Keep cool!

well i think they'll make the production boards with the new layout anyways? or maybe i missed something...

With no i mean, the cpu boards have not been ordered yet. They are only "ready for mass production".

Are there any lingering issues/concerns then that are preventing 25+/- of these getting ordered to do a final pre-production prototype run on? The idea of having a major board revision go directly into 'mass production' makes me nervous.

Same here. In fact, if possible, I think a full set of tests should be run on the final pre-prod prototype, in order to:
  1. Ensure there aren't any issues that were missed and might cause a post-production disaster, and
  2. Give potential buyers an exact idea (represented in hard numbers) of the product that they're buying. I think there's immense value in releasing test results from a release candidate (final pre-prod) prototype. These tests could include some generic CPU and GPU benchmarks, DAC and amp measurements, RAM tests, a full set of disk benchmarks on the eMMC, etc. NotebookCheck does a pretty good job of this in their reviews, it would be a valuable resource if ED's interested in doing something like this.

Potentially, a number of those stats are hard to get at this stage, some even until years after initial release. The standby time of my Pandora for example improved massively around a year ago when Notaz got some time and spent it analysing idle power consumption. Granted, for the first few years I had my Pandora I needed to charge it every night, so there's value in that initial stat. But you don't even get that initial stat until the prototype devs have fiddled with the timings of chips and so on, so potentially you don't get initial numbers until the day the first unit ships, and they could still improve.

Stats would still be interesting, and if they were updated as things improved that would give us something to look at, but those do take time to perform so might interfere with other work being done. It might be nice if one of those with prototypes and a bit of free time came up with a script that could automate a lot of this stuff though.

I figure I'll use it mostly like a beeper (pager) from the 90's. Tell everyone to just text me, and if voice call is required text me their number and I will whip out the headset and call them.
I really love this idea. I think I might do the same. Instead of using Majel Barrett to inform me when I have a new message, maybe I could go with the classic beeps.

:D i joke i joke i kid i kid

I hope you're just being lazy with capitalisation there, and really mean 10MB/s, because 10Mb/s is about 1.25MB/s, and technically even with lower case m meaning milli rather than mega, 10mb/s would be about 0.000001164B/s (or a full byte every 10 days) ;)

But 10MB/s beats the drive I'm running this OS out of, so I hope it's that after all.

you maybe just trolling, but it looks like you omitted the word "slower" in your quote. Which would make your post not funny at all.

So, what known annoyances are left on the 2gb version according to ED? If I recall correctly, ED wasn't totally happy with some physical tolerances for shoulder buttons and thought the case and passive cooling were not final; I read that there were still some relatively minor non-electronic improvements to be implemented by the manufacturer.

It wasn't the 2GB version, but the 4GB. Issues with clocking on 4GB chip (would be a bug/instability, rather than annoyance), which one (or two?) devs are in the process of working on (ED had to ship units out to them). Can't remember off the top of my head as to whether it's a hardware or software issue.

I understood that, and miscommunicated my implication that I could not think of any known issues with the 2gb version.

Wow. Great to all the updates that continue to happen ...

Really glad I didnt pre-order it a while ago when that opened up. Ill have happy to throw down my money when its ready to be shipped though. Hope my Pyra dream comes true in 2018 now I guess.

Maybe for Christmas this year...?! ╰(*´︶`*)╯

For me it will be ready when its ready, the preorder os my support for that, and i do not plan to get a refund unless the project is announced as a failure, and with all the progress they have made i see that is very unlikely

You will not get any money back if that happens.
