well i only heard about it on armor studios what can it do? seeing alot of games for it is worth paying nearly $200 bucks to get it? :(
1) With the GP2X you can watch videos, listen to music, look at photos, read eBooks, play emulated/ported/homebrew games...just to name the basics.

2) Absolutely, best $200 spent ever! $200 may sound like quite a bit of money, but 98% of the games for the GP2X are absolutely free!

I just spent my $200 on it too.

Play-Asia seems to be out of carrying cases and say they will only ship the unit in a month :( I e-mailed them about changing the order, but no reply yet. Let's see if their customer support is any good.

I was sort of nervious at first peeling off $200.00 for my unit. But I soon forgot all about it once I was up and playing. I then felt like I owned them some money.

I just realised that the second joystick they sent is the improved one that everyone rattled on about. Admittedly trying to play the likes of doom was difficult with the original.

Is there anyway to change the Lineup of the joystick? what I mean is the gp2x logo is slanted, and I can get the gold pin to move so that it will be lined up properly. Is this something I will just have to live with?

also the replacement pad seems very loose and can come off easily, I dont want to put too much force down on it but I cant get it to go down any further

Play-Asia customer support is great. My GP2X's been shipped out already. I'm hoping to get it by the end of the week.
Counter Point
While their initial shipping speed is great, their "customer support" is a question mark. I was shipped a faulty unit a couple of weeks ago. When I filled out their online form to inform them, it started a string of back-and-forth emails where they had me test something I had already done.

Because they're on the other side of the planet, there was a 24 hour delay in the conversation. After nearly a week, they gave me permission to ship it back, letting me know that they would test it thoroughly before deciding on whether to let me have a new one or to ship my old one back to me (and charging me the shipping).

I mailed it back to them (using my own $13) a week ago and have heard nothing. I have confidence that eventually they will ship back something to me, and I can only pray that won't ship me back my clearly broken unit.

We forget how spoiled we are by US consumer protection, where most immediate returns are "no questions asked"

I used a credit card for my purchase, so across the planet or not I will get my money back if they start screwing around. The only thing I would be wasting is my time which is of course unfortunate, but I'm hoping it won't get to that.

Well, UPS just delivered my brand spankin' new GP2X and I had a chance to poke around it a bit.

The first impressions are good. The included USB cable (you guessed it) was defective but luckily I had a spare on-hand. It recognized my 2GB A-Data SD card with no issues and I was up and playing SEGA games in no-time :)

I overclocked the unit to 250Mhz and it seems very stable, perhaps I'll push that up a bit. The screen doesn't seem as sharp and I can't find any controls to correct that. The "LCD Adjustments" option in the settings doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. The opening near the headphone jack is too small; I really have to force the plug of my E3c to be fully inserted and I worry if that might cause a problem down the road.

I bought some 2500mAh AA rechargeables but apparently my charger is dead, so I have to stick to regular AAs (about 30 min of gameplay) until I get a new one. Good thing I bought the AC adaptor or else I'd run out of batteries :)

Alright. I got mine. $300AU for the thing and an adapter and carry case from gp2x.net.au. It looks pretty sweet. I'll throw some stuff on my SD later and check out some emulators.

Kthxbi.

I just got mine as well.

Glee! :D

(although the video players suck and freeze all the time - does anyone know if this is being worked on?)

WHOOOO HOOOOO!
After almost 2 weeks of hell, and a cash expenditure of $472 canadian, my GP2x FINALLY GOT HERE!

Played E.V.O. for hours, then played some Paladins quest, and now i'm broadsiding the british in Pirates gold! W00T TO THE CORE!

I mailed it back to them (using my own $13) a week ago and have heard nothing. I have confidence that eventually they will ship back something to me, and I can only pray that won't ship me back my clearly broken unit.

To follow up, Play-Asia finally emailed me to say that they received my broken unit, two full weeks after I shipped it (USPS said it would take 3-4 days). And NOW they're going to start the testing part, which will take another two weeks. And again, they may end up shipping my old unit back to me (at my expense) based upon their testing (which would be fine if the problem magically goes away). Needless to say I'm incredibly annoyed.

I'm not going to say "don't buy from play-asia" because it seems that they do a great job when there are no problems. But it may be worth it to buy from company that has a more customer-friendly return/exchange policy in the event you happen to get a dog, like I did.

I've got mine this morning from GP2X.co.uk.
It's more expensive than buying rom play-asia but, hey, it's with me in 24hours.
I've got some GP batteries charged up last night. I tested it for a bit (Im working) and will try to play some emu this evening.

It is very light, seems as if it's empty inside and I've received a fake product lol.

If I want to play emu games, can I use roms for pc emu? (say mame or sens)

gp32_console

I want a chm reader, perhaps I could write one in the future...

yes

Thanks
I think i'll follow my emu question in another thread.
I just dont understand when some gp2xers say that some roms are supported by certain emulator and some aint (so are most of the roms supported or only listed ones). I'll give it a try and see if i can play mario and sonic, thanks

Yea, but this thing is cool! Im waiting for my protection screen to arrive from play-asia.
I have downloaded a few apps and waiting for my clock to tick to 5pm!
