I didn't really want to touch the issue with the caps. After thinking about it a bit this is what I have to offer:
Suffering and war and death happen, and are indirectly a power of everyday life (maybe your food, or clothes, or transportation, or, as discussed here, electronics, plus countless other things). This particular issue is not one I have concerned myself with, and even then I wouldn't try to push my feelings on others. I am with
@WizardStan and others on letting ED stick with what he feels is right.
Based on what
@hns said, I would like to see if his experiments can solve the problem with ceramic caps, which I prefer for one of the reasons he mentioned. If that works out it may not be an issue.
To further support the team, I say stick with the screaming caps. Maybe they will give us a bit of the feel of using a system with a CRT! Retro gaming and all that. If nothing else it might irritate others, which makes me smile, and it could provide an opportunity to educate those that identify the source of the buzz and speak up about the Pyra and the questionable source of some materials used in electronics.
I probably won't mind if we get the current capacitors and their song. If it bugs me I will get used to it (seal off my ear canals with earbuds). I would say don't delay production over this, but it really isn't my place to say that. If the decision is to try to source conflict free tantalum caps, I am fine waiting. If we get the "evil" ones I won't hold it against ED and hns, but if they are opposed to using them I say one of the other options is a better choice.
When you said that I thought it might be related to queening. Maybe so, but not in the way I usually encounter that term.
