The Rise of Pyra - A story about the past 6 months

I assume most of us don't influence the actual production of the Pyra hardware. Some can support the Pyra software and some provide emulators or games. Usually it takes a lot of time to do anything useful there.
So, outside of testing stuff (or waiting for the Pyra) there isn't much to do as support for a regular forum visitor.
Posting 'other' stuff at least provides some feeling of activity on the forum.

Most of us also get older so we have either more or less time to spend with our favorite handhelds.

My Pandora is not dead and it still does pretty much exactly what I want from such a device. Next to price and availability that is also the reason why I didn't pre-order a Pyra.

I do appreciate that the forum is still around for GP32/GP2X/Wiz/Caanoo/Pandora/Pyra users even without a lot of activity. It contains a ton of great info and history. Usually questions are still answered, so I think there's a lot of lurking going on.

ED put a lot of valuable time and effort into Pandora/Pyra but that's not where he generates his income from. It is clearly not the center of his attention anymore like in the Pandora days or in the Pyra beginning.

If I was on a Pyra pre-order list I would ask for a refund thb. Not to bankrupt ED or mean him any harm, but if there are no activities anyore and lack of progress and he basically moved on why bother. Gives you more peace of mind.

It even could be what ED prefers if the costs of creating a device are time consuming and higher than the profit.

Do you know how many Vietnamese children were worked to death nobly sacrificed themselves so that those posts could live? Show them some respect please.

:p
at a guess between the "what have you bought" and " what music are you listening to" threads 50% of the posts on this forum are yours... lol

Meh, if I get one it would be amazing, but if not I've managed close to 10 years without the money at this point...
Well, if we count the preorder payment as a half-paid unfulfilled order, then it's like even if you don't need the money, you could think it's yours.
But it sounds a little unjust, since it feels more like a case of bad luck than really incompetence or (even less, more certainly the contrary) any dishonesty.
So I could say it's not ED's fault, but it's not mine either, and it's still my money, so I could ask it back.

BUT!

What about the service provided during all these years, the preorder payment is not so much for a lifelong subscription to the forum and all...
People pay generously for the privilege to talk to others (usually with content and personal data, more than with money).

I mean, the Vietnamiese children likely get their pay from elsewhere, but there's still server maintenance, bandwidth, etc. that I assume ED pays for or provides himself.

In the end I feel more inclined to reclaim the removing of third party cookies than the whole of my preorder payment...

It's best to not look too closely into that. :)
But they do get paid some money, hopefully ?
I mean, nowadays many people are paid only with "visibility" or such crap, but I'm assuming this is not the case, because if it was "visibility" you wouldn't say it's best not to look into.
