Release 3.2 kernel issue tracking thread

I recompiled the latest kernel to use the now de-facto (almost all shops in Paris sell that kind of model:TP-Link TL-WN721N) big size usb dongle.

Had to enable ath9k and ath9k_htc, and i ran into a big bad bug that forces me to reboot the unit.

Any idea on this ?

Dunno, well, it loads automatically on a PC.

Also, i succeeded to compile it on OP previously.

Indeed i was wrong.

Anyway this is working perfectly, and this dongle is amazingly fast.

Also tried the internal wifi. Seems faster than before.

Thx.

There is something iffy with the USB host or UVC webcam driver vs 2.6.27

I have a cheap usb 2.0 webcam 1871:0d01, dmesg reports manufacturer "AVEO Technology Corp." Product "USB2.0 Camera".

I have an usb hub with only the camera - the camera would work even without the hub, but i ended up testing like this.

In 3.2.45, i enable usb host (load the module), then I attach the hub.

The hub and camera get recognized.

I use the mplayer binary from smplayer2 like this: ./mplayer -fs tv://

It fails to open the camera, and the kernel log says that both the hub and the camera disconnected (USB disconnect).

I am no longer able to get the host to detect the hub and camera, even by re-loading the module (ehci-hcd) and/or re-attaching the hub.

In 2.6.27, everything goes as above, upto the smplayer2 part where i get a picture on screen and it works just fine.

I don't have much to suggest here except enabling USB (and maybe webcam driver) debugging and recompiling, maybe you'll see what's going on.

Other option would be to bisect but that won't really work as pandora won't even boot on many kernels between 2.6.27 and 3.2.

attached first dmesg with all output that i could get enabled... I have an idea, I'll be back with an edit...

EDIT:

http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/faq/ <-

See the section " My camera produces corrupted images, is very slow to start or is generally unstable. "

so, doing this

echo -1 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend

before loading the ehci-hcd, workarounds this issue.

But i still find it a bit odd that it manages to so totally hang when the problem happens... but well, upgrading to >=3.6 would propably fix this for good...

Hm, you normally don't switch kernels just because there are newer ones available. You would do, if there are some major bug fixes or new features the hardware could benefit from.

As I don't follow kernel development, is there something important new?

I follow new kernels features, and here and then i told myself some features would be cool on the OP.

Can't pinpoint anything from memory, but as you can imagine, there's a huge gap between 3.2 and 3.10.
