A pandora 2 would maybe have 2 analogue sticks instead of just nubs.This would negate the clamshell design though due to the sticks being raised.Maybe a small trackball to use as a mouse might work though.
Saber said:Everything that makes the Pandora what it is derives from what's inside the case, as long as you are still given the physical inputs to interact with it. The only things i've omitted are the extra SD slot and the second nub. It's also now thinner with less depth with a bit more length/width and a decrease in heft. The touchscreen is now easier to use, the darn thing will be easier to hold, the shoulder buttons would likely be more accessible, rather than an afterthought, and it will fit into a pocket with less effort due to the reduction in volume. Producing and assembling them will also be streamlined.
Different is not always bad. Besides I did state that I think the original Pandora could still be made along with this one. If anything, I would revise my earlier specs to include a screen size no bigger than 4.5". Bigger than that and we cross into the unpocketable range.
this is why P2 will have a microsdhc slot underneath the battery to hold as many OS as you want, making one sdxc slot plenty to use apps, games, roms, and in some instances, pornSaber said:Everything that makes the Pandora what it is derives from what's inside the case, as long as you are still given the physical inputs to interact with it. ^^ Well the Extra SD slot is important for me, I generally dabble in alternate operating systems that run off SD cards.. I need the other SD free to hold the Games, data and such.... I've stated my opinion on the importance of the second Nub already.
That is a really great idea.this is why P2 will have a microsdhc slot underneath the battery to hold as many OS as you want, making one sdxc slot plenty to use apps, games, roms, and in some instances, porn

Anything that adds to increased market saturation. h34r:That is a really great idea.this is why P2 will have a microsdhc slot underneath the battery to hold as many OS as you want, making one sdxc slot plenty to use apps, games, roms, and in some instances, porn
For sure, there should always be more room for porn..
My thoughts for the hardware:
1. PSP-esque design: easier and cheaper to manufacture and hold. Probably more mass marketable.
I'm not asking anyone to create anything for me. I have put forth multiple reasons on why I think the slate form is sound. The PSP has undeniably a demonstrable design that is both comfortable to hold and use. I feel the same about the iPad and so do many successful companies out there that have brought their own take of the tablet form to the public. I am particularly fond of the Nokia N900 slider, but Openpandora has already said that the idea is not an option because it is patented.You're asking engineers to put in 100's of hours so that you personally can enjoy a PSP clone?
What's the point? Just buy a PSP.
If imitating successful designs is going to be the plan, might as well make an iPad clone.
There has to be a very good reason to put forth all that effort.
BTW, in the engineering biz, people identify "use cases" to justify new designs, meaning specific ways that a design will be used in the real world. Use cases are not invented excuses, they have to identify value.
If there's no use case, no action should be taken.
Double-barrel hinges don't seem to be patented;

The screen can fold 360deg, with the game controls accessible with your fingers (scrolling etc), and the touchscreen accessible with your thumbs.
- Very few features dropped.
- massive improvement in touchscreen access
- camera can face both ways, and is protected in your pocket.
- Would make android (+Apps) more useable
- more buttons!

I would have some of the stuff on the backside of the system but overall I like that design!
It still keeps the Pandora likeness but adds alot of new cool stuff ^_^
Not much really I guess that there is a camera on the backside to?Double-barrel hinges don't seem to be patented;

I was only putting (only) the SD slots on the side because they are displaced by the speakers, which have to be on the front to avoid be muffled by the user's hands.
USB, power in etc are facing backwards as per the P1, but the hinge means that there is little room for sockets. I don't thing there is room to put TV out and USB host on the same hinge-shoulder button space, so they are on opposite side.
What would you change? <_<
Why bother, just rotate the screen round to touch-centric mode, and the camera faces outwards!Not much really I guess that there is a camera on the backside to?

Yes i quite like the design too.Depends how strong that rotating hinge is and if it can be done hardware wise but its the best potential P2 design ive seen so far.Double-barrel hinges don't seem to be patented;

Binky, that's great.
This is the first Pandora 2 concept I would agree with (the ankle of the old one looks still better) andI don't know whether there's enough space inside the Pandora to place the speakers on the bottom.
But all in all it's a solid concept.

I think Openpandora thought before of doing that, where the screen swivels around and folds back onto the controls for touchscreen use, but they ran into a problem with the LCD cable not being long enough or robust enough to handle it. There was also the issue of not being able to access the game controls and keyboard while in that mode. I wonder if some screen bezel could be added for maybe one of the nubs and some face buttons to simulate the buttons on a mouse. It would make web searching work well in that mode. The speakers location and the bigger screen are a big plus.Why bother, just rotate the screen round to touch-centric mode, and the camera faces outwards!Not much really I guess that there is a camera on the backside to?
A camera on the outside of the case would get damaged easily.
