I use IE I'm happy so why change? People can hack into my computer all they want theres nothing much there to take. A few pc games etc. I've never had a problem with IE. ;)
Its people like that, that ruin things for the rest of us.

Thats like going to a store and paying $10 for something, that the store next door sells for $2. "Oh I dont care" you say, "I have the money to waste", so you dont support the store that gives you a great deal, you support the store thats ripping you off. Making it harder for the good store to stay in bussiness, and eventually, since so many people "Just dont care", the good store, with great prices, goes out of bussiness, forcing everyone to pay the extremely high prices.

If everyone goes to the $2 store, the $10 store will eventually figureout that they need to lower their prices a bit, to some reasonable degree if they plan to keep their customers.

This is how the entire world works. If one group/company/individual does something better than the rest, everyone else steps up to try and out do them, its a never ending cycle, the reason we get such great new games, and the all of the next gen consoles, and these new handhelds that are coming out, etc...

By using a different browser, you are forcing microsoft to look at and address these issues, in the end creating a better browser. Maybe someday IE wont be one big large security hole, that require tons of 3rd party software to make up for all of the missing security features and functions, and have all the nice features that nearly every other browser does, but it wont happen if you just dont care.

But IE is free so why should I care? Your comparing with a store scenario but thats not compatible. Microsoft aren't forcing you to use there software and anyway they don't know what I'm using or do they? And yeah if I haven't had a problem I don't get why I should change??? The old saying "if it ain't broken don't fix it" And yeah I hate microsoft like the next guy but I think XP and the latest IE are pretty good.

If it aint broke dont fix it? I agree completely, however, IE is very seriously broke and needs to be fixed.

kotd. a serious question here, did you ever really pay attention in english classes? (or whatever your native language is)? Do you really honestly think I was talking about money? Or anything even remotely close to that? No insult intended, it just seems like the whole point just went way over your head.

You should have a look at the word Metaphor.
"The transference of the relation between one set of objects to another set for the purpose of brief explanation"

Do you notice any relations between that defintion and the whole speach about money? Please dont make me have to explain that.

Well I kinda half arsed read ur post sorry :p Ok fine IE is shit but I'll still use it till something major happens. And I've used it for years now. I usually agree with you 100% ;)

Well most of this isnt opinion, its fact. IE has thousands of exploits, all of which can be verified on various online resources.

IE doesnt have ad blocking, or popup blocking, or tabbed browsing, it doesnt support themes, it doesnt allow you to block images from the choosen domains, it allows for people to run scripts that will take over your browser, change your homepage, add bookmarks, install and run software on your PC, etc..etc...etc.., there is nothing to "Agree" or "Disagree" with, its simple fact.

If you understand all of that, you understand that IE is one large security hole thats directly imbeded into your OS and that Microsoft doesnt really listen to their users requests (or there would have been tabbed browsing, and popup blockers years ago), and is not adding these features simply to create an artifical market for 3rd party software, to make money, and still choose to use it, thats your choice. However, by supporting such a product, you support Microsofts actions with that product.

If he uses IE, he uses IE.

It works for him, best leave it at that. :)

I even use IE sometimes even though i've got Firebird, when I just can't be bothered to spend ages for it to come up.

Yay! its like a carnival! Only, instead of rides, its viruses, security issues, browser hijacks and other "fun" things!!
I found this amsuing. A couple points:

- I use Mozilla still. It opens instantly with Quick Launch and has the most updated changes, as well as tons of web developer stuff. I tried Firefox and it's nice, simple. I definitely won't mind when 1.0 merges it in to the trunk.

I can't live without tabbed browsing now. If I see a lot of links, I just don't have the goddamn patience to right click, Open In New Window, wait a little bit, then minimise the new IE window away as it pops annoyingly into my face. Single middle click = better.

Looks like XP SP2 will be cranking up security so high that even Windows Update won't work unless you jam it into the trusted sites. Virtually everything will be locked down. In my opinion, this is a pathetic substitute for actually fixing up your code to work as it's supposed to.

As for Netscape, AOL pays (well, used to) Mozilla staff a bit of cash and they work on the browser. Then AOL take the code, apply their useless branding, package in Netscape Communicator (AIM/ICQ) and Netscape Winamp (Winamp with crappy skin) and some other bloaty features, mostly preconfigured links and plugins. I don't think it's that much worse than regular Mozilla, though.

BTW Akuma, it's a pity that IE was rejected. The Mac OS IE was developed by a different group of people and is surprisingly good, mostly at following the standards. In particular it's one of the best renderers of PNG images with transparency as well as CSS support which is top-notch.

A few more things - I definitely second support for AdBlock, it's awesome, as well as googlebar. Throw in gestures and you have virtually everything you need. And try to avoid nightly builds if you can, if you're running Moz as your main browser. Sticking with the official releases and perhaps betas is a good idea.

Kotd... I've evangelised Mozilla enough (it's a natural tendency after you've used something so good) to know that you're a lost cause until you get hacked or find your homepage set to www.annoyingsearchportalspampage.com ... which is going to happen very soon at this rate.

one other thing i forgot to mention is the way firefox has a google engine built in! and you can add other engines to search from! I dont even have to have google as my homepage any more!

In SP1 (and SP2 beta, which I have :D), you can completly disable any traces of IE. Something in Add/Remove Programs. Except you can't uninstall it, since windows explorer, desktop, everything is basicly a webpage rendered in IE :)

But I don't take away all traces, since there are some pages (especially Windows Update site) that only work with IE.

Doesnt work for me, when I open My Computer and type in a web address in the bar, IE comes up, even though I "removed all traces". Not to mention that alot of programs or games "in game" website link, usually always brings up IE rather than my default html viewer. This is something hardcoded into the games. I have been trying for ages to figureout how to force these games, and My Computer, etc... to use my default web browser, to no avail.

The uninstall just basically gets rid of the link in your Start Menu and on your Desktop, it doesnt really do much else.

And there is a built in google bar in Firefox that can be set to have any and all of your favorite search engines in it. However, out of habit, I still use www.google.com lol

Oh and that windows update site works in Firefox just fine, its another one of those "we redirect you if you dont have IE" pages, you can force Firefox/Mozilla to report that its IE and everything works fine.

Yup, that feature can be a lifesaver because my internet explorer has pop up mesages every 5 seconds. ;)

I'm giving it a go too, it seems pretty nice except Norton password manager doesn't seem to recognise it.

I can't remember my passwords for loads of things!
Firefox has a password manager, everytime you enter a password it will ask you if you want to remember it (Yes, Never For this Site, No). You dont need a 3rd party password manager.

Yeah, but I've lost my old passwords!

It is a much better password manager than IE has. IE just wouldn't store passwords for some sites for no apparent reason.

One more problem now, the download thing seems pretty bad, if I'm getting 2 files it won't load anything else on the same site...

I get the very same thing in IE, Netscape, Mozilla, or practically any other browser I've used. Its wierd and I have no idea why sites do that. It cant be a bandwidth thing because if you use getright or similar then you can be downloading hundreds of files from the same site without problem. I've rarely gotten higher than 2 downloads from a site using IE or Firefox (I tested Netscape to see if it did the same thing and it did).

Some sites will let me get up to 4 downloads before everything slows to a crawl, it does this in all browsers.
