SONY PlayStation Vita (PS Vita)

One question, should I wait for a price drop which knowing SONY will happen, and or more games

are available.

The rumours of it being dropped by Japanese Developers is putting me off also.

I've noticed some pretty big issues with my screen. Almost looks like bubbles between the screen itself and the touch panel in front of it. Going to exchange it today - hopefully it's just a fluke! Anyone know how I can easily transfer all the games/savedata to the new unit when I get it?

The screen issue seems to be a manufacturing defect. I saw several topics on Gamefaqs that discusses that issue(or something similar), it appears to be the new "dead pixels" topic.

In regards to your games/saves, it should all be on your memory card right? I still havn't fired my unit up yet, but on the PS3 you must deactivate your unit thru PSN(there should be an option under account), and then when you log in with the new unit, all of your information and purchases should transfer over.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. It also occurred to me the Content Manager Assistent might be useful here, and sure enough, there's a backup feature in it. It says if you restore the backup to a different Vita, some content might be restricted - but I imagine all my stuff will work once I get the new one set up with my PSN account.

I really hope this isn't a widespread issue (meaning I'd have a reasonably high chance of getting another unit with it), because it's terribly annoying... :(

Yeah, just make sure to check the process for switching units(maybe call customer service if you need to), before you return it. I know with the PS3 if you don't deactivate your console, and then you return it or sell it, you can't access the account again. I believe Sony gives 3 chances to switch systems or some crap(there is a limit), but a lot of users still had problems when their system died, and they couln't deactivate thru the system because it was non functional and then Sony told them they used up their transfers.

I personally sold my original 60gb PS3 last year, and I deactivated the games, but they also have a video option as well, and that didn't go thru for some reason. I called them up, and within a few minutes the service rep had me up and running on my new slim unit(games and video). So some of the older issues may have been improved, but I personally only had the one experiance.

The screen issue doesn't seem to be as high as the old dead pixels issues, but like any problem, you hear more from the defects than the working units, so I can't say how wide spread the problem is. It seems to be an OLED issue, and I doubt you have it happen a second time, but who knows? Good Luck!

Chris

The ps store is nice on it actually.I like having access to downloadable psp games.Syphon filter dark mirror etc.I think the touchscreen UI/interface works well.Simple clear and functional. Shinobido 2 seems decent but the graphics aint so hot.The bright colours of the screen though is lovely.Downloading some psn demos.Unit 13 and motorstorm rc.

Ah, thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure and deactivate it before turning it in. Another thing I'm worried about is the 3G... I already activated it, so not sure what switching that over entails either. Maybe just a sim card swap?

As far as getting another defective unit: if there is ONE defective item in an entire warehouse in China, if I buy one of that item, I will get that the defective one. Every single time - it's just my luck. :)

Here is a link to the screen issue on Gamefaqs.

If this is the problem your having, some people say its normal, but I would still return it and try for a better one. There's no harm in that right?

Hm, I'm not sure if mine fits this description. It almost looks like an LCD that has a poorly-applied screen protector on it, with bubbles. iFixit says the screen is glued to the plastic front ( http://www.ifixit.co...Teardown/7872/3 step 21), so I was thinking this comparison might actually be pretty accurate - bubbles between the screen and the plastic...? I dunno. I'll report back with the new one. :)

Yeah, that sounds like you may have a defective outer case that slipped thru production inspection. That sounds like a real bad problem, so I really don't think you'll see it again. The Vita screen should be crystal clear unless you have a screen protector in place that was installed poorly.

In regards to switching the 3G service, it should be linked to the sim, so if you switch units, you should be OK if you swap the sim. Or you using your own persoan AT&T sim? Or the one that came with the 3G unit? If your using the one that came with the unit, you should probably just cancel the service and return everything, and just reactivate with the new card in the new unit.

I'm all set up on my new system - much better screen this time around. :)

For anyone interested, changing systems just involved taking out my memory card, deactivating the old system, putting the card in the new system (after signing into PSN), and activating the new system. Good to go now. :)

Also, I didn't have to do a thing to move the 3G service - I just put the old sim in the new system.

