I'm out of ideas for news-titles

I hope everyone subscribing to that list will resist the urge (the very strong urge, I find...) to post to it. As a group we are not very disciplined about staying on topic here on the forums, and the last thing that list needs is noise from us mostly ignorant blighters. Perhaps safer to follow the discussion from the web-based list "archive"; don't be deceived by the name, mailman keeps the archive pages up to date.

Hi guys, I'm bibifuret, a french viewer...New on this post but old in viewing the work and products made by Evil Dragon.
Whatever we want and what we need, all I know is just that all team is doing the best for us...
Ram is not the reel issue.
We all want our Pyras... I just ordered a 4gb but I really need so much every time.
Keep support the team, keep cool and don't forget, we are less than 1100 persons in the universe who can have this treasure in our pockets.
I'm personnaly proud of my Pandora.
So, I'm still waiting and I'll take what ED want to give me...
You're resistance, we are...
Sorry for my english :(

Bonjour!*
I think that when bigger production will start, there will be more users interested with Pyra. And there certainly are some people who will wait, get reviews from ones who pre-ordered, and then purchase. They also want their Pyras. There is a chance, especially that portable devices like smartphones are now quickly compromised model after model, and no updates are for them - a Linux PDA may then become an interesting alternative.
The most important thing is there not to "miss the mark" with security as we missed with privacy when users just get used to being abused.
Please do not go offtopic again about it :).

* After 2 years of trying to learn French and 4 visits in France that's all I can say in French :D.

C'est dommage.

Also, I'd like to take a moment I fucking love Wally's avatar. It's lame, it's stupid, and I love it to bits.

(Now if only my GIF animated too. :()

Oh non, french is easy. Come a 5th time and verify...:D

I don't see french as easy.

Take for example the [k] sound (as in kilo).
You can write it with the letter 'k' of course.
You can also write it with the letter 'q', but you'll need an extra 'u' at its right.
I don't know why, and it's not needed if the 'q' is at the end of the word
(and I don't know why either).
You can as well write the [k] sound with a 'c', but only if it is before certain vowels.
Otherwise you'll have the sound 's' (as in sierra).
But you can also have the sound 's' if you put a cedilla under the 'c': ç,
when preceeding the vowels making 'c' sound like [k].
And you can also have the two letters 'ch', usually making the sound [ch] (as in shallow).
Sometime they make the sound [k], it's inherited from the greek /chi/.

There are rules to double consonnants sometime, to change the sound they make.
An 's' can sound or [z] (as in zulu).
There are sometimes not-to-be-prononced letters that had been added to words,
just because of their latin origin (finger, « doigt » {doo-ha}, from /digitus/).

Spelling is anything but bijective.
The verb « chercher » (to seek) is pronounced {sh-hair-sh-hey}.
Same letters, different sounds.
The name « Sissi », pronounced {see-see}.
Same sounds, differents letters (double 's').

I wonder how people have the nerves to learn such a language.
I admire them.

EDIT: removed letter-stroking.

Sure writting perfect french is hard. Many french fail at that too :D (btw, you forgot so many rules with exceptions)
But speaking is not that hard. Especially if you think that most pedendic english come from frenchy :p So a native english should know many french word (even if he doesnt know how to spell them correctly)

Seriously guys :

from 1H58 to 2H02
French: "une heure cinquante-huit à deux heures deux."
English: "from two to two to two two"

Or :

French: "Trois sorcières suédoises et transsexuelles regardent les boutons de trois montres Swatch suisses. Quelle sorcière suédoise transsexuelle regarde quel bouton de quelle montre Swatch suisse?"
English: "Three Swedish switched witches watch three Swiss Swatch watch switches. Which Swedish switched witch watch which Swiss Swatch watch switch?"

See that english is way harder now ?
:D

Well mine DOES animate, just... not on this forum, I guess the forum software isn't set to allow regular members to use animated GIFs as avatars, presumably to save forum bandwidth and/or database size (though allowing for an externally linked one solves that for the most part).

The full one can be found here in its glory:

(For bonus cool points, identify them all!)

In English we'd just say "Two to Two" or "One Fifty-Eight" or simply "Almost Two o'clock." It's also pretty common for us to be lazy and just round off to the nearest five minutes unless the exact time is critically important. :p

Also, you've got no excuse for deciding time by going an hour up and subtracting. When 2:45 can be read as "trois heures moins quinze," something's wrong.

English also has its own wonderful sentences that seemingly make little sense but are grammatically correct, such as "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo," as well as ones that make sense only if you add in punctuation, because otherwise it's a complete mess: "James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher."

Weird, try reuploading it :) (It's too fast for me right now to identify the characters as it's not even 8AM, I did see Mario though :p)

It's basically everythink important and Japanese (if not everyone) from before about 1985; Sonic, Mario, Megaman, Excitebike, Breakout bat, Punch out, Baloon Kid, Pac Man etc. etc.

It's quite sedately paced on my copy of firefox, although one or two of them just pop up and down which can make identifying them tricky.

Before 1985? Wrong, sir, most of these are after 1985.

Also, Sonic? In an NES pipe collection? I think you're seeing things...

It might be the size: if the server scaled it internally, it probably stripped the animated frames. The embedded images in posts are not scaled internally (that is, the file is not modified), but by the browser when displaying it.

The avatars are 96×96 pixels, but your original animated GIF is 90×90. I'd try first scaling it to 96x96 (or adding a 3px border) with some program that preserves the animation, then upload it.
That seems to be it. It's scaling it up to 96x96, then converting it to JPG, which obviously destroys the animation.

I'll see if I can fix it, but that will take a bit.
