Pyra news partially stale from the dragon's mouth

So February /March will be the 2 Month’s (tm) that are the most interesting on this Boards?
Lots of Pictures from the Preeproduktion, the Case MP Run and the actual Massproduktion are to be expected..

I was desperately searching for a replacement of my HP Jornada. But the Pandora was lacking some things I wanted. Namely the HDMI output and the backlit keyboard with not just gaming in mind. When I saw the preorder campaign for the Pyra, I knew this was it!
I already tried a Gemini meanwhile which promised a more typing friendly keyboard, but honestly, I was a bit let down by the Linux support.
Everybody was talking of its great Keyboard, but comming from an Jornada or Nec or Psion the Keyboard was rubbish in my opinion (no scissor mechanics, which made the Keys very wobbly and unprecise) and there was no adequate mouse replacement that would be precise enough to use a normal desktop environment. Furthermore transparency in the design stage was awful compared to the Pyra.
All of this is the reason, why I'm still on board and due to all the transparency of the development, I'm sure the Pyra will be GREAT!
For me the Pyra is a crossover of a Nintendo DS, Nokia N900 and a Jornada, which perfectly fits my usecase.

I'm eagerly awaiting production <3

Just bear in mind I prefer my Psion keyboard significantly to the one on my Pandora. Now the pyra has a different mechanism from the Pandora, but I'm expecting something that's better than that but not necessarily as good as my Psion 5 keyboard. I could adapt to the Pandora keyboard, but I disliked it when games used too many buttons and I needed to use a keyboard key for something frequently used.

So I'm anticipating that the Pyra keyboard will be good enough to use, but may not be the best thing ever.

I guess it will be at least as good as the one on my N900 and I was fine with that one.
It doesn't need to be good at touchtyping. Thumbtyping is good enough most of the time, but the Gemini keyboard felt just wrong as either thumbtyping (mostly due to the awkward and sharp hinge) or touchtyping. Personally I don't understand why they didn't use a scissor mechanism. I'm pretty sure that would have fixed the problem. Especially the Enter and Space keys were just terrible. You had to hit them very precisely in order to work.
As the Pyras keys are more the size of a 200lx you can't hit them wrong. You either hit them or not, just like on an 200lx.
I agree that the Pyras keyboard may not be as good as the one on a 5mx/Netbook or Jornada/Nec, but I understand there is a compromise between size and function, so I'm OK with that. Especially the Nubs use a lot of space, but as one can also use them as a mouse or play some cool games, this is not necessarily a bad choice. The touchtyping Keyboard was also the reason for a lot of devices being too big to comfortably carry in a pocket, as they were just to long.
You could put a 200lx in a Jeans pocket easily. You could even touchtype on it with some practice.

I really like the fact that Evli Dragon doesn't rush the product, like everyone else does. A good design needs some time, but will endure.

Did anybody spot that I started a new keyboard thread? \o/

are we there yet ? :p

In september my extra SIM card I ordered in anticipation for my Pyra will turn 3, still in mint collectors edition  really glad I did not buy SD Cards back then too :D just relax, neither nagging nor impatience wills peed thing up

Liest sich ziemlich stressig, erst in die eine Firma, morgen in die andere, und nächste Woche nach Griechenland, ich wünsche dir einfach mal trotzdem eine spannende Zeit,

I find the News pretty cool, but it would be too much stress for me: today at this company, tomorrow another company, and next week to Greece..

But it’s seems like where now not that far away..

It is too short to make a new test for the PCB ?? , Something like a Toolbox Pyra Crashtest like i dit per accident some weeks ago whit my Pandora

So how Crashproof is the Pyra PCB in comparasion whit the Pandora PCB?

But as i dotnt whant to make this accident (great) again, i think it should be just that thought as my Pandora and my Ebook Reader in my Pocket..

There is one thing I dotnt understand yet:
On Pandora, it’s needed Waverplates, which causes some issues as they lying around in the factory too long and rusted,
Do Global Components make the Waverplates on the fly and populate them then??
Do whe have the Wavers allready on Global Components, or are they get ordered bevor the Massproduktion?
