Hello guys,


Recently, I started a thread on how to find my mac adress on my pandora. I did what you guys said :


toggle wifi on


then terminal : ifconfig


Added my mac adress to my router.


Taaddaaaa wifi started working, I had the red led on, everything was fine.


But, yesterday, I updated to HF6a4 and boom, stopped working. What's wrong, I asked myself. I went back into the terminal, ifconfig did only gave me the loopback, nothing for the wireless(wifi was enabled).


So, I said that this was maybe a bug in this hotfix, so I flashed my unit back to HF5, and still the same problem.


I need help, Thanks to everyone throwing in any solutions/answer.

I don't know the cause of the issue you are having.


However, I just wanted to let you know that adding a mac address filter on your router only decreases the convenience of connecting with your WiFi. It adds no extra security whatsoever.

My wifi worked well before, now nothing ...
 
Kernel-module's not loaded, or wifi-chip can't be found.


Try "dmesg" ,which gives you the kernel-log, and check if you see anything weird. The log should also be in /var/log/dmesg, if you want to post here.
 
var/log/-at this folder I can't see anything dmesg? And writing dmesg gives me a lot of weird things I should post here, but I don't have the file you specify?


Edit : I mean, in var/log, what should I see there?

/var/log is the folder in which linux normally stores its system-logs. But I don't have my Pandora yet, so I don't know anything about Pandora's particular setup. Apparently, it doesn't save any logs...


The command "dmesg" gives you the kernel's internal log. You can get that to a file with something like "dmesg > /path/to/file.log"


Furthermore, you can filter the log to something more specific with something like "dmesg | grep wlan"

I'm sad 'cause it used to work really well. Can you tell me a good tiny wifi usb stick? That's what I'll ben using, though i'd like the internal to work well..

Toggle wifi brings up a window telling : enabling WLAN.


But then, when I go in terminal writing ''ifconfig'' it only gives me the lo thing, nothing about wireless.


Also, I added my mac adress to my router, wifi would work, and now after upgrading would not work. Hmmmm. I've tried several things, even installing a fresh wifi driver I found in a similar thread. Nothing showed up under ''wireless connections in network manager''.


Isn't it strange, or?

What? The wl1251 driver doesn't seems to load up properly...
 
I've tried. I reflashed my unit to hotfix5(the one which my pandora came with working wifi) but that didn't changed anything at all. I'll retry then.
 
Anyone figured this out yet? I'm having the same issue. Tried flashing with Hotfix 6 alpha 4, still no luck. =/

I'm not a great Pandora specialist, but I think mine just died. I'm not qualified enough to fix it and sending it back is no option for me, neither having a Linux device without unlimited Internet access interface is. So I've just went out and bought a compact wifi dongle and built a driver for it. Some details about it and links to source and the driver itself: http://boards.openpa...sb-wifi-driver/


I can't say the speed is super high but I'm fine with it as long as I can use a package manager, download ebooks and browse. It sticks out of Pandora a little more than out of my laptops, but it still fits in the case with it plugged in, although not so comfortable in a pocket. But I carry headphones and SD cards around with me anyway, so it's not a big deal for me. Even the toggle wifi script can be modified to work with this one if someone thinks it makes any sense.


Just in case there is no other way to fix it.


Make sure the chip you are going to use can be supported before buying. By that I mean try to figure out what sort of chip actually is inside maybe by googling for '$dongle_brand_name linux' and then '$chip compat-wireless'. Since I have all the files and applications for compiling drivers set up I think I could build one for you.

I got a VERYYYYYYYYY weird issue last 5 days. My wifi started working. How? I don't know. I rebooted the unit 10-15 times, it was still working. I was like : omg, what big luck have I just got into? But yesterday, it stopped working as fast as it started working.

Yes, very strange. As for me, ~$20 for having wifi when I need it, not when the built in chip feels like working for a while is still a good deal.
 
http://www.belkin.co...oduct_Id=525497 - this one looks exactly like mine. You want the one with rtl8192cu chip, when I'm home I'll take a look at the CD with drivers for more details. I honestly think it should be 'Belkin Surf micro' and nothing else, no index or something like that. Unfortunately, I can't find any document from Belkin nor from Realtek stating it comes only with this exact Realtek chip, but it should be this way. Maybe you could contact their dealer or some online/offline shop to check that for you? It also should cost something like $20, maybe less, that's what I paid for mine in Moscow, that stuff is expensive here.


If I understand things correct, since hotfix 6 getting drivers should become much easier as I mentioned in the topic.


P.S. As far as I can see n150 and n300 are routers and you need a usb wifi chip instead of faulty Pandora's built-in. You don't have to change your current router.


Maybe someone could borrow random dongles somewhere and we could make some tests building drivers and trying them with hotfix 6, the modules are normally under a megabyte, so it should be easy. As I said, I have a building environment ready and some free time 22 to 24 UTC+4. And maybe I could strip my current VM setup of all things unnecessary and upload it somewhere or distribute via bittorrent.
