Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

The premade thing is interesting and relevant but, when are we going to get some updates @EvilDragon? :D
Isn't he taking some personal time this week (to work on replying to email and such)?

So August September for start of delivering of the pyra or production? Just wondering. Either way I can't wait any longer for this its tearing me up inside cause I want this so bad to be successful
If it is for delivery then ED will probably need to start things moving toward mass production before the end of July due to the lead times for some things. Since he only needs full funding from 100 or so of the preorders he can start work on the batch of 500 for August/September and the second batch can be ready a few weeks later (according to what he said). That would provide enough time for people to make unboxing and review videos before October, when future sales could suffer.

there is nothing unreasonable about waiting for production until July.

No argument about that. In order to make the 950 threshold in that timeframe we need to average about 4 units per day. So we are still on par. If we can get a view good videos out showcasing the capabilities of the Pyra then we should be able to break the barrier with ease.

Apologies if I come over too negative once in a while.I am a glass is half empty kind of guy and some days my pessimistic view boils over with frustration. That kind of happened yesterday when I saw the sales hit only 2 on a single day. I should stop following those numbers so closely.

“There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass! Who's been pinching my beer?
And at the other end of the bar the world is full of the other type of person, who has a broken glass, or a glass that has been carelessly knocked over (usually by one of the people calling for a larger glass) or who had no glass at all, because he was at the back of the crowd and had failed to catch the barman's eye.”

That's what I was wondering. Not in a rush for it right now. Have a lot of stuff going on this summer. Hopefully he starts in July

(The first time I tried to post this I had issues with the site, which leads me to believe that someone doesn't want this getting out.)

Maybe he is already starting, and the holiday/vacation is a cover story.

PYRAS START SHIPPING NEXT WEEK!

vcoleiro1: And again, #713 was after midnight, so only two in the past day, a new low..
Heh, Pandora took many years to reach, what, 2500, 2600 units? Pyra is doing very well actually :)
I have confidence that once the real units are out there, there will be lots more orders coming in.

i would guess the vacation is an important time for ED to get some rest, before the real craziness begins.

The man is married, give him some time for keeping it that way too. ;)

I wonder what EvilDragon's wife thinks of his minor celebrity status. Does she get a good laugh out of all of us crazed project fans? Did she lurk in the keyboard threads with a mixture of fascination and disgust? Is she ever annoyed if/when EvilDragon gets recognized by a crazed fan while going through a grocery store?

Spouses rarely share direct interests. My wife has no interest in electronics beyond, 'Name the item in this picture,' "free" advertising supported games. She has a good line for when I was using my Pandora though: "The Keebler elves called. They want their computer back."

I don't want my wife to have the same electronic interest as me. I've given her my whole life, but that's about it. I don't want to share my electronic toys with her. Good she she has no interest in them, or else I'd have nothing left.

My kids are taking over my stuff though...

If I have Kids, I'll start them off on what I did... This is a Timex Sinclair ZX81, good luck actually hitting a key with this lousy keyboard, also you need to hand code everything you want to use. Then Walk away laughing maniacally...

I'm actually really looking forward to teaching my kid BASIC, not sure they'll enjoy it though.

My kids, should I have some one day, shall have it better than me. I'd take away there toys and leave 'em with something like a rpi, some peripherals, a LFS CD and book, and a dictionary. Then I lock 'em in with the doorlock being accessable over eithernet. If they make it, I'll be proud. Otherwise I'll need to procreate anew.

Sounds like the nerd's version of throwing them into a wolf's pit and testing whether they are worthy.

Kids have M4d social engineering skillz. If that fails, they use the Russian method. (While Americans developed a pen that could write in space, Russians used a pencil; i.e. law of least resistance). So they'd climb out the window, go to the toilet, go to the fridge, grab some snacks, and get back into their room... and then... just to prove a point, unlock the door with the rPI...

Even better. I'd also like them for this. :)
