GamesCom Video and Remaining Tasks

Maybe for the box art, we could try a retrogaming vibe, like using these as inspiration :

Depending on what we choose for the print (full color, color monochrome, black & white, shades of grey...), there is a way to make a cool box art. I'm willing to help, I have my share of experience doing retro vector art.

Thanks for the video, I love how much cool stuff is cramped into one area compared to just one game in a hall. Most of them you can actually play and are fun to.

Box art I wonder if you should leave it blank, all console boxes I have are printed so unprinted boxes are uncommon. Even a slight Pyra print would be nice. Sony had a folded boxes with two color print for the yppy walkman. Not too fancy but well made as I can still remember.

maybe there's a way to use a stamp (without ink) to impress a PYRA logo on it? so there's no ink wasted, just somebody's muscles? like emboss/engrave?

after jamming some PVC pipe into some cardboard, this might not be as easy/pretty as i thought...

I thought the artwork used for the Pandora box was damn nice, something similar to that I think would be sweet and just fine.

It's my opinion that I'll be good with ANY decision upon the matter. I'll weigh in on the topic just to put my two cents into, but it has very little relevance to selling the product unless it shows up on retail shelves. That's highly unlikely with each passing day. Not because of the Pyra, but because "brick & mortar" electronic stores are far fewer now and that trend will continue. Packaging is so far down the list of what I care about when it comes to the features of this device.

I'm looking at my 1GHz Pandy box and I agree with "thepinkgamer" - it's nice, and something similar would be fine. Also, if you could throw mine into a gunnysack and sling it safely towards me and nothing would be broken? I'd be happy too. Long live the Pyra (and my Pandora too) !

There is. It's usually called embossing, if it is raised (stamped from behind). The thing is that you'd need to have a metal die made (for the stamping process) and it won't look good unless you have a controlled run of the stock through a machine. Also you'd need a sturdy cardboard to show off that logo....corrugated cardboard won't cut it. I'd trust a person with a rubber ink stamp over the costs of embossing if we're trying to save some money. Red ink is cheap, and so is the creation of a rubber stamp die on a handle mounted stamp.

Good idea though. I'm all for eco-friendly packaging. Maybe ED will go with it, who knows?

Ricoh use a SOY based ink on their packaging , biodegradable green all that stuff....

That's an even better, almost cheaper and eco-friendly process (IMO). Using a red, soy based ink. A Pyra logo made into a rubber molded handle stamp. It would look rough and tough, stamped upon the box of every recipient. Looking like blood, but it's just soy based. Great suggestion, Spud42. Soy...

Yep just a simple logo would look great on the box. Would draw attention to it if it does show up in stores people would get curious.
I usually ignore boxes that are too busy with pictures unless i have to find something specific. If i saw a small white box with that logo on it without knowing the product i'd ask someone about it :p

It won't be available in retail stores though. at least not unless the shop owner order a batch of pyras for retail. so publicity should not be a critical. I like the idea though. very cool and it would even be eco friendly. we all know what we have ordered, so should people who order from the online stores. as long as we receive a nice box that is pretty enough for a keep sake, it does not need any product fotos or similar. I would've suggested a spraypaint stencil, but that is not eco friendly at all. so why not a stamp? ED could even sell these as collectibles if the logo is worth it.

Oh i had an bad Idea:

What if all other CPUs in the Future do not have Tiler more?
Then we must switch back to a Rotator Chip and that make Thing more Expensive in the Future?

ED says most chips will have that functionality already, so we don't have to consider those that don't.

@ible - Don't beet around the bush, I know for a fact that most corn & potato varieties won't even have that function implemented until 2020. That's when my hindsight will be perfect and Monsanto will be putting chips inside of GMO corn stalks...beet you to the conspiracy joke. My head hurts.

I believe ED, if you're looking into SOCs for mobile, rotating the screen is a everyday feature (or evryhour feature).

But even if a rotator chip would be needed for a future SOC you could put a (future) rotator chip in the future CPU board. There's no reason to keep a useless chip in the screen PCB just in case.
Furthermore, the software for the rotator is not finished, I think. Finisihing it now would be a waste (development, testing and ongoing maintenance until it is needed), finisihing it in the future when it is need would carry the risk of something going wrong and not being able to use the rotator properly... There's the opportunity cost of putting now a rotator in the Pyra just in case and having better or cheper rotators available in the future when the rotator is needed for another SOC.

It's my opinion that I'll be good with ANY decision upon the matter.
Yes, I don't care about the packaging. Whatever is more environmentally friendly, and that's it.

Now for fun:

rubber stamp on a handle mounted stamp ?

What about a ring stamp (not to rule them all, that would be a secure boot private key and we don't want that)
and some wax to seal the package so the receiver can tell if it has been manipulated in customs ? Would that be eco-friendly?

Evil Dragons live for centuries, and this was common in the middle ages, maybe he even has some. Just fold your letter, drop a little wax on the joint and apply your ring to it while it is hot.

If he has to make one today... well I don't know where one can have them made nowadays...

Sealed with (candle) fire...

More seriously: workplace safety concerns... candles and cardboard... mmmm.... ok, maybe organic soy ink or something.

There are specialised store that sell niche devices like that but not where i live. I have seen some back in Quebec where my parent live so they might get a few copies i don't know.
I sure would keep the box if it look clean with a nice logo. Not if it looks like an infomercial with people smiling and pretending to play games on the Pyra.

If the SoC is geared towards Android then the rotation would happen in the 3D processor, it may not have something like TILER to rotate memory without using the graphics hardware.
The Pyra could have done the same but this would have required the 3D accelerator to be fully active at all times, draining power and producing heat. And also assumed we could have gotten the driver working. The rotator chip was the low power "guaranteed" solution that works even if we couldn't get the 3D to work.

I knew someone that made totally custom jewelry, and he also made quite a few of those rings. He recently died and I have not anyone else that does anything close to what this man did. At least I have one piece that he made years ago and can enjoy his work for the rest of my life.
