Finalizing the PCBs

He's been irrational in his dealings with me.

...Look, I'm not interested in any sort of feud from a wannabe wallaby. That dude has his own issues to deal with. I'm here for my PYRA. I paid some money a year and a half ago - it's astounding that this computer isn't finished. Michael/Dragon his butt finally sent me a GPD-WIN over a year ago. It's been a great computer in everyway.

I still love my Silver 1GHz Pandora - it's capable for email and such - retro-gaming YES - I'd like to see this PYRA before I die.

actually hes a drop bear disguised as a wallaby... dont turn your back or make eye contact...... if you do dont look away....

I wonder who is the most irrationnal, him, or you ? My bet is clearly on you. As ED said, you've been banned not because of your critics but because no rationnal could make you listen to the others...

You got me - He banned me for saying "what does he have in his pouch?" - an obvious reference to a koala. An offense if I've ever heard it. It sounds even worse HERE, taken out of context - but the language police are always out for blood.

You didn't think that I would burden myself so long with it. I was curious after so long of a time to see what happened to my initial $350??? What happened.....and here we all are - arguing over the completion of a product and I'm a bad guy again - same ol' story.

Why are you feeling offended now?
No one offended you here. It was a valid question.
From the way it sounded you were totally pissed off that you put your money in and nothing happened.
Well, and then I simply wondered why you didn't ask for a refund before if this is weighing so much on you.

No offense, no bash, nothing. So why do you feel offended here now and feel like anyone here is making you look like a bad guy?

I guess the main problem is that you seem to see offense in posts that AREN'T even offensive.

[doublepost=1512568256,1512568092][/doublepost]Considering the exchange rate and how you do business... maybe I should wait another 20 years until you come out with the Pyra 2

See, and here your bashing starts again.
This is neither constructive criticism nor anything else helpful, it just sounds like you're trying to bash.

Is it hard to stay calm and discuss things properly, without being offensive or feeling offended when no offense was there?

I don't remember the story, but right now, it seems like you're posting with your old account, and I certainly didn't unban you, so it could've only been a temporary ban.
And even those usually don't happen because of ONE post but because of a series of posts with warnings before the ban.

If you want me to take a look at that, please send me the details about that (links to the mentioned posts, etc.) and I'll take a look at them.

I'm NOT feeling offended in any way. You've been more than amiable. I was conversing with someone else about a certain Moderator. NOT YOU. I agree that this isn't constructive in the long term - I'll move on. I'm just surprised that this computer still isn't ready, but I'll wait. It will give me something to complain about.

THAT is a tempting offer - for real. I'll get back to you on that.

Ignore this guy (ps: an image scaling feature would be nice)

I paid some money a year and a half ago - it's astounding that this computer isn't finished.

Not really, it is a small scale niche project with limited funding and a relatively inexperienced team. It is not possible to try much in parallel because of that.
When I preordered the Pyra, I knew it would probably take another three years or so for it to come to market (the experience with the Pandora was not much different).

Yeah it can be a bit frustrating at times, but mostly because I still really, really want it. So I will patiently wait and yearn for the day that the Pyra arrives at my doorstep.

Umm... no. You were conversing with ALL of us.

This thread that you are posting to is the current top post/item in the Pyra News public thread. It is, quite literally, the go to point for everyone on this board to go find out what the current project status is.

If you want to talk to an individual member, click on, 'Inbox' at the top of the page. In there you can 'Start a New Conversation' and select who you would like to converse with directly.

Just to be clear:
You complained about the project status and how you have been treated in the most public way possible.
You were offered a refund by the project creator and given the suggestion to consider introspection into how you interact with others.
You first accepted the idea of getting a refund and moving on.
You then decided to stick around and start insulting the project creator, a moderator and slighting the community in the most public way possible.
The project creator and ultimate owner/moderator of these boards offered to review the moderator incident that you are complaining about if you would simply send supporting information to him in a 1:1 conversation. That is completely reasonable.

