Yeah, but he needs to have extra in case of dead chips, RMAs, etc.ED's stated several times the MOQ for the cell modules is 500 each
I really like the third party option, I don't see why it's not considered more. I'd be willing to pay 10 or 20 euros more if it means I get one.@stevenc99 are you recommending that US units be manufactured and shipped after EU and standard ones, or to keep preorders open until enough total units have been preordered? It sounds like you meant the former. I don't like the sound of either, but waiting, at least for US mobile buyers, seems like the only decent option (other than buying modules in a smaller quantity through a third party).
That's a good point, I'll be quiet about it now.it's nice to know we have options, but let the pre-orders play out before we assume we have to scrap or modify US 4G. it may make people less apt to purchase it, if they hear this kind of talk.

It wouldn't be 10 or 20 more. If he needs to pay the whole thing upfront he'd need about 40000 EUR, divided by the 100 people ordered, making 400 EUR each, or about 300 EUR extra we'd have to pay to get it fulfilled. Even if it's spread over all customers (which I don't think is fair and shouldn't be done) that'd still be 30 EUR assuming 1000 sales in this batch.I'd be willing to pay 10 or 20 euros more if it means I get one.
How about giving the US 4G users the option to put the full cost of the device upfront instead of just a down payment? That's an extra 225 EUR per person right there if he needs the funds.
Not helping much since I guess the real problem are the final and not the initial costs. How about giving the US 4G users the option to put the full cost of the device upfront instead of just a down payment? That's an extra 225 EUR per person right there if he needs the funds.
I don't think that'll be a problem, unless there actually is a problem, like it turns out they won't actually work reasonably well on any network.Yeah, but do you see a problem with selling 500 US units within a Year? Perhaps I'm also too optimistic.
Yes, that would be bad. Probably a bit expensive for just GPS and sensors.I don't think that'll be a problem, unless there actually is a problem, like it turns out they won't actually work reasonably well on any network.
I was referring to the markup from a reseller. It wouldn't be 10 or 20 more. Fortunately it looks like he doesn't have to pay for everything up front, just has to sell them out in a year or however long, which given the current numbers (as low as they are) seems totally doable, assuming nothing catastrophic happens to review units.
Well that's a huge load off my mind!ED can commit to buying 500+ EU and 500 US chips without paying for all of them up-front:

So it seems the first batch of Pyras can be a mix of EU and US in any ratio. And hopefully all 500 US units will eventually sell, to make the money back.
I went for the highest standard one. I was going to do the 4G model but I wouldn't ever use it or sign up for a contract. Oh well. If I ever decide to use internet anywhere for it, I will just get one of the usbs that allow that with a monthly subscription, but I probably wouldn't.Did you go for the standard or 4G one?
