This is quite the opposite to what some in your family seem to be doing.
It was somewhat embarrassing for me when I was quite young, since I still didn't like attention and being hugged and kissed and such. Maybe they did it to make me uncomfortable. I remember I used to get hugged and squished and I couldn't escape and would get lots of kisses and stuff.
Both sadly seem to involve alcohol pretty often.
Odd that you pointed this out and I had never considered it before. The loud and physical people I mentioned are/were not drinkers, nor were they really into anything of the sort. I lived with a few of them, so I would(?) have noticed this stuff. Some smoked cigarettes, but that is about it.
Why can't just everyone like humans?
Because they can't live in harmony with the world around them. They are destructive, and don't care about anything but themselves or those like them. Strictly predatory animals are less harmful to the world and other lives than humans.
I have yet to get to know one which is just genuinely not-likeable.
Come visit me and spend some time in public. If you interact with others expect some of the friendliest people you have ever known. There are also those that might interact with you if required, but they generally don't like anyone who doesn't do, think and act just like them. I think I have more respect for those who make their hateful ways known than those who are friendly to your face, but have nothing but ill will toward you when your back is turned. Then there are those who may be the worst; they have no negative feelings for others, but simply think certain others are inferior by virtue of the gender or lineage (amongst a long list of many other things), and don't notice that this view influences how they treat those people, and how those people are treated by others, or how they feel and think about themselves.
Usually when I don't like someone too much it's just because /they/ don't like too many people.
Are you saying that you dislike people who dislike people?
I have yet to get to know one which is just genuinely not-likeable.
You probably never met
rapists, mafia people, heavy drug dealers, robbers and
true psychopaths etc... Good for you. I grew up with knowing such people better than I'd ever want.
Yes, there are people who are bad to the bone, more than you probably can imagine and
these are often the ones people like most at first sight.
I should have excluded those more clearly who themselves don't share this/my attitude of liking others and doing them good. I was thinking too much in my own social context. I.e. overall
mostly smart people who are
at least lower middle class.
Those who have real problems move in a different crowd.
These types of people don't generally advertise these things. You might be surprised if you knew everyone's secrets. I am thinking that your crowd might be the perfect place to find some of these people. Actually, based on your focus, it might surprise you to learn that there is a good possibility that wealthy, successful, intelligent people are more likely to be psychopathic, especially those that don't come from money. They have the perfect set of traits to "make it" in the world.
I don't want you to feel like I am trying to argue with, or attack, you. We have all had different experiences, and we all have different opinions.
On topic a bit, I found a new way to look at the universe. New for me, at least. It delves into well trodden territory, but the underlying ideas are fairly recent due to data from astronomers and physicists and such. This thread isn't the place for it, but it should be fun. Maybe Lolla, Strigoi or others might like it.
Spill the beans then.
Not here. It would require a little bit of explaining of some things, and a little research or reading on your part.
Yeah, sorry, I should clarify that I made a slight joke there. The joke might not even be obvious to non-native english speakers.
I played along and didn't really clear it up. I just ruined the joke and made everyone sad. Sorry anyone I left out, or those that liked the joke until I replied.
thus is a (non-sexual) double-entendre.
It was until you said that...
I'm not sure that feeling good about yourself has any long-term negative connotations in social circles, assuming that's the other meaning you infer from 'great', but I'm no expert.
I was trying to extend the racism/sexism/etc. that I brought up earlier in this post while replying to T4b, to other species, and that "great" apes might try to use this label as justification for their higher status when interacting with other species. At particular risk of oppression are lesser apes, since it might be assumed that they are inferior since they are "lesser". Much worse has been done because of much less. I didn't think it was much of a stretch, but it is overly complicated. It made sense in my head.
