Psx4gp2x Beta Testers Thread

I know, how many will be saying in ten - fifteen years time: "I want something that can emulate the psp, that had some cool stuff." Fact is almost all consoles have some cool/interesting games. Personally I just like gaming and emulation so I'm happy to turn to whatever. Gp2x is great. Psp is also great. Both have drawbacks and advantages, but combined...hey it's all good. ;)

On topic, has anyone else noticed how fast FF7 is in shop areas? Damn, it runs at almost double speed! :p Crazy! Once the next beta without the polygon bug is out I'll definitely make some more vids (in general).

Hah, be needing a frame-limiter in next beta, then. :p

just get it reflashed, gp2x.co.uk and gp2x.de should do it for free if you bought from them, gp2x.de will do it for anyone for like 10$.

It's *us* that are doing the overclocking :)

Out of interest, does it work the same with PSPs? Are some people able to push their PSPs further with that N64 emulator?

Yes, but battery life takes a much bigger hit.

I don't worry about battery life on my Psp, I have an internal extended battery that is 2600Mah which gives approximately 7 hours standard usage although I have never really counted the hours. It only cost $20 and is the same size as the normal Psp internal battery. I recommend it to everyone.

my gp2x is definatly getting worse battery life than my psp its like 2 1/2 hours to 4-6 and i'm using 2600 mAH energizers vs the 1800 mAH psp ones

sounds like your charger and/or batetrys suck, as stated before you get 5h+ with good batterys/chargers.

I think everyone that is getting 4-5 hours on the GP2X must be playing games without sound, with earphones, or the sound at real low volume.

I know If I play games with the sound at decent levels out of the speakers the battery life plummets to about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

the e^2 lithium disposible batteries last me 5-6 hours. My 15 min. rechargeables last aroun 4.5 hours (but charge in a mere 15 minutes).

Get better batteries :p

You must not be playing with sound out of the GP2X speakers then. I have the same 15 min rechargeables, two different sets, and they only last an hour or slightly more.

I use Energizer 2500mAh/ Duracell 2100mAh / SomeWeirdNeweggBrand 2300mAh with a Duracell 30 min. charger and they all get about (dead minimum) 1.5 to 4.5 hours, more often 3 to 3.5.

That's just videos, though.

Haven't run through batteries without videos for a while now, but I expect it lasts one hell of a lot longer... Anyway, a set of ten of those Newegg batteries cost about ten, which isn't too shabby at all. Apologies to foreign devils, since Newegg despises you with a hatred burning like the fires of a thousand suns.

I haven't used headphones for more than a minute to test the socket, always leave sound on (but not very loud), and regularly overclock, and I still get 4-5 hours from 2500mAh Energizers.

Edit: that's with a "1-hour charger" (which usually takes much longer than an hour, more like 2-3).

I just figured out what caused A LOT of games not to run at all, or crash mid-game. I also converted about 90% of the interpreter (psx cpu emulation) to ARM assembly. Everything it working smoothly. So an update is seems on it's way, but Unai and I will have to take a break at some point to release it. :)

So the next update will have a more (but how much Im not sure) speed and a lot more compatibility. :)

Will keep everyone posted. Thanks. :)

Cool. An update to my earlier testing:

First, FF8 fmvs have an occasional section where the video is all garbled up. Also, the game crashes for me everytime it loads the video where you meet Quistis the first time.

Ehrgeiz only shows the upper left corner of the screen, the rest is cut off.

You think those problems will be fixed with your new updates?

Also, I purchased a new 2GB SD card for $49.99 by Patriot last weekend at Fry's. It is 133x speed read, unlike my very slow Integral that came with the gp2x. I have noticed an improvement in perfomance of the emulator with the faster SD card. I guess it is because it can stream the .Bin file from the SD card at it's faster speed, upto 20 Mbps, I believe.

I also found another buffer overrun bug that might cause also other games to exit sudenly on the screen centerin funcionality for sreen blitting...

So more good news to come...

*gets excited* i love you guys for making this emulator. but dont release it too soon. my GP2X is broken and i dont want to miss out on the PSX fun :(

not sure if im going insane or not but im sure someone asked about Parasite Eve working on PSX4GP2X? i just tried it and it runs at 11fps in menu and 34fps in game. very playable. tested using NTSC .bin file.

pretty much the same rersult when i tested Parasite Eve 2

Does Castlevania SOTN work now? *crosses fingers*

Castlevania SOTN now looks fine, but still a it slow to be fully playable... but speed is continiusly increasing :p

The "problem" with castlevani is that even if it looks like a 2d game it is rendering backbroun and characters as poligonos.
