Update regarding the cases (and some other things)

Dark anthrazite or black, yes. Clear as well and colors... I don't know yet what good-looking colors they can offer :)
Maybe (dark) red, too? I can point to some polls if would help convince you. Or we can have a new one. :p

My top choices are still dark grey and dark red, with clear right behind those of the popular options.

Extreme Green (translucent yellow-green) and translucent black are amongst colours I would like most, however those don't seem popular, and they would probably be difficult to get right. Just imagine combining those case pieces! Of course beige and pink popped up again in this thread, and if they are the right shades I can get behind those.

FWIW, antracite is high grade coal, so in colour terms I assume it's a mid-dark grey. Dark anthracite would be a rather dark grey in my lingo.
Yeah, and the pics we had floating around made it look great, too. Even if we don't get exactly that shade I will still be happy with anything a bit lighter than black. I understand black will probably be easiest, so it will be fine if we get that for our conservative/business(?)/boring color since we might get other options from the beginning.

Poll time?

So what is this new materiel? Is it still some form of polycarbonate?

Yes, of course!

Also what happens to the excess materiel once it's been cut away from the finished product, can it be re-melted and used to make more parts? (otherwise that seems like a lot of wasted plastic)

Yes, usually these days those are collected, shreddered and reused for testruns.

How much do 25 kg of transparent material cost (EK = Einkaufspreis, purchase price) more or less?

Transparent is a standard material, you can get it in any quantity.
It's just any special or custom material where you have minimum order quantities.

I would like grey colour. But black works too, especially if I can buy other colors later (maybe even mix and match for my own colour scheme) As long as I am not getting a transparent one I'm fine. For me they look horrible and toyishly cheap :p taste in design is subjective I guess.

Some ideas:

1. The translucid case could be red tained.
Explanation: The whole theme of the pyra is obviously red. As the translucid GameBoy that was posted here was purple tained whatever translucid case is produced it could also have some light color to give it some stronger identity.

2. The different colors could be offered in batches of 100. In crowd founding style.
Explanation: There should be a standard color black/grey or red (TBD), but the non standard colors could be offered in batches of 100. Probably just one batch never to be produced after - save some special/aniversary edition. ED could offer 90/95 and retain the rest to make some aditional money in the store. I think that would make the people who got x or y color prouder of the color they got and provide the chance for people to interchange cases for the poupose of altering their pyra color or make some combination of them. It would also create some buz since the first batches would be very sought at.
As allways, like any crowdfunding if there is not enough people interested in z or w color the batch would simply not be made and no money loss for the development team.

These are some ideas, if someone find them helpfull...

I'd say a month is a bit short, even if you're down to get a prototype. Late birthday pressie for sure I reckon.
If we can have almost any color we want, I would like beige.
You can have any colour you want if you can find 100 people who share that preference. I suspect for beige you might be okay - provided it's a nice beige I might want to join you, at least for a second case.

With respect to your affinity for red, the vast majority of folks seem to prefer something in the grey/black realm or clear like the prototypes. I would be happy with either of these, but when we start getting into colors, then the $600+ dollar Linux portable computer I'm funding starts to feel like a dated toy and I'm not really interested at that point.

ED seems extremely resilient and capable but there have been so many unforeseen bumps for Pyra just like the original Pandora. I'd really rather not complicate the first batch with a ton of different colors and crowd funding processes. That all has to be organized by ED. He has to get samples from the company, put them up for polls, etc.

Grey/black and clear seem like the common sense plan for the first 1000. I'd be ok with either, and if I had to choose, would pick clear.

I wouldn't want a pink one myself. I rather suspect that ED could sell a fair few of them if he had them made though. :)
my daughter loved the pastel pink renders...

What ever the initial color... we can swap out later... so add, i dunno, red nubs on a gray and black box...

I am thinking a black case, with green keyboard glow/backlights and a black/green theme in debian. If I get bored, maybe do a Red/Black or blue/black with the keyboard and theme.

I might enjoy beige as my first or only case just because of what it represents to me (or us). Even better if kids think it is ugly or some stupid ancient device.

It would be a headache for me if I were trying to swap all those keyboard LEDs, plus the secondary labels might be hard to see. Still, I like both green and red for the keyboard.
[doublepost=1494707431,1494707298][/doublepost]I just had a thought: if we get beige cases hipsters might want to get Pyras...

Beige with a brown inner lid, battery cover and stylus!
Or black with dark red inner lid, battery cover and stylus... Or blue and yellow, or.. red and grey, or.... or....or....

I'll buy a 2nd case....

A year or two ago i saw the red update of the pandora on the website and fell in love. So a dark red case would be relly nice.

For a min of 100 at 1050 preoders, it should be possible to offer 4-6 colors
250 black
250 grey
200 clear
150 red
100 green?
100 white?

Or something like this. Time for a new poll?
