usd due to how they settle the action)

Through PayPal, the bank simply recognizes it as a USD purchase and PayPal handles the conversation (at the correct to market prices) for the international order.

Yes, it is silly that they add more charges over a simple transaction. Why? Because America.

Wait, so you got mad at PayPal because they tried to prevent someone from stealing your money, and you refuse to use them because they asked for proof that you were the actual account holder and not some random person that somehow gained access to the account before they unlocked it after a suspicious login from a place you had never logged in from before?

Isn't Bitcoin going to be accepted? That would almost seem like a no-brainer these days, and can be used from anywhere.

Hmm, from what I have seen, PayPal charges a higher transaction fee than a bank, usually.

With a bank, you usually have a fixed fee (often about 10 EUR) whereas PayPal doesn't use correct market prices... in fact, when the market price is 1,12 EUR / USD, PayPal often converts at 1,08 EUR / USD.

I would love to, but right now, the BitPay module for PretaShop is not EU Advanced compatible (and as I am in the EU, I need to use EU advanced).

I really have to look into that.
I am also thinking migrating to Magento instead of PrestaShop, as it seems to be a lot more advanced these days.

If there is a PHP-Developer here, maybe you could help me fixing the bitpay module. It shouldn't be too hard, and the source code is available.

I may have to go and check things through my bank. Usually paypal actually gets me a better exchange. Though its been a while since I used my bank account direct for any international purchases [the last incident was what actually lead me to use paypal for international things at least]. Hopefully things have changed.

Hey ED.. Could I bring you an idea? Have you considered preordering with Stripe?

They have a template for an excellent online store. https://shop-demo.parseapp.com/

I have used this template before to sell a single project and it works wonders.... Stripe is available in Germany, and their fee's are the lowest I've seen.

Excellent team.. direct sales. :)

Edit: I will happily assist in setting up this payment portal if you want for preorders?

+1 for bitcoin! i dont think any other payment method has such low fees and high acceptance rates

> Stripe charges just 0.8% per successful Bitcoin transaction, capped at $5. There are no other fees.

pretty good :)

whereas using my (bitcoin funded) CC , i would have to pay 1.4% to stripe's tx fees and about 2% conversion costs..

thats about 15 euro extra , vs directly stripe-btc is 4 euro extra
still weaker then 'real' bitcoin which would cost me about 4 eurocents on fees ..

Yes. If they wanted to make sure it was me, they could have sent me a verification email like all other websites do.
Can you use your bank website's while on vacation ? I expect to be able to.

I was in France, Italy, Greece and Turkey before arriving in Iran. Paypal didn't block my account in any of these countries...

does ED's shop take credit cards (visa, etc.)?

i've transferred some money using xe trade and that seems like a decent rate. my US bank charges through the nose for electronic transfers. the European banks seem much better in this regard, at least within the EU. (which is why it's nice to have some left over euros to send to ED.)
