@EvilDragon Did the Pandora nubs work the same way, ie with a small magnet and a hall sensor?
No the Pandora nubs were custom made things, essentially worked like a 2D plane potentiometer. Had a brush that made contact to a flat surface with a resistive layer on it.
 
Perhaps not, although I will need to rewatch the video to see how easy it is to separate that PCB from its cage. And in coming from the Pandora nubs, I tend to think that the problem is rarely in the springyness of the physical matter but the craziness of the logic inherent in it, which is probably an incorrect bias given the difference between the way the two are made. But I can still see failure modes in that clicker, and the spring (if twisted the wrong way too much), and even the hall effect sensor which is on the opposite side of the board (although all far more uncommon than wonky Pandora nub-itis seemed to be).
Agreed. The main point of twist damage should be sprung springs though. From the looks of it, I wonder if that internal spring coil could be transplanted from a new nub into one already on a board. Nub heart surgery?

Learned a few additional things about the Pyra (e.g. nubs). It was also nice to hear about your gaming history and more.

I think the same live format with chat would be great to showcase the Pyra once the prototype can boot the actual OS/works well enough.

But really getting those final prototypes out there is the IMO the most important.

I also don't know what is the status 3 you're referring to.

Pyra uses a resistive screen (as opposed to the capacitive one on most smartphone). Meaning you can use anything that applies adequate pressure on the screen and it will work. Stylus typically have a slightly rounded tip to avoid too much pressure and (easily) scratching the screen.

Stating the obvious, the Pyra comes with a stylus. (same thing as any PDA back in the days).

One of my favorite aspect of the Pandora/Pyra controls is using the nubs to control the cursor.
In most cases, I find this more natural/convenient that using the touchscreen. (of course both have their uses)

The improved/fixed nubs on the Pyra is a really big deal for me.
 
The LG Stylus 3 is a smart phone with a standard capacitive screen but also uses a custom active stylus to get super precision. I suspect deep is asking if the Pyra supports that stylus. It's akin to asking if the Pyra supports waccom and such.
The answer is probably no, but the good news is that, as mentioned, the Pyra uses a resistive touch screen, not capacitive, which allows for incredible precision and touch sensitivity with nothing but a plastic stylus, so there's no need for an active stylus.
The trade off using a resistive vs capacitive is that the screen has to be slightly flexible (can't use tempered glass to resist scratches: should get a scratch guard), and (technically) no multitouch, though it can simulate two finger touch gestures well enough, like rotation and pinch.
 
But really getting those final prototypes out there is the IMO the most important.
Indeed. Even a day or two delay in getting the new prototypes to the developers for testing and development could add weeks to project.

Just two things I kinda missed :
- The volume was waaay down. -18dB from the YT stats. I'm lucky I didn't receive a Skype call during the stream otherwise my ears would've bled, heh.
- I really liked the little gaming history, but I'd also loved to know when your Linux usage came from. Maybe another time ?

I see, no experience with it but seems like a cool technology. I suspect the added cost and complexity must be significant.

Pyra is just a resistive touchscreen. It just could not support this. As you mentioned some form of multi-touch and I believe (limited) pressure sensitivity should be possible. Depending on driver/software...

One last thing I would add about capacitive touchscreen is that the scratch proof surface also makes them hard/brittle: there is no shortage of broken/shattered smartphone screen.

Resistive screen are more resistant is this area. Considering the handheld/hinge design of the Pyra, I think that is a consideration.
 
Really enjoyed the stream, not that I had any particular question in mind.

It would be great to have a similar session once the OS is more mature and can show some more things.

And it really would be interesting to have a similar stream with Nikoulaus and ATC, and other involved deeply in the project all together. Maybe this is too much to work.
 
I know AtC is usually on IRC, so he could always chip in assuming ED's running his irc client on that laptop. Maybe hns could join for the purposes of a stream, and they could both chip in when needed as long as they're actually watching and paying attention.

FWIW, I would hope people wouldn't so much say the Pyra's resistive touchscreen doesn't support this or that. It doesn't support the technology in those styluses, but that never means you can't use them. You could use a house brick, especially if you rounded the corner to make it less scratchy, if you wanted to. It remains almost pixel accurate, regardless of what you use as a stylus, although fat capacitative pens (and rounded housebricks) make the act of pressing the screen almost inherently less accurate, you could also say.
