Uae4all Amiga Emulator Port To Gp2x

General progress: I've merged in most of the savestate stuff now, so hopefully I'll be able to get something out this weekend.

That would be brilliant! Finally I could make a start on Cadaver as speed isnt really an issue and neither is sound but saving is essential :)

I am waiting for the save states for playing through the Chaos Engine. Another great Bitmap Brothers game.

Ah, yes. That's a brilliant game. Just the good old times...

@critical

Exellent work. Kudos.

@critical
I wold just take a interval from -2 to 2 ... I don't think there is need for more vaules, 'cause most people use values in this range.

Is your gp2x bricked or something?
yes ... i broke my stick by playing "The last Blade" :(. I sent my GP to EvilDragon to get a repair and now I'm waiting untill gph sends a replacement-stick.

Critical,

how easy would it be to implement a small virtual hard drive for miggy4all? It'd be neat if we could make HD installs of our favorite games to avoid constant disk swapping. *stares upsettedly at all of his old favorite Cinemaware games*

Allan.

I suppose a hdd should be on the bottom of the list because it definitely needs a lot of work and critical already said he would look into adding more disk drives so that almost no swapping would be needed.
As far as I know, a harddrive was not something a regular A500 user had.

I never had a hard drive, that's for sure! I used to run a fidonet point from a couple of floppies :) OT: I've been downloading and playing with all the entries from the competition in what little time I've had free today, so savestates aren't actually going to happen until sometime next week. It's looking pretty good so far, though.

I love to see a dev enjoying the system he's coding for

Me too... Enjoy your "free time" Critical.

You were a FidoNet Point? I've not heard anyone being one of those for a long time... 2:254/40.4 was me. Wow, flood of memories coming back!

As for A500s a with HD, they worked really well, used to run a BBS on one :)
When support comes about in the emu it'll be great, but I'm sure there are a lot more important things first...

Your work is very much appreciated Critical, and enjoyed.

[greps through old nodelist]... so that's Test Drive BBS, then?

I think quite a few people around here are/were on fido. EvilDragon said on another thread that he's still running a fidonet mailbox from his A4000. Skeezix ran a BBS and was on fido too. I just ran a point off my friend Mark's node 2:253/419 (Undocumented Feature). The software was fantastic, really. TrapDoor and Spot were my tools of choice. I'll never forget the sense of community we had on fidonet - yes, the flames were unsurpassed, but at least they tended to be intelligent. The internet (well, especially usenet) felt so cold after I left fido. At least some forums like this are around now where we can spend a bit of time sharing our hobbies :)

Hi all

I have been following the gp2x scence closely and espically this thread, loved my amiga and always hope one day these hand helds would get the power needed to run one. So critical my old mucker happy days when you starting posting about this emulator.

Just thought i would put two pennies worth about the emulator, saving is key i would so i`m glad critcal is putting together something to sort it out. Also saw someone mention the old a500 harddrive aaahhh those were the days i had a 40mb one. No more disk swapping and quicker games marvellous but i would agree and say that more disk drives would be handy then the HDD option.

TO end on my fav games for the amiga :-

Player Manger
Captive
Supercars 2
Blood Money
Vroom (quickest game ever man that game was fast)
stunt car racer (why noone has done a re hash of this game beyond me!!)

keep up the good work critical and the rest of the coders!!

That would be right, on Steve Birds TestDrive, the man responsible for getting me addicted to the Amiga and Comms in genral..

Good to know that there are other people still using FidoNet, it was a shame when I had to give it all up. Saying that I'm sure it's still at Mums place!

TrapDoor and Spot, so you were using MUI then? :) Well for Spot anyway. Nico Francois (sp?) was one good programmer, wonder if he has a GP2x..... :)
I used to use TrapDoor and Foozle, old and worn out, but I loved it.

As you say, the Usenet wasn't that welcoming at all. Shame really...
People used to flame the hell out of me for using the Fido style of replying

Still do it in emails, although less so on boards. :)
Finding little cubby holes like this on the net more than makes up for it though!

So, how long before we're able to use TrapDoor and Spot on UAE4all? ;)

Disk activity light
--------------------

I grabbed the source of sdl2x this lunchtime because it advertised control of the battery LED. I looked at how it was done, and I've implemented it in UAE4ALL now as an option to display disk activity. However, I'm rather wary of over-riding an LED that people might actually use for determining battery status.

As it stands, the status line is off by default. I was therefore thinking that it'd be logical to have the battery LED disk activity indicator on by default.

Are people happy with that setting?

If you want to suck it and see, the binary's up here as 0.4.3:

http://www.vividvillage.com/

I've got a separate code branch for the savestate work, so don't worry - I haven't abandoned it :)

There's no other reason to take 0.4.3... it's just a trivial change, but someone (lucoxade) asked for it a while ago, and I had a spare 10 minutes.

what's about connecting the disk activity to the green power on led and the error message to the red battery empty led?
EDIT: Or is the power on led hardwired with the power slide of the gp2x?

It seems reasonable to suppose that messing with the power LED isn't an option, but I honestly don't know. I'm not keen to do anything else with the lights, anyway, as they have a fairly clear normal purpose that I don't want to arse about with more than necessary... I only did this today 'cos it seemed like a fun little job.

Multi-disk games work fine as a general concept... you load the first disk, wait for it to ask you for the second, hit the Select button, go to "load image", select disk 2 of your game, select 'Run' again. There's a wiki compatibility list here:

http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/UAE4all

Gunfighter and Sword of Sodan haven't been added to the list, which doesn't mean that they do or don't work. I remembered someone asking about SOS before, and checked back in the thread, and it turns out it was you :)

It'd be great if you tested it yourself and then contributed to the compatibility wiki if you have time, since you're a fan of it and could spot issues. I've never played it. Of course, if you don't have a gp2x yet, that wouldn't be possible.

EDIT: I had a quick play of it, and it seemed fine until beating back the first wave of nasties, whereupon it didn't like the disk swapping back to disk 1 for some reason (possibly volume labels not handled properly). Don't have time to do anything about it right now.