That moving the 3G service sounds lovely. I should have got that model as a backup in case my phone goes dead. Ah well... there'll always be a v2 to get. :p

Been playing around with mine for the past 12 hours or so, no games yet. My planned MHP3 session was cut short by not being able to find a UMD Passport tutorial online so I had to muscle through that, then a firmware update AND CFW update so that the UMD Passport software would work, only to find MHP3 isn't yet on the list of UMD Passport-discounted games. Then there was the sign in/update infinite loop... How did that get past QA? Sign in, yes, needs update, sign in, yes, needs update, sign in, yes, needs update ARGH.

Anywho, some impressions...!

I'm not fond of the touch screen-only interface already. Many times I've tried to push buttons because it's easier to do than stretch my thumb. However, the touch interface works really well on the store. Plus there!

Another thing I really don't care for is the Wii/3DS-like experience they've built into it. I thought I was buying a mature device, not a child's toy, which a lot of it feels like. I think they took "friendly" and took it to mean "kid-friendly". I am disappoint there.

The screen looks great. Maybe I'm not too overly impressed since I've had an SGS2 for a while, but it really does look quite nice. I think they could have done a better job emphasizing this by building a darker UI into it, blending the screen with the rest of the unit at the screen's borders. The UI's or some games' sometimes low-res textures show their artifacts a bit too well, and I think that speaks well for the screen.

The buttons feel really nice. Since the UI and Welcome Park games don't use the buttons I haven't been able to try them out. I might get R-Type from the store just to try it out.

Nice system overall. Maybe games will change some of my impressions. :)

@wermy,

It looks like I'm gonna join you in the defective Vita line. My touch screen is acting wonky, and I first thought it was my screen protector, but now I'm pretty sure it is defective. There is one spot on the front screen that is constantly acting as though it is being touched. I removed the front and year screen protectors, and it still does the same thing.

So I'm gonna contact Amazon today and get a new one shipped. Not a big deal really, but a small pain, as now I have to go thru the deactivation, and redownload games once I get the new unit. At least I get to keep playing this one until the new one shows up.

I've changed the background colour of all my homescreen pages to black now, and keep the brightness low. Looks much better at night when there's no ambient light reflecting off the screen, though. Almost seamless!

Yeah, I'm sorry to tell it.

This is the first defective electronic device in a very long time, if ever. Amazon has already confirmed they are shipping me a new one with 2 day dleivery to arrive on tuesday, and if they ship from Vegas like the last time, I should get it monday. So I'll just play around with this for a few days, and send it back next week.

Has anybody installed the Vita's content manager on your PC? I'm running windows 7, and for some reason my PC just doesn't work with the vita and the program. I hate how companys come up with these crap programs to transfer files, and they work like shit(itunes, I'm looking at you).

Really I could care less about adding music or videos, but I would like to change my lock screen pic and wallpaper at some point. I might try it on my laptop, as that is running Vista, and see what happens. I was just curious if anyone else was having problems.

Chris

Today i played Uncharted, its my first time Uncharted because i ditnt own a ps3 (and dont wont to by something because i now have a PSVITA, its a Portable PS3 i think...

Realy Great, a good german syncronisation, and nice graphics, and the gameplay is also great :)

Beside of Uncharted i also have Little Deviants which is realy funny, and touch my Katamari,

and from the PSN i have Motorstorm RC, which is for 5 € also great to play, and GTA Chinatown Wars, which is an Playstation Portable Game, because i ditnt own this game for my PSP as UMD, but on the DS and its a good game, and it dit cost about 7 €..

The Vita is nice, it has all the Controlls you will need for Core and Casualgames, and thy all work great,

The Display is realy cool, its Big and is an OLED,

I needs only to have more experience whit the Rear Touchpad, but thats noting which is impossible...

So yes, the Vita is Great, my favored Handheld is the Pandora and the 3DS, but the Vita whas a good buy..
