Case Improvements and the keymat

ICYMI, there's been some case talk in the Spectrum of Pyra Renders thread. Wish I knew how to copy links in the Switch browser.

1.5 years on the case and it is still not perfect. I keep asking because we keep going down this road....

At what point do you just proceed as is? There will always be some new fix or thing to try which may not fix the issue.

Shrink marks are minor. I would rather have something I preordered 5ish years ago with shrink marks than wait another 1.5 years. With all these delays how many parts are already EOL?

Get the product out. Then fix the minor shrink mark issue.

From what I understand in the Spectrum of Pyra Renders thread, this minor case issue really is minor though, as in they already know what steps to take, and ED will update us soon, when they're done. As of now, ED and them had already moved on to discussing colors.

I'm leaning towards the classic dark red that we've seen in the render on the main page for so long, myself. Anything else wouldn't really feel right to me.

Well, if you did follow the newsposts, then you should know that we just moved the molds end of January because the old company clearly was not able to fix the issues (they didn't really do much within the last 1.5 years).
The new company had to finish a different job first and just started to check and work on the molds 1.5 weeks ago. They have already tried more things than the other company within the last 1.5 years and newly produced cases with different materials are on the way to me.
They're looking into fixing the mold at the same time as trying to find colors and materials that minimize the shrinking and hide the issues.

So give them at least a bit of time :)

BTW: Only one mold is affected by that issue, the others are fine.

I did follow that. My concern is this is following the same path that cost 1.5 years with no hard cutoffs and continual modification.

The question is at what point will the cases be produced regardless of any remaining superficial flaws?

3 months? 5 months? 1.5 years?

I think after ~5 years there should be a hard cut off on the cases.

I'd say, it is done, when it is done. The new company is a huge improvement in my oppinion.
They delivered prototypes within no time for a rather small Job, which is quite unusual and a really good sign.
This doesn't mean I don't like my Pyra yesterday ;) ... Android is really killing my last sense of humor.
I guess the copper anodes are either for electro polishing or eroding.
Eroding is quite common when you have to work on really hard stuff, and Molds should be really hard to not wear.

Getting the shoulder buttons to function properly was/is not superficial.

That is no longer an issue...and wasn't an issue. The new company said "we can improve it." Just wait there will be more changes.

I would agree if i were new to this... But I'm not and half a decade + is a long time. I have moved twice, got married and had a kid, and still no pyra from preordering

Don't forget that, regrettable as it was, the last company only spent 18 months spinning their thumbs because ED was busy; the were other things to concentrate on, plus his shop, plus his day job. This new firm seem a lot more proactive about getting things working, although if communication slows and samples stop showing up, then I'm sure ED will be more proactive about fixing things, although so far it's all looking rather gravy.

I think ED is ready to patch the puzzle together. As nearly all issues are addressed and a couple being probed by ED let us give ED some breathing space to work out all these now without any more input from all . Ed probably spends more time going through all these messages and suggestions and answering them than actually working on the project in hand.

Just now I'll take dark grey, dark red, mid beige, mid grey, even bright yellow just so long as I can get to play with my precious.
Just now I think I'd happily take it without a case and stick it all together with duct tape in a sort of Heath Robinson duct tape case.

We still have time to work on cases till PCB are in mass production, which will happen once prototypes are tested thouroughly. So There is no need to mass produce premature cases if they have to just wait for other components.
