Finalizing everything!

does ED's shop take credit cards (visa, etc.)?
Yeah I believe he does, the only annoyance for me is my bank usually freezes the credit card sale to confirm I really placed an international order.

If the pre-preorderers have to pay an additional 100€ to preorder the 4G units on May 1st, shouldn't other preorderers also have to pay 390€ for it? In the Dragonbox shop the 4G units preorder price is still listed as 290€. Is this just a mistake at the shop or is there a misunderstanding on my side? It would be really annoying for someone who planned to pay "just" 290€ to see the price go up to 390€ on the day of the first payment.

I am also curious to know this.

i'll probably just go all in at that point (if i have to pay 100euro more, might as well put in the rest)... excited!

Hey ED.. Could I bring you an idea? Have you considered preordering with Stripe?

They have a template for an excellent online store. https://shop-demo.parseapp.com/

I have used this template before to sell a single project and it works wonders.... Stripe is available in Germany, and their fee's are the lowest I've seen.

Excellent team.. direct sales. :)

Edit: I will happily assist in setting up this payment portal if you want for preorders?

I've heard positing things about Stripe from a developer using it.
I don't know enough about it to really recommend it, but it certainly seems like a viable option.

I may have to go and check things through my bank. Usually paypal actually gets me a better exchange. Though its been a while since I used my bank account direct for any international purchases [the last incident was what actually lead me to use paypal for international things at least]. Hopefully things have changed.
Your bank has worse exchange rates than PayPal?
Have you considered migrating to another bank?

BTW:
It seems PayPal payment will not be possible for the preorders, I just received a reply from them.

It doesn't make sense though, as the reason was not particularly me or the product, but crowdfunding in general. According to PayPal, Crowdfunding is too risky so they can't support it.
The funny thing is that backing with PayPal is possible on Indiegogo...

So the Pyra is more risky if I crowdfund it myself, but less risky if I crowdfund it via Indiegogo...? Aaah... yes, makes perfect sense :D

The issue here may be one of phrasing. It sounds like you approached them for processing orders for crowdfunding a specific product. However, that isn't REALLY what you're selling as the amount in the payment will not be adequate to fund the item delivery. The ammounts are transferable and refundable (minus transaction fees). If the purchaser chooses they can apply that amount to other items in your store. Essentially you're selling DragonBox store electronic gift cards.

For it to be truly a crowd-funded project, the end 'funders/purchasers/other' who provide the money would be expected to pay in full then go wait for 4-8 months. In your case people are purchasing store credit (usable on anything in the store) that comes with a bonus free 'line placeholder' should the purchaser decide to use that voucher toward the purchase of a Pyra.

They're not buying a place in line - the place in line is a free bonus gift for purchasing ~300EUR of electronic store credit.

Yea i've looked into this a bit. my odds seem sort of against me. Either I end up at another big bank or i take the chances with a no-name trust union.

I will gladly pay an extra 100€ at any time (hell, I'll pay the full amount) if it actually guarantees me a 4G unit.
Problem is I need a new phone, and if ED changes his mind that means the Pyra isn't going to be it, so I may need that money back. I don't want to be jerking him around too much.

Do you absolutely need 4G in your new phone? Coverage here is kind of sketchy, so if I go for a 4G unit it's kind of future proofing for when the network improves, and maybe the latency over 4G will make network gaming more possible than over 3G if I can find somewhere with it. But I've used a 3G dongle with my laptop before on train journeys, and it's perfectly workable for web browsing.

So for me a 3G pyra is almost as valuable as a 4G one right now.

I don't know where you live. I work at Telecom operators in Europe. The general consensus is that 3G will die before 2G. Of course this is not going to happen overnight but if you want to keep your Pyra 8+ years, this must be in your mind as well. In 2024, the 3G network might be the low-coverage one.

here in tokyo many places especially underground has 4G coverage but 3G doesn't reach. I think sweden is similar by now so by all means, I want EU 4G on my pyra. (it will work with my current JP prodiver I think, while for US 4G bands I'd have to switch to another one...)

Will there be a Counter or something that tell, how many Pyras are sold on Sunday, so i can open a bottle Bruch Zwickel Bear when the goal was reached??

And when someone dosnt have the time to order at sunday, will it also be open on the week after the 1st Mai??

Yes. My carrier is AWS and I refuse to go with any of the "big names".
What carrier/country? If you're desperate in needing a workable handset, maybe someone here has an old smartphone sitting in a desk drawer that they would loan out or sell cheap to get you by until the Pyra exists?

As to the 3G/4G conversation... Either module's primary purpose is mobile data connectivity. 4G data is 30 times faster than 3G data. 3G data speeds are generally adequate for streaming audio, but not video.

4G is a viable way to sync up your mobile device data on the go. 3G is not.
With 4G, in a 15 minute walk through an airport (strong coverage) I can download 13.5 Gb ~ 1.6 GB.
With 3G, in a 15 minute walk through an airport (strong coverage) I can download 0.05 GB.
