Slackware inside Pandora.

Maybe i can help here to figure out Error Messages.

I do own 2 very rare Pandora Serial Ext Port Adapters to read the Serial out with Putty or another Serial Console Reader.

When you are interrested @Linux-SWAT ..i can send one of them to France for free.

With this Rare Pandora Serial Adapter you maybe are able to read all hidden Error Messages on Boot.

Since along time I am using Slackware every day. It is 14.1 version, kernel 3.2.80. Now I wanted to try the version 14.2. After installing 14.2-3 and 14.2-4 each version has problems with video files (mp4). SMPlayer gives error, mplayer only plays audio; xine is playing the files. Where is the problem ? Thanks for help.
Edit : Evopedia is no more working. In menu the whole part education is missing (Bildung). And one more thing : for Evopedia I have the database of wikipedia but some files are crashed because of SD card defect , so some parts are no longer showing. Where can I get the database files ? I tried but did'nt find.

Hm. Difficult to diagnose without serial console :(
Does the makesd image boot tot xfce4 on your Pandora?
Did you just copy the kernel to the slackware image?
Did you include kernel modules and device tree files (there was an important change there)?

Edit: another idea: can you somehow share the full SD card image?
Here's a SD image:
Md5sum is 56bcb8d28d8af399221bcc0621542639

1- it does what expected: compile stuff for several minutes, then shutdown
2- but I only got the cursor

I don't have problem with videos < 720p, try to launch mplayer from console and post logs.

Hi, nice.
But that way it is unfortunately incomplete since it is just a tar archive of the root file system. Things may already go wrong during boot.
Maybe you can simply
Code:
gzip </dev/sdb >image.gz
(i.e. the whole SD card) into some file and share? This allows to make a 1:1 copy of your card.

I don't understand what could go wrong.
It's already the whole SD card's content which is in the uploaded archive.

It is only the visible content in a SL4P-PHASE-2.tar.bz2 file. I.e. tar.bz2 format. Tar just collects all files into a single one.
So it is not an .iso or .bin disk image which is better suited for trying to run exactly the same system on a different hardware and inspect the boot process.

Code:
tar --numeric-owner --to-stdout xjf SL4P-PHASE-2.tar.bz2 | mkisofs -o image.iso -stream-media-size
won't do it ?

No, no "tar". A bitwise image of the whole disk (SD card) not an archive of the files.

Something like (assuming your SD card reader is /dev/sdb and the partitions are /dev/sdb1 etc.
Code:
gzip </dev/sdb >image.gz
The idea is to make a 100% clone of your SD card and try booting on a different device (somewhere else on this world) where a serial console is available.

Because of kinda MLO that must be copied first or so ?

for a disk image you must first unmount all partitions then used dd.. you guys know this.....

I am interested in this because I routinely hose /..... yes. still........

I assume you don't use sudo and just feel more push to keep a root session open somewhere. Otherwise there's an extra step involved before you can trash /usr or /boot and I would assume that's enough to make you realise what you're doing

my videos are 640x480. With mplayer I get the errors /home/.../.mplayer/input.conf not found and /usr/etc/mplayer/input.conf not found.
In Slackware 14.1 both files are also missing but no error and everything works(A/V). So now what ?

Did you check the md5/sha sums of the archive ?
Could you try to reinstall the SD card ?

I use the exact same image, it should work perfectly.

Slackware ARM 13.1 and onwards is built for ARMv4t, little endian, soft float, EABI.

As i'm a total ARM rookie, i'm not yet able to answer this ^^'

Hello,

Thank you.

Eventually, would you maybe have a ready to use slackware.img.gz for the MMCBLK0 (left slot) SD/MMC card ?
zcat slackware.img.gz > ... and plug and play slack.

Kind regards

Thanks man. I'm looking to fix my shoulder button so I can boot this and try it out.

I fixed an dumb error in my build scripts, so don't try this rootfs as it's clearly broken.
I'll regenerate a new one.
