... we're still alive!

Well, that's not really a lot of work. We did the keyboard setup for the Pyra within one day ;)

The idea is great, but the improvement too little.
Nah, I'd love having a phone with gcc and xorg again, the performance is not the issue for me (maemo worked fine on the original cpu imho), it's just the price. My current hopes are to use a pyra with gsm, headset and ~1 day battery life as phone/replacement... as long as the headset port is a standard 4-wire 3.5mm jack and there is no freerunner-like audio/echo problem, I see no deal breaker there.

Edit: aehm.. haven't thought about that ... is the modem fully wired up so we can use it as a phone?

Maximum failure rate for us is 5%, everything else is covered by GC (though it will probably be a lot less).

This means my calculation is based on the fact that we pay for 1000 but only receive 950 working ones.

So, in case of the eMMC that means:
8GB = 4 EUR = 4000 EUR for 950 = 4,21 EUR
16 GB = 7 EUR = 7000 EUR for 950 = 7,36 EUR
32 GB = 10 EUR = 10000 EUR for 950 = 10,52 EUR

If I keep he planned margin of 15%, then the prices would be:
8 GB: 4,84 EUR
16 GB: 8,46 EUR
32 GB: 12,10 EUR

So using 32GB eMMC instead of 8GB will increase the end price by 7,26 EUR.

BTW: Read something interesting today:
The production costs for an iPhone SE (16GB) is estimated at 160 USD. The sales price is 399 USD.
That's 250% profit.

iPhone SE (64GB) is estimated at 170 USD. The sales price is 499 USD.
That's 293% profit.

Now, if I would take 250% profit on the production costs of one Pyra, it would cost 875 EUR... instead, the price will be around 500 EUR

It was similar to the Pandora, and then there are always people who complain that it's only overpriced because I am greedy an want to make a lot of money..

I'm glad you're comfortable with where you're at on it.

This seems odd - maybe it got caught in translation. 250% * 350 = 875. So I'm assuming that 350EUR is your estimated cost of components and assembly. So, as it includes the component costs, 875EUR is not 250% 'profit'. It isn't even 150% profit. More likely it is 150% over the cost of manufacture - not even the fully loaded costs.

At 500EUR that means that your room for overhead, returns, advertising and hopefully profit is all rolled into 150EUR. Moving the component prices up by 10EUR while maintaining a price point of 500EUR would seriously impact whatever portion of that 150EUR is the actual profit. Considering the upfront capital and time requirements, not to mention putting up with all of us, you deserve to make a good profit on this.

It's not really 500€ as it's the price without the VAT, or maybe I'm wrong?

Speaking of Neo900, http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.handhelds.openphoenux.user/229 has good news for the Pyra (and not so good news for the Neo900).

I do like the Neo900 concept and i think it would be perfectly fine for me (since I'm still using an N900 as my only phone, that probably isn't surprising). I would still be on board if GDC were handling the project.

*scratch* then I misread the other post. I thought all the components together were 250 EUR (incl. case, etc. but without failure rate and manufacturing/testing)

The Pyra should be cost what it cost, and i ditnt find 8 € more for the big MMC Module that dramatic..
The Pyra will be a expensive toy, 8€ less or more dosnt matter much..
Ok if the 3G Modell reachs the 1000 € mark, then i would buy the Wifi Modell..
But im ready to pay up to 650€ for the Pyra..

But: on Pandora, whe learned to get used to the specs whe had, expacely on the CC Units:
256 mb ram, and about 250mb internal storage, wasnt that much, but whit lots of work, they got even RTCWolfenstein to work..
And Yedi Knight 3..
So even the lowest specs on Pyra will be pure luxus compared to my god old CC Pandora..

So im fine whit everything you decide for the final unit, as long its works..

The CC units have 512MB of storage like every other model.

Also a reason why i dotnt care about the Pyra Internal Storage:
On Pandora i only used the NAND to store the OS, so i ditnt know the exakt sice of it..
I have a 128 gb and a 32 gb SD Card in my Pandora..

Ahem... not EVERY other model... in fact, about 150 1GHz units have 1GB storage... but that's not publically known.
They were delivered with only 512MB enabled, but if they are reflashed with the latest version, the 1GB become available.
Those were some of the last 1GHz units sold :)

Awww you just spilled the beans.

Interesting - now THAT is a great Easter Egg for those who bought some of the last units. Nicely done!

WHAT'S YOUR ORDERNUMBER?!? ;)

How would you determine if you had one of these units? Would the new size show up in gparted or something?
Just flash SZ 1.72 or later and check the free space on NAND. Note that you must do a full reflash and not just run the online OS upgrade.

Actually it's a bit strange nobody ever noticed it (or haven't posted a thread about it at least).

Ah I knew a 512MB/1GB NAND PoP memory existed, just didn't know it ended up in any Pandoras.
