Gamescom, sensor upgrade and other nice news

thanks for building this huge awesome pyra-pixelwall!
:)
"Was a pleasure" isn't entirely true for all timeperiodes of the build. But summarized it was a pleasure to contribute something, which I rarely can on the other topics (like writing code or such)

It looks absolutely stunning :D
And it's one of the first things you see when entering the hall ;)

:D Mission accomplished! Thanks.
2 things:
drop the video somewhere, so I know what was running there (sometime after the show, of course)
I guess you can transport it assembled, but be protective of the front (it's just 0.1mm veneer)

If you run into storage problems, I guess @jeeks would be so kind to store it above her couch any time you don't need it (probably even without a fee) ;)

Hey @EvilDragon, I have read this on some boards, I try to do my best translating it into english:

... yesterday I was trying the Pyra, and I have to say that the sensation was very bad: Right now, the case fall appart, the screen doesn't fit well, the tactil panel is not working and I have a lot of issues trying to use the mouse. I also try to launch 3 installed emulators and none of them worked the 3 emulators freeze after it launch. The button sensation also wasn't good. It need still a lot of work.

Well the final case isn't finished, I don't think all the prototypes have the final keymat. The Touchscreen settings need to be modified as it's 270 degrees off because of the screen rotation done by TILER. And it's true the software needs a lot more work.

It's still in prototype form.

True, but it's disappointing to hear there might be troubles using the nubs to control the mouse, which I'd thought was already fixed fully. And I'd assumed they keymats were the final ones which should feel pretty good. It might just be someone trolling the project, but I'd still like to hear from someone here who's tried those things (other than ED ideally) who can confirm or deny.

The GPD Win does seem to be getting much more footfall at the show, but that's perhaps not surprising as it should run standard x86 precompiled games, while the Pyra needs things ported to it before they will work for now.

Yeah, that's why I posted that here: I want to contrast the information. I am not a fanboy of any project/company/game/football team/whatever, but I want to gather all the information and opinions I can to merge them and try to make my own idea on my head. This is it: I try to be impartial and objetive.

Strange mentality...
I just got a GPD Win, because of x86 and project 1999, sorry there, the pyra is also not in my price point, but I would never criticise it. it seems great and the work done on it was just superb. I still love my pandora even trough I'm using it less these times...

Hey @EvilDragon, I have read this on some boards, I try to do my best translating it into english:
I had the pyra in my hands at the GamesCom (shortly I addmit, because had to catch my train).
Looks (mostly) like trolling. The nubs a superp from my opinion, presice to navigate and a really nice click (which I need to get used to, because they weren't at the pandora). And I need to think of a way to get ma beloved middle-click for linux use.
The cases (some of them) still had the known issue to not closing compledly (the gap in the front). And I have tested both keymats, the one with the totaly flat one in Halle some time ago and the new rounded ones at gamecom. That is a major improvement!
Hadn't test much software, though.
I guess that guy simply grabbed something, without asking for information (ED brought some unfinished parts, too, so I guess taht guy grabbed one of those)

I had the GPD Win in my hands, too (was mainly trolling from ED to hand it). The keyboard is not very good (which is VERY politly to say, because it I had difficulties to feel the difference between to keys next to each other). The nubs uf that thing basicly feel like pushing your fingers in warm butter... (they bend so easily, I thought they were broken. Honestly!)

Very very tiny review based on a short testing time:
Nubs: I did a few mis-clicks with the nubs, probably because I'm used to manhandling my Pandora's nubs, but that's just something you get used to over time (had the same issue with the PS Vita sticks). The Win's sticks felt kind of "loose", like, they were not moving the cursor as I expected. No idea if there's some setting to change the sensitivity.

Didn't pay too much attention to the keyboards, just typed nonsense while on the desktop.
Pyra: I didn't notice anything bad about the Pyra keyboard. I write a lot of stuff on my Pandora, and I'll write even more on my Pyra once it'll get here.
Win: Nope. Won't even do a Hello World on that one. The keys are closer together than on an on-screen keyboard in portrait mode.

Case quality:
The Win wins that one. Very nice build quality! Didn't really look as if that case was a prototype. Also, I'm a sucker for shiny screens although they're annoying once you're near a light source.
The grey (old) Pyra case was, well, not that good. Has some gaps between the case parts, and the plastic looks strange (ED explained that already). The clear (new) one looked (and felt) definitely better. Didn't spot any gaps there.
Biggest difference is probably the amount of screws and individual case parts. The Win doesn't exactly look like a case modder's dream, but the Pyra in turn could come across as a bit more fragile (although it feels super sturdy).

(Sorry for any weird grammar and autocorrect mess-ups, I'm at a family gathering and they just started the wine course :D)

Why would you not criticise something that can be improved? Just look at Star Wars Episode I-III to see what happens if all you got is a bunch of yes sayers around you.

sorry, what I meant was trolling...

Here something Pyra-centric again.
A screen ghosting comparison between the Pandora and the Pyra. Using ED's blue pandora, and running the exact same game (Phoenix on Atari 2600 emu), You can clearly see the Players bullet on the Pyra screen, where it's almost invisible on the Pandora (that game trigger the worst case LCD Refresh scenario: little white pixel on black background moving quickly).

Nice, this will be ace for C64 emulation :)
What's the difference in brightness like?

@Eight Bit : you mean, for outside-in-the-sun use? I haven't tried. I used the Pyra only inside the Gamescom or at the hotel, but I haven't tried outside, sorry, so I cannot say.
What I can say is that the picture is clear, and detailled, and you cannot see any ghosting at all from my little use.

Hey @EvilDragon, I have read this on some boards, I try to do my best translating it into english:
If he didn't use the transparent one he didn't have a good experience, the case isn't fitting good on the grey one. That made the nubs more stiff, also the touchscreen isn't optimal yet. If it was the final product I wouldn't be happy, but ED is working on it and you would know if you try the transparent case prototype as the nubs/triggers work much better already.
