Shortest newspost ever... for now!

Was once the shortest post, but surely now a contender for the longest. Thank you so much @EvilDragon for furnishing is with so much detail, it is very much appreciated.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what is finally produced, and I'm sure either company _could_ produce some fantastic cases :)

I read this on Tapatalk so for me the Newspost was short
(If they didn’t deliver until Friday, the lost.. )

But whit a whole web browser it’s makes much more sense

good lord, i can't wait until industrial-style 3D printers exist that deliver the same quality as injection systems o_O
fingers crossed that the new awesome material is as mind blowing as it seems to be (and i'm still hoping for a "case vs. ED with a hammer" video!) :)

@ED, is it possible for the other mould company to use the same material from France that Formaction ordered?. So if the glass infused material is not suitable, then they could use the same material Formaction currently plans to use.

From the sounds of these super materials it'll be a while until we can 3d print stuff at decent resolutions and end up with parts that are as durable.

I'm not sure when ED's planning to come back from Greece, but it's sounding like it might be worth his while to delay coming back if he can.

Thanks ED for this exciting live news format! Also kudos for your patience and dedication, I know I would hate to have to negotiate anything in these conditions.

Of course. Anyone can buy the material. So if the samples work out fine but FormAction would delay the production, we could easily move the molds.
That's a bit unlikely though, as the production is actually where FormAction will start to EARN some money... so once everything is fixed and done, there wouldn't be a proper reason for them to delay.

I'm leaving Wednesday 5.30pm.

BTW: Here is the video where I fight versus the fibre-glass enstrengthened plastic...

Thanks for the video. Are both those plastics polycarbonate? I guess it might be the way that tab shattered off - something like ABS would probably fail plastically first (thin and stretch). And I guess either way if you can't break that little reinforced tab off with one hand, it's plenty tough enough whatever it is.

Whether it's worth moving the moulds for, for the first batch depends still. It would be nice to have, but if form action can make normal polycarbonate parts well, it might be worth sticking with them for one run at least. And of course it depends if it's compatible with the complex pyra parts too.

TL;DR: I think your current plan sounds logical, even if I wouldn't be so nice or trusting. Do what you think is best. Thanks for the pic and video! :D

Give FormAction a final chance* (although I feel they have had more than enough) to get their shit together. Make sure the molds are finished, or modified to the state they should be, and take a look at the samples they make, if they can manage that. Any screw ups or new excuses, move them if the new company shows that they can do cases like this, or if you trust their word that they can do it right.

I guess these companies are starting to see/feel the flames**. Hopefully you don't have to show them your full EvilDragon nature today to get things moving. Just try not to fly off in frustration and cause earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Make sure to keep coffee nearby so you don't decide to burn down** any buildings (but grab the gold if you do). :p

I guess the pic and video will distract me and calm me for a bit...but no more chances after this week.

*I am totally for supporting the little guys, but not when they continuously fail to come through, and only have excuses to offer. This could easily drag the Pyra production down with it, which it would have if the 4GB version hadn't been offered our was not very popular. I know they are totally different things, but ED also runs a business, so it isn't unreasonable for him to work with a company that has an attitude that matches his own...by actually doing their job!

**ED is one of those flying fire breathing dragons, right?

no hammer in the video :( but whoa, that’s one robust cartridge piece :D these tiny parts usually break off if you just think about touching them

Well, I usually don't carry hammers around with me - and I doubt I could've taken it with me on the plane.
But fear not, I will penetrate.it more when I come back home.

Are there some cases without paint?
If they are all painted, there is there a high possibility that they try to hide something.

I don't want a Pyra case where color rubs off that easy like on my *new* 3DS

Do you mean the SNES cases? They are both unpainted.
Or do you mean the Pyra ones? These are the same we already have, just some more colored ones they made.
For the next revision, we're waiting for the material :)

I was writing about the Pyra ones.
Lets hope they turn out good with the new model.
It would be bad if they goofed up something with the molds with prevent them from make good parts.

That's not really possible.
You need to tweak the machine during production (to heat up specific parts of the molds), but that has nothing to do with the molds itself.
They can't be goofed up :)

ED said a coating not paint. the non scratch coating is sprayed into the mold just before the plastic is injected. it becomes part of the plastic . it doesnt wear or rub off.
