Time for some more news.

Case:
• As you may have seen, Azouls has some fancy new shoulder buttons which move nice and smooth. He's happy with them and is beginning the moulding process as they were just 3D printed samples.

Boards:
• Capacitors for the CPU board are on their way so EvilDragon can potentially finish the prototypes this weekend.

Key Mats: The new keymats without glue arrived yesterday, which means you can design your own fancy keyboard layout™ without others telling you no! These keys are a tiny bit louder due to not having glue holding them down however when you disassemble your pyra they may fall out. The Dragonbox Shop will of course offer replacement keycaps.

A Game: Our very own undexsym is making a Dark Souls inspired game about EvilDragon and apparently my giant ban hammer You can read all about this great thing if you dare.

See you next time :D

Thanks again @Wally :)

Is the hope that the prototypes will get sent out next week? And if so, is it too early for them to include the new shoulder buttons?

Also, have the pins been fixed and tested that are to hold the main board in place (I.e. without wobbling and causing issues with the shoulder buttons)? And do we have an estimate when all fixes to all molds will have been applied and first samples sent to ED?

In any -case- this is all great news :D

This brought back memories of a time (not so very long ago really) when everyone I knew who owned an Apple phone had one with a cracked screen. [I would watch anxiously when I saw them using them, although I never once saw any bleeding fingers.] In that era, several times a day one would hear a crash and look around to see a battery slithering across the floor and two case pieces lying about the feet of the dropped phone's owner. Always into three pieces they fell, and I find myself wondering how many pieces there will be of a dropped Pyra.

A drop test onto concrete is in order: Do the keycaps all go their separate ways?

My guess is that the case will be bouncy enough that the machine will stay in one piece and come to no harm, save perhaps if it lands on its shoulder buttons. Nonetheless my imagination conjurers up a whimsical image of keycaps flying in every which direction!

Absolutely necessary, those. And perhaps the Shop should offer a Kensington-lock-wrist-strap as well! :p

My Sister shows me her Iphone on Monday: its Display was pretty cracked :(, but she ditnt use a Case for it, so its maybe the reason..
My own and the Iphone of my Dad (my Old one) are both in a Case that its 2 Times Thicker than the actual Device.. ^^

That s are good News whit the Springs and the Capicators and the Prototyphs

Pyra is less likely to drop from hands as it is designed for two handed use. Phones designed for single handed use are more likely to drop.

Here in India many have bad habits of holding mobile with shoulder and face while talking and keeping hands free for other works, even driving. Major cause of drops and accidents.

Isn't that what the screws are for? ;)

Thanks @Wally good to hear that progress is being made.

Has there been any official word on whether the 2GB units are going to be produced? Are we at a point where that decision can be made? As mentioned in other threads from a personal perspective I can see pros and cons for whatever course is taken but on balance it would seem sensible to ditch the 2GB units (based on the tiny demand for said units and the added complexity of having so many different models).

Quick update: They're here, so I can definitely do this and ship the prototypes to more devs on Monday :)

Well, you COULD put inlays in there to create your own keyboard layout, but then you lose the backlit keys :)

I've already found the reason for the noise: The plastic caps rub on the rubber (as they're not glued anymore).
A simple fix: increase the height of the cap by 0.2mm so that there's a bit of air between the cap and the button - and that solves it.

Already tested and approved by me today :D

No, they can't. Their surrounding is bigger than the holes in the plastic parts. They cannot fall out unless you disassemble the unit.

Yes, but still with the old case and shoulder buttons.

Also, have the pins been fixed and tested that are to hold the main board in place (I.e. without wobbling and causing issues with the shoulder buttons)? And do we have an estimate when all fixes to all molds will have been applied and first samples sent to ED?

Fixed: Yes. But I don't have the samples yet.
azouls is still waiting for some new material which he thinks could be the solution to the discolorization we've seen in the plastics as well :)
I think it was bound to arrive sometime this month.

I will then get sets which should be fully fixed.

Sounds very promising. Are there any issues left now (or new issues found in dev prototypes), or we are set for mass production? Keeping fingers crossed

Thanks a lot for the update Wally and for the additional comments ED! I really appreciate transparency an keeping the community in the loop.

This shorter news cycle is fantastic. Thank you all who have taken up the reigns of giving us news so ED doesn't have to.

Today I brought my Pandy to work for the first time in ages. I've tried to replace it with all manner of different devices but nothing comes close. I want my Pyra. So glad there is so much movement happening on this project. So close but it seems so far. I will wait as long as it takes though.

Boing!

I'm also interested if the moulds now incorporate the pegs to hole the PCB sufficiently firmly in place, although unless azouls can confirm this, we'll need the case parts to arrive in Germany before we can be sure. And even then, I guess it could take a few revisions before the pegs are just right.
