Finally, a bit more news!

Do you buy Pyra or other devices to impress your friends?

I buy Pyra or other devices for the pleasure and/or functionality they give back to me, not to impress friends or other people.
I just wrote that, because LogicalUnit wrote, that he wants to show it to his friends.

Yes, I knew there was risk. Yes, it was my decision to pay in bitcoin.
I don't know where you live, but in Germay, you can cancel your preorder and get your money (your bitcoin) back. Also after seven years.
The purchase agreement is fulfilled and avlid, after you received your order. And also after that you have 2 weeks to send it back and revoke your order.

Yes, actually, we're aiming for the 5.10. Kernel at the moment (as that's the last one that has fully working 3D), but there were also numerous fixes afterwards that shouldn't be too hard to be backported.
AFAIK this will give a "Kernel too old" with Slackware ARM and probably a lot of recent Linux distributions incl. Debian bullseye.
6.1 should work (tested on a devboard but can't remember exactly).

I wish I have the experience and could help. Does anyone know a really good book like Kernel Development for Dummies?

Linux kernel development by Love is an excellent read. He has a sense of humour and it's just like a really good operating systems book. A bit old but I'm not sure how much has changed.

True, but you will get the money back you paid for. The payment was done in EUR, so what he would receive back would be the same amount of EUR.
Currency conversion is always at the risk of the buyer.

5.10 is an LTS kernel with EOL in 2026, so it should work with every stable distribution until then.

From: http://www.slackware.com/changelog/stable.php?cpu=arm

patches/packages/glibc-2.33-arm-5_slack15.0.txz: Rebuilt.
Usually on Slackware ARM, glibc is built to require the major version and
patch level of the Linux Kernel that was first shipped publicly with the
Slackware release.
In the case of Slackware AArch64 this was Linux 5.15, and for Slackware v15.0
on the ARM32 platform it was Linux 5.10.
Doing this prevents obsolete support being compiled into glibc to support
old Linux Kernels that will never be used in Slackware.
This works fine when the OS is running natively on ARM hardware, but under
emulation running within older environments and older Kernels this can cause
issues with unsupported system calls.

In this build glibc now requires a minimum Linux Kernel version 5.4, so that
applications/environments that don't support the 'faccessat2' system call can
fall back to 'faccessat' rather than crashing with a message such as
`1 Unknown syscall 439`.

So that should work.
I can check that at some point as I've kept my old builds.

Linux 5.10 is the standard kernel version in Debian bullseye?
I updated PyraOS to bullseye then sid, the system was still bootable.

If the payment was done in EUR, he gets EUR back.
But if he paid with a Bitcoin, he gets his bitcoin back.
There is no currency conversion in a puchase agreement. You can say "I buy it in EUR" and then convert your bitcoin in Euro, but as a seller, you normally don't know that and you don't care.

Have fun discussing the terms of service with the payment processing service handling the bitcoin payment, if they didn't already went bankrupt like most crypto bro companies. Sellers don't care because their 3rd party middle-man takes care about the conversion, they still get their payment in Euros.

You don't just pay in other currencies, you use the service of a payment processor that indirectly provides you with the Euros to pay for it. Be it a normal bank, Paypal, or some shady crypto service startup.

New here. Been watching awhile though and waiting for enough spendable cash for one of these bad boys.

@EvilDragon, I was wondering. What if you sent out a couple units to some of the YouTubers who review devices like this and retrogaming handhelds? Some have done the Win GPD too. I ask because they could not only possibly and hopefully give good reviews, but let the public see it and be drawn here. And maybe also get more people who can help with it. Just a friendly idea.

not a new idea, been proposed several times. However seeing as the production of units is still very slow and there are 600+ outstanding orders t fill i dont think getting more advertising for the units is needed right now. Once production ramps up maybe. Just my opinion but i dont think ED needs anymore stress in his life right now.

Its not that easy to find the right YouTubers , there are lots of tech Chanel’s but whitouth the right background, they would more likely harm the Projekt than help..
If you look on the naked numbers, . The Pyra dosnt perform that good yet, there are Chinese Handheld in this Formfactor that plays up to PS2; and they even brought all of the Roms ready installed even if it’s quite illegal ..
My last Video was where I did test which Emulator runs fine whit 1 ghz, but I will continue when the PSP Emulator is ready..
