Update regarding the cases (and some other things)

And some more pics and new infos:

Those shrinking marks you can see will be gone in the final version.
The material is better, but as our case parts have some thin areas, a different one needs to be used (which has a better flow and eliminates the remaining issues they had right now).

The new material should look a lot better (it's from a manufacturer in France, cheers to our french chaps here :)) and there exist different colors as well which we can use (the minimum amount of material we can buy is 25kg) - which is about 100 cases each)
It's probably too complex to assemble the units with different colors from the beginning, but I might sell different colors as full sets if anyone is interested.

Anyway, the produced cases should be 100% perfect physically (and with 50 sets, I can test the tolerances as well) and can assemble all the prototypes.

And here are some more of the pictures:

So what is this new materiel? Is it still some form of polycarbonate?

Also what happens to the excess materiel once it's been cut away from the finished product, can it be re-melted and used to make more parts? (otherwise that seems like a lot of wasted plastic)

Dark anthrazite or black, yes. Clear as well and colors... I don't know yet what good-looking colors they can offer

Yes to transparency!

After holding the transparent Pyra prototype in my hands, I would not want any other colour anymore :~)

How much do 25 kg of transparent material cost (EK = Einkaufspreis, purchase price) more or less?

I did buy a black set of parts so I could replace bits of my Pandora to give it a unique look, so I'm okay with that idea personally.

Unfortunately that was just before my LCD cable broke for the last time, and I foolishly decided to try to repair it myself, resulting in the problem now being unrepairable, so if I do take my Pandora out it just sits in my pocket playing my music, so I don't have it out on show, so now I live with the odd crack and the plain silver case.

Maybe (dark) red, too? I can point to some polls if would help convince you. Or we can have a new one. :p

My top choices are still dark grey and dark red, with clear right behind those of the popular options.

Extreme Green (translucent yellow-green) and translucent black are amongst colours I would like most, however those don't seem popular, and they would probably be difficult to get right. Just imagine combining those case pieces! Of course beige and pink popped up again in this thread, and if they are the right shades I can get behind those.

FWIW, antracite is high grade coal, so in colour terms I assume it's a mid-dark grey. Dark anthracite would be a rather dark grey in my lingo.
Yeah, and the pics we had floating around made it look great, too. Even if we don't get exactly that shade I will still be happy with anything a bit lighter than black. I understand black will probably be easiest, so it will be fine if we get that for our conservative/business(?)/boring color since we might get other options from the beginning.

Poll time?

Yes, usually these days those are collected, shreddered and reused for testruns.

Transparent is a standard material, you can get it in any quantity.
It's just any special or custom material where you have minimum order quantities.

I would like grey colour. But black works too, especially if I can buy other colors later (maybe even mix and match for my own colour scheme) As long as I am not getting a transparent one I'm fine. For me they look horrible and toyishly cheap :p taste in design is subjective I guess.

Some ideas:

1. The translucid case could be red tained.
Explanation: The whole theme of the pyra is obviously red. As the translucid GameBoy that was posted here was purple tained whatever translucid case is produced it could also have some light color to give it some stronger identity.

2. The different colors could be offered in batches of 100. In crowd founding style.
Explanation: There should be a standard color black/grey or red (TBD), but the non standard colors could be offered in batches of 100. Probably just one batch never to be produced after - save some special/aniversary edition. ED could offer 90/95 and retain the rest to make some aditional money in the store. I think that would make the people who got x or y color prouder of the color they got and provide the chance for people to interchange cases for the poupose of altering their pyra color or make some combination of them. It would also create some buz since the first batches would be very sought at.
As allways, like any crowdfunding if there is not enough people interested in z or w color the batch would simply not be made and no money loss for the development team.

These are some ideas, if someone find them helpfull...
