Release SuperZaxxon - Beta 4 released

I have a airlink nano wifi that works fine in old kernel but not in the new kernel. using superzaxxon 1.5b4. Not sure if this is known or tried by anyone else. Will post dmesg later if needed.

My problem is just with the wierdness of the built-in wifi

Atleast it does not lock the pandora up anymore but I would like the connectivity back and wonder why SSH wont work. Something broke when I set dropbear to load at boot. Reflashing now and will see what happens. It is a great way to learn Linux (for me at least).

I have never had a problem with the wifi. It has literally only ever disconnected at random twice and both times it was fixed by disabling and re enabling it. There was a problem with dropping a download when I would download anything bigger than a megabyte big but im pretty sure thats a bandwidth problem because i pretty much exclusively use public wifi (another perk that the pandoras size has for me).. in any case this is far less of a problem on the new kernel and doesnt happen as often except where bandwidth is likely the culprit. The pandora is currently my only electronic device. Except for my nookcolor, of course. I'm on my pandora now.

OK, so, reflashed and still have wifi issues.

But I notiuced also that activating usb now only displays 1 USB port. I used a script to turn on and off usb under beta 3 and it always showed 2 USB ports when on (the USB 1 and USB 2). But now I only see the Bus 001 USB 2 Hub. Is this right? Since the USB 1 port (the one used for charging) was always on anyway, is it simply not listed anymore?

And I now see that the backlight setting is not kept after coming out of standby (I have seen that one listed here)!

Anyone having a problem in getting MiniTube 1.7 to work under 3.2? It will load the video, but does not play it. Under 2.67 everything runs great....

on mine it works fine...

although I'm having a small issue with the pandora in mass storage mode, when I have it like that for a while, no problems but when I press ok to go back to normal it freezes up and I have to do a soft reset.... anyone else having the same issue?

up to now I've got two lock-up situations:

1) When setting the date and time from the xfce settings (as soon as I press Ok)

2) When I enable usb host and plug in my 3G stick

The Panda locks-up like clockwork with these two actions, which it does not do with 2.6.27. Other than these, the working hibernate is a godsend and outweighs any other issue/s.

And yeah, no issues at all with wifi. Strange that we all have dissimilar problems. Could it be that sometimes we create these problems ourselves when we start tweaking the environment to suit our tastes after the install? After all, most Pandas are from the first run with the only differences being probably in the LCD cable type, L/R buttons and other stuff non-related to these issues.

Yeah do 'lsmod' on the old kernel, dmesg on both new and old and post the output somewhere.

In Beta 4 I'm getting occasional lockups of the whole OS when activating WIFI.
Yup, several people have reported that (myself included)--no word from the devs yet on what they think might be causing it.
Never managed to reproduce it, and nobody described how to reproduce it reliably.

The new kernel is in /lib/boot/ you should point (auto)boot.txt to it. Latest SD installer is supposed to use later kernel now, but I haven't verified that.
Done. Just added /lib/boot/ in front of uImage in autoboot.txt and now the new kernel boot. Great, thanks.

Btw, is there any chance that the SD installer could use the fullflash image for installation?

(For thousands of pandoras out there that could be a significant server load reduction)

on the SD in /boot correct? Because obviously the uimage on the root of the SD card (fat partition is the 3.2 kernel).

[EDIT] I was wrong, there is no /boot on the SD card ext partition. So where do I look for the 2.6 kernel?

The fat partition will be mounted into /boot on the starting system. The place where uImage is is the right place for another kernel.

The SD installer labels the partition PANDORABOOT.

Now i read all pages of the beta thread. And after two months days playing with my rebirth SuperZaxxon Beta 3 Pandora i'm on Beta 4 now.

The download trouble still exist. First try with Fx 8.x and "save as..." on the link failed with an incomplete download of 948kb. Second try with direct click on the link worked fine then.

I had wifi/network trouble. With Beta 3 my USB network dongle was detected, Beta 4 not. I tried to find the module mcs* successfully, but with this:

Code:
77:~$ sudo find / -iname mcs*

/lib/modules/3.2.16-00257-g22711aa/kernel/drivers/net/usb/mcs7830.ko

/lib/modules/2.6.27.57-omap1/kernel/drivers/net/usb/mcs7830.ko

/usr/share/vim/vim72/compiler/mcs.vim

find: ftsfind.c:477: consider_visiting: Assertion `ent->fts_info ==

11 || state.type != 0' failed.

