Playing with Play-Doh


from what i can mathematically interpret from you, @levi, we have the formula:

1 + (1/2 + (1/4 + ...))

where the first 1 is the time it takes to do the first 80% of the work, and the (1/2 + ...) is the time it takes to do the last 20% of the work, which is simply equal to 1. this is just simply saying that it takes 2 times the amount of time required to do the first 80% of the work.

when was 80% of the work completed :D?
 
Being no good with such things myself, it seems to me that what levi was saying is that as the project gets further along less stuff takes longer to get done, and as there is less to do those things continue to take longer, never actually reaching a point of completion. I prefer the 80-80 version. Edit: Or 90-90.
 
You sure? That sounds backwards. Shouldn't it be more like tightening the last screw takes infinitely long? I am cool with having a few screws loose as long as everything else is good. ;)
 
Nah, tightening those srews takes as long as it takes. It's just the observer falling into the rabbit-hole.
 
There is a saying in my company:
At the project end, 90% of our projects are 80% finished. xD

It's the old 80-20 rule in recursion. The final 20% of any project takes as long as the first 80% of it, and of that 20%, 20% of it takes as long as the rest of it, and of that, 20% of it takes as long as the rest, and so on.
Sounds like the way governments work.

Well, as everybody was making fun of me using Play-Doh and I had to do it again today, I took some pictures.
Here are some nice examples :)

1. Question: How much space it between the USB Ports and the case?

When the PCB is put into the case, you have no way of measuring that.
Thus, you use Play-Doh!

First, put some into of that stuff into the case.

Then, put together the Pyra.

Next, disassemble everything.
You can clearly see the USB ports in the Play-Doh!

Use a proper measurement tool to measure the distance from the bottom to the USB port.

So it's about 5,5mm from the bottom of the case to the USB port.
Actually, Play-Doh is so soft, you can easily stick the measurement tool directly through it!

You can see that here on the right port:

As Play-Doh isn't sticky, you can easily remove it without any issues.

2. How thick need the heating pad be between the OMAP5 and the PCB?

Again, that's an area you can impossible measure when it's assembled!

So let's start again:

Which then looks like that:

Remove one edge so you can properly measure the thickness of the OMAP5:

Aaand the result of the measurement is that there's 0,1 - 0,2mm space between the PCB and the OMAP.

Which means I'll probably use a 0,3mm thick heat pad (as they squeeze together a bit as well).

Play-Doh is useful...

... well, unless you put it on the SD-Card slots, as you need to open them to remove it again :D
(I measured the distance from the SD-Cards to the case here).
