Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

Really? I thought it is running very well regarding the quite high price and the actual competitor (GPD Win)

Yes. At least 1500 units have to be sold before such vouchers can be used (because it's still a small company that needs a profit margin for their hard work). Look at the lower part of the provided link for source. Or did I understand the IOU wrong? I actually don't know all the different things Craig screwed up and how it was handled since then, it's a way too messy situation for any outsider to understand.

oh yeah, somehow i glossed over the one i was looking for:

Q: I still didn't receive my Pandora preorder and heard I can get it for production cost price! How does that work?
A: Don't worry, we'll keep our promise and will send you a voucher code eventually. However, we cannot afford that right from the start - we need to get at least 1500 preorders first before we can send these vouchers out.
You can then use the voucher any time, you can also wait until the Pyra is available from stock!

suppose i'll wait some moooooore, then.

Argh! Thanks for mentioning that, I made a mistake here!

All orders from now on should receive the voucher code right away and I'll create the voucher code for everyone else manually within the next few days! (just give me a day off tomorrow :))
Does this mean that those who ordered after you fixed the mistake will receive their unit before those who ordered before the fix?

You certainly have a point there. Perhaps I compare it too much to the Pandora pre-orders. I vaguely recall the site being completely unreachable at the time.

Then again, that was a countdown pre-order. In this particular case I had no idea the pre-orders were about to happen (I did not see the mail and just happened to check the site for some news).

Interesting to see that almost nobody is ordering the 2GB version :) If it stays like this then it probably won't even pay off to make the smaller ones.

Closing in on the 250 now.

Isn't it amazing at how many people were like, there shouldn't be a 4GB option. Now it's the best selling option by a country mile.

Only 5 people have gone for the 2GB options (all of them combined) vs 161 people for the 4GB models. ie the 4GB options are outselling the 2GB options by a ratio of 32:1

Given the above, I think ED should scrap the 2GB options
I was one of the early 2GB ones (impression I'd got from the forum the last few days is there's hardly any use for 4GB), looked at the stock numbers a bit later, and everyone has changed their mind and gone for 4GB - did I make a mistake?

(is there any reason not to use PLS8-X instead of PLS8-US for the US version??)
It costs more and the only carrier that uses it is Verizon, and you'd only be able to use it on their LTE networks anyway, their older networks are CDMA. Besides, they're rolling out band 2 and 4 towers which are supported so it could become redundant eventually.
And in any case, fuck Verizon. :p

No, you're absolutely correct, there is no call for 4GB for the average person. Most people are probably getting it because "more is better!" even if they don't need it and it could have an effect of up to 10% on their battery life.

I choose 4GB ram because you can never have too much ram, but you can have too little.
I chose 4GB in spite of my initial preference, because
- of the unsolved discussion whether 2x1GB might be slower compared to a setup where all four slots are populated, since the 4x512MB doesn't seem to be an option anymore because of the minimum order requirement
- the big impact on energy consumption is doubtful and Exophase rather believes it not to be significant, but it hasn't been tested
- it might affect a virtual OS in a positive way
- there might still be a way to deactivate the additional 2GB at some point, giving you the best of both worlds

Many untested theories.
No matter what you choose, there's always a risk that the other option would have brought you less significant downsides, so I went for more in the end, since the energy consumption is less severe than in any other mobile device and the battery is exchangable already anyway...
A way to deactivate 2GB if needed would be awesome, I guess.

I wish those tests on the differences of the versions would have been done, but ED seemed to be kind of in a hurry to not lose more sales to the "other one", which is perfectly understandable since atm it's about making the Pyra mass production happening at all and it's most likely already way more tested and optimized than anything from GPD which is just rushing out new devices with copied ideas to sell on a regular basis without much support.

I'm confused. Will the vibramotor only be available to the mobile version?

Sorry about that. I did come across as a bit of an ass. I tend to do that from time to time when I don't read what I'm posting out loud. I do it IRL as well, much to the hilarity and detriment of those around me.

I think the vibration motor is on all versions.

NO, it's not. It's only in the mobile versions. Just read the product description before ordering and especially before answering questions wrong, if there's still something unanswered, you can read the FAQ.

It _is_ on all Versions (I think that ED changed that later)

So true. I know I based my choice of 4GB on multi tasking. I know my Surface when I get a little heavy in the resource usage it becomes a sloth. I know the 2GB can be upgraded to the 4 and higher later but I would rather go for the better now and grow into it.