Aborted

My wifi problem was a security one first, somehow the settings of my router set to 802.x auth, wtf?? Now wifi connects, dhclient got the correct settings, default route and localnet route is ok according to "route". I can ping -c 1 heise.de and others. But PNDstore and PNDmanager failed to update, pndstore shows the list of installed apps only, pndmanager tried to sync with rotating arrow for 30minutes until i killed it. Same for link, the webbrowser. No url is found or loaded.

Meanwhile i managed to boot B4 from SD. Strange. While B4 from NAND didn't work with wifi the B4 from SD does? I installed codecpack manually after i found that pndstore is working now. Link found URLs now. Maybe there was another different config thing i didn't noticed.

Ups. Added 100 workspaces by mistake. I can see 24 in the bottom bar, but now everything is very slow and the number is changing slowly between 34-48. After 15minutes it didn't stop, i couldn't open the menu anymore, it closes immediately, i did a hard reset. The menu was accessable after and it was possible to reset to 2 workplaces.

If it's possible to restrict the max number of workplaces i recommend to set them to 20 or 30.

The USB dongle isn't detected if connected after system start up. lsusb shows no results, empty list. In lsmod i don't recognize any usb modules.

I will go to Zaxxon on the NAND and continue to play with SuperZaxxon Betas from SD.

Any cautions for reverting to an older Firmware?

Well, no-one else had any ideas and I kept ploughing along. Worst can happen is reflash again eh?

So, I learned something else this morning.

Check you routers men!

The pandora is the first wifi I have had that did NOT like TKIP one bit. Let us not argue about AES vs TKIP. Frankly I have had that router sitting non-stop for a number of years and never bothered.

So, I switch it to AES and WHAMO I connect quite well. And in comparing DD-WRT versus Tomato. both routers are WRT54GLs with differing firmware and piggy-backed.

du-du-du-dum!

As long as the downloads are not large (I have read that there is still a time-out issue somewhere?)

Well now I can browse again (so the Pandora This one at least) only wants AES. Fine! I am going to do a few more resumes on this 350MB file and see how it continues. Using gFtp and resume. Anyone else getting similar, worse, or better averages?

I connected first; downloaded 35MB, lost connection (total downloaded~35MB)

reconnected next; resume to 28MB, lost connection (total downloaded~63MB)

reconnected next; resume to 23MB, lost connection (total downloaded~86MB)

reconnected next; resume to 21MB, lost connection (total downloaded~107MB)

reconnected next; resume to 27MB, lost connection (total downloaded~134MB)

reconnected next; resume to 14MB, lost connection (total downloaded~148MB)

reconnected next; resume to 40MB, lost connection (total downloaded~188MB)

At least if I keep it to webpages, email, and perhaps a small podcast; then I am fine now.

AES, not just a superstore anymore!

That's usually the first thing that's suggested. :p

Change channels, (temporarily) disable security, look for any router specific "enhancements" that can be turned off.

Sorry, you should have been told about these things too.

Ouch, those are terrible :(

I have never had problems downloading large files. I downloaded SZB3 over a wifi tethered 3G connection in about 20 minutes or so in one go. I wish I could help, but I've tried to diagnose other people's problems as well and without being able to reproduce the problem locally I don't even know where to begin.

Same here. The dongle has to be connected while the Pandora is starting up before it can be recongnized...

honestly, I Had checked everything else. This was simply NOT the thing I expected.

As I said, I have used them for a long time and many different computers. this was a first. so there is some setting on either the router or pandora that are NOT getting along. AES setting at least gave me email and browsing back! Larger files? Dunno. Never had this happen and my notebooks are not having it happen now.

Not in XP, Debian, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, either. I am simply at a loss here!

heh, at least I can browse the forums again.

Have you tried eliminating other Wifi sources? I'm wondering there could be interference from other sources.

yeah there's a real possibility. I assume the Pandora's wifi is real low? I will try chaging the channels again too. But TKIP was the real blocker up to now!

It is a school so that there are a LOT of RF flying around. I changed the AP to a different channel and WHAMO again!

So, AES is a must (at least for me) and watch the AP frequencies.

100MB, 200MB,300MB, Success!

Make that twice - Second 350MB file transferred.

So I learn a bit more about TI's limitations on this particular wifi chip?

And I have no control over public APs.

Have you tried disabling power saving features? In a terminal type "sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off".

I may not need it now, But a real Thanks. I am saving that just in case! At least for stubborn APs.

I did more online today and saw how much faster the battery drains with WIFI on but it was fun. Router definitely Must be AES for me and the new channel helps the interference issues.

I do save these notes! Especially since I have to reconfigure everything when I upgrade! Not all my changes are limited to Home!
