The Caring Corner :)

Seems unlikely if you cleared the infection before travelling. It's just possible I suppose, but only just. Norovirus is out there everywhere in the northern hemisphere currently, and could easily be transmitted by whoever prepared the food, but perhaps you'd already beaten the same brand of virus so were immune.

I wonder if I passed it to them.

How's this for a throwback? My temperature was 96.0 degrees just now. I hadn't really been having the low body temperature problem for a few months now, but I guess it's back.

Could have something to do with the temperature outside being below freezing right now. It's not even December yet though, so I can imagine we're going to have a few worse days for that.

Oh man, I think I've said this before, but my heart rate goes up when I eat. Yesterday it was around 70, because I ran out of groceries and had nothing but decaffeinated coffee Monday and Tuesday. Today I got groceries, then proceeded to eat a box of cookies, a can of Pringles, a bag of salad, a bag of spicy chicken bites, and a tub of ice cream. Now my heart rate is close to 120. And yes, that was sitting down.

Well, yes, your digestive system is made of muscle tissue too, and digesting things isn't free, although it's generally optimised so that you get more energy back pretty quicky via sugars going into your bloodstream. But yeah, I guess that's the reason why you don't feed starving people beef wellington. But yeah to activate those muscles the heart will need to pump blood to your guts to do that work.

My county is now in stage D2, severe drought. Funny, the stages go up to D4. D3 is extreme drought, and stage D4 is exceptional drought. There's a statewide burn ban in effect until further notice, and also a wildfire up at Pilot Mountain.

The digestion is one of the most energy consuming processes there is. It is designed to be inactive for most of the time and to only activate for a few minutes a few times per day. But most people eat meals that cannot be fully digested and stay in the stomach for hours. And in addition to that they refill as soon as their stomach gets empty. This abuse of the body always leads to disease.

@JDTAY my advice is to just only eat easy to digest meals. My favourite easy to digest meals are:
- Watermelon
- Orange juice
- Berries
- Gazpacho

If you need a recipe then just request one. I especially like my orange juice and watermelon recipes.

Watermelon is high on fructose and can cause digestive problems. Just as a warning in case JDTAY also encounters some issues after eating (a lot of nomnom) watermelon.

That's why I always eat in bed.

The test was done with refined fructose which means that there is a good chance that it does not apply to watermelons. Often the digestive system will react completely different to nutrients when it processes them separately than it does when it processes them together. This is how reactors work, and the digestive system is an extremely complex reactor.

Studies ignoring that obvious fact and thus greatly oversimplifying nutrition is one of my main gripes with many studies. Some people even seem to think that eating many bananas and drinking a little bit of Coca Cola are about equally unhealthy because doing any of those gives a lot of of sugar. They have no idea that the sugar in bananas and other fruits digests without problems because it is accompanied with other nutrients which modify the reaction.

While your statement is true, I just looked up a study instead of linking to pages that show watermelon can cause stomachache. That appears to a common thing, linked to the sucrose in watermelon.
There are a lot of studies that over simplify things, so I could even imagine the common problems are caused by something else then sucrose.

Well, I just had a weird experience. It felt like I swallowed something, but I didn't gag, so I just ignored it. Then like a minute later, I started gagging pretty hard. Nothing came up though.
