Firmware Is Out

We have an old version of mplayer already (called gplayer) which I'm working with at the moment, and the only bits of DivX stuff in there is telling the decoder hardware that it's using DivX. Everything else is in FFMpeg and other assorted libraries.

I was wondering if updating uboot would shave off some time. I've clocked the time as 10 Seconds from switching on to the green boot screen (actual booting part) what times do people with the updated uboot get?

Well, that's retarded... my low-battery light came on while testing the new version of FFPlay (hardware decoding, yay) ON A PSU.

Well, that was painless! Just updated from 1.0 to the released 1.4 firmware using Robsters beta updater, working perfectly!

Have you got a link for the updater? I can't find it...

Just downloaded it. Do I copy the three files (gp2xkernel.img, gp2xpatch-1.4.0.gpu, and gp2xpatch-1.4.0.tar.gz) to my SD card. Turn on the GP2X, goto the Utility menu, select the gp2xpatch-1.4.0.gpu file?

Do I need to extract the files inside gp2xpatch-1.4.0.tar.gz to my SD card, or just copy that file along with the other two into the root?

Thanks,

just copy it :)

Thanks! GOt it up and running. I can't tell much of a difference yet, other than the splash screen has the new version number and the net LCD tool on the settings. My battery light is still off. Does it only come on when power is running low?

EDIT: Never mind about the battery, just reread the notes.

Well I updated my firmware from 1.2.0 "factory installed" to 1.4.0. And there has been no change in boot time, it still remains to be 39 seconds from the moment I turn it on till I get the menu.

I notice now with the screen I get a white vertical line on the left.

My system seems to be a tad slower overall, going from the main menu to video, audio, utilities, etc.

Not all of my skins work properly, Invader Zim especially, the icons at the bottom right hand of the screen seem to dissapear with that skin. For many of my skins i'm getting a onscreen battery indicator at the top left which gets rather annoying aside of the default one.

Video doesn't seem to be any different aside of the continuing function. Video is still offsync when using VBR mp3 audio at lower bitrates 44khz@48kbit/s mono.

For many of my skins i'm getting a onscreen battery indicator at the top left which gets rather annoying aside of the default one.

I don't know about how long the batteries will last when playing "continous" video but i'll test that out in a bit. What the heck does the LCD tweaker do? it just seems to make my screen flash everytime I move the slider...

Has anyone else run into the same problems as me?

Overall I'm really not digging this update, I haven't seen any note worthy improvements and just notice a slowdown in speed when browsing the menu's. I really hope Gamespark Holdings are watching these forums like a hawk, cuz their firmware doesn't work well on all systems so it seems.

I'm not against gamespark or anything and I still love my system!, but I just wish some things could be ironed out thats all...

Oh and it still shows 1.2.0 on the splash screen :(

Megaframe: It sounds like something went not quite right when flashing - the splash screen should read 1.4.0.

I can't really tell much difference with this patch though, aside from the functionality changes. I do get diagonal lines at some points of the LCD tweaker slider, so it seems to do something at least.

then it didn't actually upgrade the kernel. format your SD card and put the .img file on there all by itself. power on with the SD card in and it'll tell you thats its updating. if it doesn't you'll have to try a different SD card. As of now your system is only patched with the new software but not the new kernel.

I'd say wait until either A: the batteries die or B: a few hours have passed if you are using a plug...
