This is a bugfix release for 1.54RC!

Fixes since v1.54RC:

  • FIX: OS updater: should now ask for reboot after kernel update
  • FIX: OS updater: attempted to fix hang during update
  • UPDATE: Config tray: added USB storage item (pmprog)
  • FIX: Kernel: fixed potential crash on USB cable unplug
  • UPDATE: Added DSP firmware and startup script to the main image, to be used by .pnds
  • FIX: Kernel: another attempt to fix charging LED
  • UPDATE: Kernel: added persistent_ram driver which preserves last kernel session log in /proc/last_kmsg (useful to debug kernel crashes, only works if unit is not powered down)
  • FIX: Kernel: freed a few more MBs or RAM
  • UPDATE: Kernel: wifi: added calibration NVS dump/load ability
  • FIX: PNDstore updated to work on latest firmware (Tempel)
  • UPDATE: sample DisplayLink/udlfb xorg.conf added (Takedown)
  • FIX: Kernel: USB OTG related crash fix + driver tweaks

As a reminder, the previous changes (from 1.53 to 1.54RC):

  • UPDATE Kernel updated to 3.2.39
  • UPDATE Now comes with every released TI SGX kernel driver so any version of SGX binary blobs can be used
  • UPDATE Switched to more stable hugetlb patches from ARM (feature mostly used by PCSX currently)
  • UPDATE Backported CMA (contiguous memory allocator) from 3.5. This eliminated need to reserve VRAM, so more general RAM is available and more VRAM can be allocated on demand (larger resolutions can be used with hardware scaler)
  • UPDATE various fixes for OTG driver (cable switching between host/peripheral modes should work better)
  • FIX Various OMAP specific fixes backported from newer kernels
  • FIX Fixed the issue that you couldn't switch the GUI, reboot or shutdown from XFCE4 (introduced in 1.53)
  • FIX Fixed an issue of DM3730 not suspending fully (concerns 1GHz units)
  • FIX Maybe fixed charging LED (again..)
  • FIX Passwords with special characters should now work as well
  • NEW Enabled TASKSTATS, DM_CRYPT, xz support and some more USB drivers
  • NEW Added LED-Settings dialogue. You can now set brightness setting for your Power LED and also disable / enable the SD1/SD2/Bluetooth/WiFi LEDs
  • NEW Added MiniMenu WiFi Tool (setup WiFi connections from MiniMenu)
  • NEW Added File Associations for PNDs. Now PNDs can setup different filetypes in their PXML file. Double clicking an associated file will automatically run the PND and load the file.
  • NEW openal and udlfb added
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Upgrading from a previous SuperZaxxon version (1.5x):

It's recommended to use the update tool:

http://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=szupdater1.openpandora.org

The "Upgrade Pandora OS"-Version will most likely cause issues, as there's a bug in there (that is fixed once you have 1.54 installed).
If you REALLY want to do that, here are some brief instructions:

1. The upgrade process might hang. If it doesn't do anything for a few minutes, stop it and restart it (without rebooting). This issue is fixed with 1.54 Final, but as you are upgrading from an older version, it might still happen.
2. VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to run the upgrade process TWICE IN A ROW! Do NOT toggle Wifi or reboot the unit inbetween! Simply run it two times. If you don't, you will lose the internal Wifi drivers (due to a bug in opkg).
NOTE: That does mean that you need to do it at least THREE times in a row if it hangs! You need to run the upgrade a second time once it completed successfully (without hanging).

Please reboot the Pandora after upgrading.

Be sure to backup any important data you might have in your NAND for the above reasons.
It is recommended to do a full flash in case you are encountering any issues.

Upgrade instructions using the Full-Flash-Image:

Download SuperZaxxon Final v1.54
Download SuperZaxxon Final v1.54 without internal Wifi drivers

Please note: Flashing the new firmware will put your unit back into a default state. All your settings and users will be lost. Of course, this does not apply to PNDs which save their stuff on the SD-Card.

To install it, simply extract the archive onto the root of your SD Card.
Insert the SD Card into the left slot. Keep R (shoulder) pressed while switching on your Pandora and select "Boot from SD1"
It will then flash the firmware onto the NAND. After it's finished, reboot your Pandora and patiently wait until the First Boot Wizard appears on the screen.

If "Boot from SD1" doesn't appear, try to reformat the SD Card using Panasonic SD Formatter, recopy the files and retry.

Please let us know any issues you encounter.

To Add to that:

"Unless the update tool explicitly ask you to do so"

Upgraded with the update tool without problems - thanks to all who put their time into this (especially notaz) !

  • UPDATE: Config tray: added USB storage item (pmprog)
  • Would it be possible to add a third item to this submenu => mount both sdcards ?
  • Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to open the config tray ?

did the upgrade procedure directly from my Pandora before reading this, and only ran it once. Will have to do a full reflash to get my wifi back! (that's another thing for after work then I suppose ;) )

Could the second upgrade run still be executed after a reboot if an alternate connection to the net is used?  eg BT or USBnet?

Might save some people from having to do a full reflash if so...

I was getting ready to head in for work at 6am when I read the warning about the wifi drivers, only quicky booted up the Pandora to confirm my suspicions! I have an ethernet adapter for my Pandora, I wonder can I use that to reupgrade, just to see if that'll work?

Yes, that does work as well.

Stupid question time, is USBnet the same as using a USB to Ethernet connection? And if so, how to I turn on network manager now it's vanished from my taskbar? (I don't know anything about terminal commands I'm afraid)

Tried to do an update on my "User Pandora" (I have two), which was running SuperZaxxon RC3 (I think) .. so a full-firmware update.

However, no matter what I try, it reports a CRC error - need my update.log?

I'm sorry but where is the Upgrade Pandora OS app? I'm guessing it's under System, but how is it called there? I cant seem to see it...

Also, why are we still using PNDStore and not PNDManager?

It's only been presented as an option on the last few firmwares, it's possible if your Pandora is still on an older version, that only a full reflash will be available to you for upgrading?

Ah - I have Release 1.5 - SuperZaxxon (Booting Kernel 3.2) according to the start-up screen. I'm guessing that's a bit older? :p
