Gp2x Have Many Bugs!!!!! :(

Hey Batman2. After reading the first 3 Pages of this Thread I wanted to call you a traitor. But I must say: GREAT DECISION NOT TO CANCEL, MAN! I preordered my GP2X, too and I'm glad that I did it. BUGS? HA! If there are any, then we all should help fixing them and add functionality instead of them to our great piece of Hardware. It's Open Source and should be handled like that, too. Find Bug -> Commit or fix it.

Thanks Emu&Co, Hopefully we will have something to be happy about next week when hopefully the units start arriving.

As for the situation on batteries I am thinking of getting this piece of kit, which includes 4 High Capacity rechargable betteries and 1 hour charger.

The battery issue does make me giggle, I'm ignoring it all until someone with proper 2000+mAh batteries come along and says 'It only lasts 2hrs' then I maybe concerned.

I bought one of those cheapy SD handheld video cameras on holiday, I had some Sony branded batteries I bought in a Poundland shop (for anyone that isnt from the UK, It's a shop that sells everything for £1) so I paid £1 for about 8 of these batteries, Put 2 of them into this camera and started recording etc 5mins later the batteries are dead! try another pair, 5mins later they are dead too! Use my fully charged 2000mAh ones from my digi cam and 2hrs later it's STILL recording.

In otherwords normal batteries are shit.

The rest of the issues I see as firmware faults and will be fixed ASAP so not fussed at all.

well, prodo confirmed that he got 6 hours with his sanyo 2500mah batteries!
nice sig, btw gp32_console

Sadly, the OS/firmware on it is not open source (GP wont release it, though someone on here is trying to get them to.) yes, yes, it is GPL'd, so they are legally obligated to release it, but last I heard, they wouldnt do it.

Feel free to correct me, as I could just be misinformed.
:)

I'll be awesome, if we can fix our problems and make the firmware million times better ourselves. Now, THAT is true open source!

Im not overly certain about how GPL works but arent they allowed to build a closed source app on a open source GPL code as long as the GPL code is available (in this case the magic eyes kernel) and they are allowed to keep their binaries closed source(gui and drivers)

No, that's not how the GPL works. The GPL says that if you use GPL-ed code in your app, or you link to GPL-ed code, you have to release your own code under the GPL. The LGPL allows you to dynamically link to LGPL-ed code but not actually mix it in with your own unless you too use either the GPL or the LGPL. This prevents someone from taking your code and using it in a closed-source application. I believe (but am not 100% sure) that the Linux kernel uses a modified version of the GPL which allows you to use closed-source loadable modules with the kernel, but that code can't actually get into the kernel source without being GPL-ed. Therefore any modules used by GPH could be closed, but the actual kernel source has to be released to anyone who gets a GP2X as per the terms of the license.

Try explaining that coherently in korean and maybe, just maybe, you'll get them to release the source code ;)

He/She is foreign. English isn't everybody's first language. I would check your spelling as well ;)

The best firmwares for the GP32 were all user-made. I imagine it'll be no different for the GP2X. Really looking forward to what these dev geniuses come up with!

ditto, i really dont see why everyone has their panties in a bunch, its not like the hardware is crippled or anything *coughcough*psp*cough* it will take at most a few weeks to get any problems fixed so anyone canceling their preorders because of some early release bugs is nuts! i have never waivered in my desire to own one, i still need an SD card tho

i wonder what problem would cause the gp2x to not recognize 2gb sd cards, and how that will be fixed... has that problem been identified as a software, firmware, or hardware problem?

edit: it's not like i have the dough right from the get-go to shell out an extreme amount for a 2gb sd card, but as long as the option is available.

Has been confirmed as software issue.
They just used an old driver for SD-card, when no larger cards existed.
That's why SD reading is also a bit slow at the moment.
