Is The Pandora Vaporware?

Alright this topic finally got some unbiased replies. No i'm not a troll, I just want to hear everyone opinion about the slow progress of this device that has happened to others in the past and turned into "vaporware" ie never produced/put out for sale/ gave up on.

You sound like a troll cause your seem to miss the cold hard fact that all the parts are making their way to be assembled.

If you believe the Pandora can be classified as vaporware, then so must StarCraft 2. They were both announced at about they same time, they're both currently "finished", in "beta", just waiting for the final bits to come together so they can "assemble" and ship.

Sorry but when you join a project's forum and call it a scam in your very first message it defines you as a certified troll so you might as well just get out of denial, put it on and wear it proudly.

Well if it isnt vapourware, it should be, because the specs and features announced years ago seemed decent at the time, but the device seems pathetic now compared to the top end smart phones.

No 3g just isnt any good for a mobile device in this day and age imho.

Enjoy your time pecking and waving your iphone/n900 around, and seriously when does the pandora get compared to phones simply cause they have the same/similar chips.
Your smart phones have crap for controls, better wait until they catch up ;-)

Since the topic of your avatar was raised briefly somewhere back there, I am suddenly curious. What does the subtext say?

Jeez what a bunch of raged and defensive members. I didn't sign up to troll you, i wanted to ask the question that obviously no one else here asked. You then give me a wall of text on how i'm a sociopath? Nice community you have here.
Look mate!!! A small number of people have already received their Pandoras, so the answer is, NO! Pandora is not Vaporware!!!

Do pardon me, but personally I just cannot see a benefit to in-built 3G in a device that is not a mobile telephone. All I can imagine it doing would be adding extra cost, sapping battery life, and taking up unnecessary space, so I'm rather happy to not have to put up with it*. :p

*I don't want or own a mobile telephone, either - I never have and I never will. I have less than zero interest in these devices or their specifications, as they are completely useless to me. Why, exactly, should the device that people like myself want, be denied a right to exist because some people have mobile telephones that they want? :p It strikes me as a bit odd, I guess.

"Furthermore, in a group that has become sensitized to trolling — where the rate of deception is high — many honestly naïve questions may be quickly rejected as trollings. This can be quite off-putting to the new user who upon venturing a first posting is immediately bombarded with angry accusations."

Indeed...but you have to understand...if you start a topic such as this one expect to get called all sorts of names, get flamed, etc. because at the end of the day you're looking for positive and negative responses...bottom line is...You're looking for...

A REACTION!!!

a man or gherkin. (just a guess)

Yarkle, read up a little before having an ill informed pop. Look for a post from Gruso and check out his signature, or have a peruse of the pandorapess site.

thats what you get, and i say thats plain trolling.

if he didnt want to troll, then he could have asked, "hey i have interest in the proyect, but im afraid it to be a scam/vapourware."

I can hardly see my iPhones screen with these beer goggles and after a bank holiday away from here, I just read about a thousand pages on that MAY 4th thread and it took my about an hour, gone forever, so it better not bl00dy evaporate like the last hours did lol ;) yeeeaaah

You're right. A positive reaction would be nice, but no one has done anything to warrant that kind of response. Everyone would love to hold their mobile gadget and possibly show it off, but you don't know anyone currently using one. This looks just like this, except that other people's money is at stake. And don't even miss the fact that people who told all their friends about it are being shamed. People seem to be disappearing from the forums and new people are appearing all the time wondering what is happening with this project. I don't want people around me to even know this project exists out of fear.

Sure it was a good idea and had potential, but this thing has been in porudction for years now. I've been keeping up with the status since september of 2009 and nothing significant has happened towards shipping them out to people. If you keep waiting; the hardware is going to be obsolete and not worth $300+. They already have peoples money from pre orders. And if you have ever been scammed by someone on ebay or some other form of buying from the internet; you would know that the scammer makes up lies and excuses everytime you contact him. Which is basically whats happening on the Pandora's website. Every blog post explains something that went wrong or something stunting the progress of shipping these things out. I think the Pandora team got in too deep with this idea and ran out of money or people to finish it and thus the project will dissapear and never happen. Thoughts?

The problem with your post is that if you're not just a troll, you're obviously not very bright. I say this for two reasons. First, the idea that you would ask such a question at all is a sign of unintelligence. It is either vaporware (in the sense that, someone tries to produce something, but in the end, the product is never released) or it's a scam. Your question confuses the two issues. If Open Pandora is actively trying to produce something but it never surfaces, then it is vaporware; if they are not and are merely stringing people along with the intention of deceiving them, it is a scam.

Secondly, regardless of which question you mean to ask (although it's clear that you lack the insight to realize that they are two different questions), the idea that you would ask whatever your question actually is to the active posters on the forum of the device that you are asking about is completely moronic.

IMO.
