Psx4gp2x Beta Testers Thread

i prefer playing 30 minutes (out of about 5-6hours) shorter but with 50fps over playing 30 minutes longer at 30fps.

I'm pretty sure that when overclocking to an extreme that the power drain goes up in an exponential manner due to the increased resistance the heat creates. The more you overclock the bigger the increased in power consumption is per extra mhz, overclocking at this scale would cause dramatic reductions in battery life.

arm chips take 1ma per mhz, with a higher voltage a bit more, but nothing realy "exponential", arm chips dont heat up.

Just think about why a battery stops working. It's not because it is empty... it's because the battery cannot sustain the volts required.

there are apps available to measure the battery voltage. All you have to do see buy how much the modification increases the voltage requirement and then determine how long it takes for your GP2x to drain them to that level.

Ofcourse this speeds up after you overclock higher then you tested before.

Still talking about potentially doubling or tripling the current (as well as around a 20% increase in voltage). The 920T core is only 11mmsq, it doesn't take a huge amount of energy to heat it up.

even trippeling of the cpu power usage wouldnt even get near the power used for the tft or the video hardware.

Aaaaaaaah, no, no, no. Just no

"It's not because it is empty... it's because the battery cannot sustain the amperage required."

If you said the GP2X stops working because the voltage is too low, that is correct.

But the battery stops supplying the voltage because it cannot sustain the amperage.

Remember how Alkalines can't supply the amperage to run the GP2X, but take them out and their voltage rebounds back up in a few minutes?

This on the other hand is a good idea to find out if your battery is still supplying enough voltage, it is not the best way to measure amps, but it will do if you can't get an Ammeter.

You would want to connect the ammeter in Series with the batteries and use the 10Amp socket to be safe (I got a $5 one with a backlight from Harbor Freight Tools)

that means that the used energy by the gp2x is the product of voltage and amperege. every minute you play the battery loose a part of its capazity (for instance 2300mAh) ICs of the gp2x sucks amps till the voltage brakes down. the battery is empty. a battery with 1,5V plays no longer that a akku with 1,2V because its higher capacity. amperege is how much energy flows in time to the ICs, voltage is only a difference between two potentials (between + and - ; or + and more +) its quasi the speed of "amperegeflow". in this case you have to use akkus with a high capacity (2300mAh = 2,3A for one our). they have do offer a amperage for a longer time without a voltage breakdown.

Fishbong is right. if he found the right stepdownconverter and know what is the highest possible corevoltage. he could implement parallel a third resistor to increase the corvoltage. so its easy to make it switchable (power or standard). :D who test it out? i´m interested in the results of this tests. :)

Yes,
good old ivy watts! :)
and above: good old ohm! WATT is his first name?? :)

I think most of gp2x-owners want to play psx-games without a mod. wich framerates are really possible on a standard gp2x with frameskip2 and without sound??

Yeah i tried TV Fixer, but if i use it, everytime it syncronizes the screen (i set 10 secs), the picture is as double as big as before, and i see only the upper left quarter. I´m using FW 2.0, oh, maybe i need a new version of TV fixer? i noticed mine is old... :)
Hi
i have just found that the TV-Out Fixer version on gp2x archives is not the latest. A few days after the coding competition i released a new version (v0.3b2) which i thought that fixed the problem with GP2X main menu and NTSC. You can download it from GP32Spain (http://gp32spain.com/foros/downloads.php?do=file&id=479) or, if there is any place that i can upload it, you can tell me so.
If this version does not fix the NTSC problem for you, please contact me via PM, and i will try again to fix it for the main GP2X Menu on NTSC mode.

Regards

kounch

So, if my max OC is at 249, is it that much slower?

nah, its a very little difference, :)
