You do? From my experience, you don't have to shove one in.
Try with the demo?

I tried with the demo pak and didnt get anything to show up. I just ordered the full version, so I can try it myself. Someone else is running with the full version and it asking for the key.

If your running Quake 3 with the latest patches, you should be able to get past the CD Key screen by simply pressing enter. Only you won't be able to play online games through ID's master server :)

Make sure to use the latest point release. The key requirement was dropped at some point. With the latest version you can just click through without entering anything (at least that's how I remember it). I think ioquake3 removed that entirely.

I think ioquake3 is indeed the best open source version of Q3. They kept in mind portability so it's a definite plus compared to others that only care about x86.

BTW I also think ioquake2 is very good, though it's not been updated for a long time. It's the version I used for my PS2 Linux port.

Hasn't someone written or built in on screen keyboard to type the key this way? no way to implement the code into yours?

Sorry I'm no techy, someone might get the jist of what i'm on about lol

Yeah its the case, we just needed the keyboard support, which i added last night. The menu is coming up in q3a, but have not been able to a game yet, seems to hang.
I havnt seen any of this myself, my q3a copy hopefully will come soon. Its hard trying to port something when you can not test it yourself :)

I eagerly await the demo of Q3 running on the Pandora.

I do not. I have no confidence that a first attempt will be perfect. It's to be expected. Just getting it running reasonably well would be enough for me. In time, optimization will get it to a better than playable speed, I'm sure.
But I am not everyone. Call me cynical, but I have full confidence that if a video of Q3 is shown playing with anything less than 30 FPS there will be all kinds of complaints and cries of lies about the Pandora's capabilities. I hope I'm wrong about the "not get 30 FPS first try" thing, because I know I'm not wrong about the "people will complain" thing.

I totally agree with this. so:

+1

I don't agree. By the same logic, we should not have been shown the angstrom build, however many months ago now, just because it's not fully optimized.

Doom 3 was supposed to be the challenge. Running at half-resolution, 30 FPS. How long has Pickle been working on Quake 3 with NanoGL? How long has he had the dev board? If I saw Quake 3 running at 10fps at half-resolution I would be happy with the amount of time spent / performance.

Plus, if Pickle is doing all this work, I would rather him show it off, rather that keep it secret just to protect the thoughts of the children.

Thanks again for all your hard work Pickle and OP team.

(On a side note Rage is supposed to be coming out sometime next year, so we will have to wait for Doom 3 for awhile anyway)

That would only be a problem if there wasn't a disclaimer in big flashing red text saying it's only just been ported and has yet to be optimised. Besides, the iPhone port of Quake 3 runs pretty good and that was ported fairly quickly too. I don't see how this can perform worse.

Speaking of which, Pickle, the iPhone quake 3 version had its renderer re-written to opengles 1.1 :) nanogl would be kind of redundant, no? You can find it in google code.

That's bound to happen no matter what. All you have to do is ignore the stupid comments and enjoy the game.

I just took a quick look and they are still creating wrapper functions for functions such as glBegin/glEnd and some other functions. It may not be any better.

I re-iterate, the Pandora does not have the hardware required to run Doom 3.

I'm afraid some people took Craigix too seriously :p

So explain why doom3 will run on crappy old voodoo graphics cards then, but not the sgx?

I think it could be possible. I see no reason to rule it out and it's bound to be much better than an N64 emu anyways.