The project creator/owner and the collective community just bent over backwards to accommodate you. The proper response at this point is, "Thank you."

Getting back to the subject, I think most of us Pyra pre-orderers want to be able use the device with each CPU @1.5GHz at full load during a long period.
I really don't wan't to hear that "even at 1.00GHz it will be more powerful than the Pandora".
Also, like it or not, newer CPUs will still produce heat, because better 3D, more cores etc.
So it's the right time to include that inside->outside heat spreader that should have been engineered from the beginning. And also add to this case modification the possibility of a micro-fan for future CPUs.
I don't want to have to do it myself for such a pricey device.

I think it's unrealistic to expect it to run at 1.5 GHz constantly. Mobile chips aren't designed for that.

Yes but did that include a fan? Mobile devices are designed to throttle when you push them hard. I don't want any more delays at this point, the Pyra runs very well. @Askarus has been using one for a while now I believe.

My two devboards are running fine at 1.7GHz. With proper cooling of course.

And that cooling works perfectly fine without a fan and has heatsinks small enough to fit into a case (and don't forget that inside a case the hot air naturally can't move away, so put your devboard into a plastic box as well)?

If there was an easy way to handle this, how come even multibillion dollar smartphones company can't handle this?

Only the unreasonable ones who don't understand how modern mobile CPU/SoC systems work (optimized for peak/valley load processing not always pegged).

I really don't wan't to hear that "even at 1.00GHz it will be more powerful than the Pandora".
How is the truth not relevant?

Also, like it or not, newer CPUs will still produce heat, because better 3D, more cores etc.
All CPUs generate heat. CPU manufacturers take the exact same CPU and over/under clock them to fit specific thermal envelopes all the time. The Pyra, and pretty much every other device designed to be able to operate while pocketed, has a pretty low thermal envelope. However, newer CPUs with smaller processes (14nm instead of 35nm) use less energy per unit of computing. Future SoC options for the Pyra will likely have the same or potentially less power requirements and thus produce less heat.

However, this doesn't preclude using a higher max W and max TDP processor - so long as everyone understands that it will only be able to sustain those rates for short bursts.

So it's the right time to include that inside->outside heat spreader that should have been engineered from the beginning. And also add to this case modification the possibility of a micro-fan for future CPUs.

I agree that some consideration should be given toward a radiator - i.e. a heat shedding component. But, that should be a consideration for a future product revision or add-on and not the current Pyra.

I have shared many ideas around this over the last several years. The shortest path to being able to really shed heat is to replace the lower plastics (battery level surrounding piece) with a milled aluminum piece. This would radiate and conduct to the surrounding air AND the user's hands - making it liquid cooled. The single piece of milled aluminum to replace that piece of plastics would cost $000s to develop and would need to add charges on the order of $75-$150 per unit.

Short of that would be to run a sheet of aluminum through between the SoC board and main board, under the SDXC slots and fill in the right half of the case front with folds/ribs for added surface area to act as a a convection radiator. Since this could be made out of stamped & folded sheet aluminum, it would not be nearly as expensive. It would still require a case mold revision - and as such should not be considered at this time.

ED's placement of a heat capacitor/sink in the case void under the USB ports intrigues me for possible future user modifications. I could see potential to cut out a section of the case plastics, create a mold negative, create a clay mold then pour a solid silver heat sink with radiator ribs that fits into the same space plus gets exposed to the air. (If you're going to dream... it would take ~$150 in silver metal. Why silver? It has the highest thermal conductivity short of truly exotic and expensive stuff.) It could also be done using aluminum which would be nearly as good or copper if you have access to an oxygen free mold pour environment or lead if you don't care about health & safety. The point here is that from the placement of EDs heat sinks/capacitors, there is nothing but a thin plastic wall between that spot and the outside. If the chunk of metal can fill that void entirely, it wouldn't take much to cut some windows to expose that metal to the outside world. But - that is a customization for the modifications community for now and doesn't need to happen for Pyras to happen.
