Ok i got a gp2x f100 yesterday and i've to say that its one of the most terrible console i've ever had.
I really regret of having buying it. Maybe i will sell it instead of having it taking dust on my desk...
Why? first i did pay 40 euros of shipping + 53 euros of customs fees + 140 euros the gp2x (ok that's a personal experience...). At this price i expected much from this. but i'm totally disappointed...
if only i've read this before buying it :
http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Current_GP2X_Issues
My device has almost every problem listed there
what really pisses me off first is that the hardware is cheap and terrible (although the design is stylish imo)
-my screen has horizontal lines (not the damn diagonal lines that can be corrected with cpu lcd tweak) when i move the console a little (i read some people are having this problem too but still no solution).
-In my opinion the joystick sucks, and it's really a shame to have to put a piece of paper to make it work better.
I tried to open it but couldn't (seems like removing the 4 screws is not enough, i know i suck but there aren't any tutorials on how to open it)
moreover usb was not working with my windows xp comp at first. I had to use usbmon then it worked
The first impression was very bad...
I know that there are some users with the perfect gp2x, joystick mod, no dead pixels, no lines etc...
but there's too much randomness when you buy a gp2x...
For a gaming system having such problems is not normal in my point of view. You can't really enjoy it just when you have it for the first time (there are too many tweaks, problems, tips to be aware of...).
when you first have it:
how do you know that you need to use open2x to have faster boot. how do you know that some apps aren't compatible with FW1.4. how do you know you have to use selector with some apps. etc...
meaning that if you don't have time to search through the internet for hours you're screwed. (thanks god i've unlimited internet access too)
One of the advantages of the gp2x that maked me buy it : emulators
without emulators it's really not worth it...(I really like the neo geo emulator). But not ALL emulators work great...
Other good thing is the video playback without converting your videos (although i've lines when the video gets dark and that it crashes sometimes)
now when i think better why did i buy it? i already have a NDS,PSP,GBA,Wonderswan, pcengine etc...
mainly because people don't speak a lot about its problems (they focus more on what it can do etc..) and that i thought it was the system of my dream!! but i was wrong.
if you love to tweak your console , flash the firmwares and play with the hardware hacks this system is for you, but if you just want to play the emulators out of the box and think that they all work perfect, think carefully before buying it (its definately not for the end user).
otherwise without its hardware flaws this system is really good.
