Firmware Is Out

I've very briefly looked over the source tree...

I would not say its complete until someone can compile it; run it on the GP2X or perform a diff binary comparison and say its 100% identical.

I think this may be (at best) a lobotomized kernel, or just a uncompilable mess that is worthless.

However thats the worst case scenario.

Most of the problems aren't with the kernel but ALL the other software (bootloader, menu, scripts, ect...)

Its a start IF its a complete kernel.

Someone already compiled it and ran it, see the GPL FAQ thread... I doubt it's possible to get a 100% identical comparison, because of gcc versions, build flags and such. It isn't lobotomized though, calm down.

Anyone got the link which shows how to go back to a previous firmware?

Im gona give it a go as this firmware is total pig shit.

cheers

Well I don't know about anyone else but this FW update seems like a step forward to me.

* Boot times seem quicker
* No more lockups on boot
* LCD is clearer and brighter
* Proper explorer controls inc copy/move & delete
* better e-book contrast
* Nice new splash screens between stuff
* more responsive menu controls
* resume now supported in video

OH and Source! (well most of it anyway)

anything I've missed?

It seems generally a lot more complete than 1.21

One thing though,whats with the Normal/Save/full options in video?

And as for overclocking, I haven't found many apps that actually need me to overclock for good performance (except GP2PSX) and I'm sure it would be a simple matter for the devs of those that do to add a clock tweak function to the menu of them.

Be positive people!

I think the people here is going insane. How the hell are you judging people because of their so called "BAD WORK"? Do they try to make the people unhappy and sell out their GP2X? NO! This firmware is more complete than the others ofcourse. Surely there will be differences in drivers and etc. I even can see the people judging without updating their firmware?! <_<

Important Note: If you don't see the firmware version 1.4.0 on your green boot screen, that means your update has been failed. Try formating your SD cards or try with another one.

On the loading screen it says 1.40, but when i go into info it still says im 1.2.1, what should i do?

The upgrade patch (.gpu file, not .img file) did not execute correctly. Make sure you uninstall any NAND-locking programs and try running the upgrade patch again.

After upgrading firmware, you also should run the application patch (.gpu file) through Utility menu. Check both green boot screen and info in the settings menu. It should state 1.4.0

Yeah, that's crazy. And it's really annoying for "normal" users, ie people that just want to know, like me, what are the new features and/or the new bugs, without the usual GPH bashing shit ... <_<
I had to browse through 3 or 4 pages of shit about booting time before reading something useful ! As if 10 seconds less or 10 seconds more were SO important ! :angry:

Maybe this is because a short booting time can be regarded as a possible new feature that many "normal" gp2x users have on the top of their firmware update wish list. Or the other way around, a long booting time can be understood as a bug of the new firmware.

I really like the new firmware, a step in the right direction, Booting is quicker and now more lockups! (God damn I hated the lockups)

With the source code being available maybe we will now see things actually working 100% on the gp2x.

Think thats it.
So here we are.

(btw i will downgrad later... this fw sucks in my opinion, running a script for overclocking for every friggin program is pretty annoying, i dont want to have like 30 scripts for every program on my SD; and running MP3s in the background doesnt really work for me no more, so i will go back to 1.2.1 which i had before.)

So the source code is available as well? http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,42,1279

Hmm? Is this what people have been nagging for or is there more to come?

Has anyone noticed crazy dancing pixels in the bottom left hand corner of the screen in the menu? I don't notice on anything else. I'm using the Aurora skin if that makes any difference.
That is what people have wanted.
However as far as I know they are still missing the source for mplayer, however the reason that that hasn't been released is due to divX having code in there, that needs to be cut out. The source for that should be released eventually.
