I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

I just realized my GP2X didn't come with a CD, with the dev stuff on it. Did GPH stop providing CDs with the unit? Did anyone else get a GP2X without the CD?

It's not really a big deal, but it would have been nice to get the CD as well. Can all the dev software originally provided by GPH be downloaded?

Got my GP2X today (complete with Firmware 2.0.0 upgrade) and have to admit that it's a stunning piece of kit - exactly what I've been after for many years. I was tempted by the GP32 a while back, but didn't bother.

The best thing for me has to be the emulation - I used to own both an Atari ST and Lynx, so along with MAME I'm in complete retro gaming heaven !!! As many people have mentioned, the joystick leaves a lot to be desired, so will probably pick up a replacement cap sometime soon.

I think that my 1gb card will quickly fill up :)

Hey,

I just bought a GP2X from ebay (old model) and I have a quick question about the power supply adaptor.

Do you have to buy Gameparks one or can you use one of your own providing it has the right voltage on it (I have one with a voltage switch you see)

cheers!

You could use a universal/multi adaptor if you want (which is what i use), As long as it meets the above.

Cheers I do have one kicking about, it's just I don't wanna risk updating the firmware with batteries!

ordered a 2GB SD card last night, some 2500mAh AA's and a good charger, usb card reader.. now I'm just waiting for one of the stores to say that definately have MK2's in stock!!! gp2x.co.uk says theirs are on the way, Lik-sang and play-asia just say May

So far the best price I've found is Play-asia which has GP2X MK2, screen protector, case, tv-out adapter, and A/C adapter plus shipping to AUS for AUD$300 :)

RedRain85 - I'm afraid this is why the MK1 isn't better than the latest releases.

It may be in some areas. The screen is nicer on the MK1s but the stick isn't quite as good because of the diagonal bias.

DaveC am I right in thinking then that the MK2 does not need a replacement cap?

Also when you say the MK1 screen is better.. is that because of the viewing angles? I heard that the MK2 screen is non-interlaced and sharper than the older one (which might be nicer or not depending on what you've gotten used to I suppose)

I think he's guessing based off one post from Craigix's first impressions thread.
The screen is sharp but I'd kinda got used to the old one, it had a nice effect of smoothing the images - stuff now looks pixelated again, took a whlie to get used to. The viewing angle isn't as good (ie if you tilt it too far the image fades away.).

Then later, in another thread,
I like the new screen now, it took some getting used to the GP32 BLU style screen again, the black and other dark colours seem a lot more dark on it and the light colours a lot more light. I'm sure daveC will have an opinion on this.

So... if that's the only reason the screen isn't supposed to be as nice it isn't much to complain about. Sounds more like it's different, not worse. It'll be nice to get some more informed opinions from people who actually have both models to compare.

sounds good. all i'm waiting for now is the release :) then i'll be ordering the unit, screen protector, tv-out adapter, a/c adapter and carry case -> Happy Days!!

Well my GP2X came today and I don't have to worry about flashing the firmware it's already been updated by the seller on ebay!

BUT I have that horrible problem with the sound not cutting out on the speakers when you insert the headphones and the software to correct it doesn't work on the latest firmware aggh! I was gonna use it to watch something at work tommorrow during my lunch hour!

Hi All, Seems like a great community here. :) Got my GP2X a couple of days ago. OK- The stick aint great, but who cares! It works fine with C64 and Speccy games from my youth! (quite a long time ago now 'sniff' ) Looking forward to seeing what this baby is capable of over the next few months, it has some great support from some very talented programmers. I also have a PSP, sure they will both be able to get along. Got fed-up with Sonys attempts to stop us homebrewing, so PSP for commercial and GP2X for Homebrew. .

Great Service from GP2x.co.uk, Next day Special Delivery. If your interested. :p

im just laughing the way you said

"Got my GP2X a couple of days ago. OK- The stick aint great, but who cares!"

I just cant wait to get my hands on my gp2x

OK, I got mine about a month ago but only just registered on the board. Here's the long story:
I drink a lot of Coke, and the've started a promotion where caps that have codes on them can be entered online for "points". You can then redeem your points for prizes. I've never taken part in these types of promotions before, but one of the prizes is a PSP. I didn't want a PSP bad enough to actually buy it, but I figured that if I could get some of the people at work to help out I may be able to get one free.

The number of points needed is the equivalent of 480 20oz bottles of pop, and after a month of saving points I realized that it would be 4-6 months before I had enough points. I then saw the GP2X mentioned on the arcadecontrols.com website (for making your own MAME arcade machine - I've made 5 to date) and thought I'd check it out. After finding this board and reading posts I decided that unlike the PSP, I would gladly pay for a GP2X.

I ordered the GP2X, case and replacement cap from GP32Z.com. Quick shipping and nice packing job - I couldn't have been happier with the service.

After feeling a little guilty for spending money on the GP2X, I didn't order an SD card or batteries. When it arrived, I used the included batteries and the only SD card I had which was from my camera. I first looked at the pictures that were on the card, and then downloaded a couple games. By the time the alkalines died I had already ordered a 4gig card and batteries/charger.

My final opinion is that this thing rocks! My only complaint is the usual "the stick sucks", as it can be hard to control games at times. I also don't care for the GP2X brand case, as it's not big enough to hold a spare set of batteries and even my card reader has to be adjusted before closing the case so it doesn't mash against the stick. I would recommend people buy some other kind of case, I'll be looking for one soon.

Oh, and I'm still going for the PSP, and after 2 months I'm half way there. If anyone wants to email me the codes form thier Coke caps or 12 packs of cans I'd appreciate it! The fine print says they may ask for proof, as in the actual caps - but since I already tossed about 30 before reading that I hope they don't!

This guy lives down the street from me and his son's aunt works at some recycling facility so his son got all the prizes from that mountain dew cap points thing. He got a TV, a few Mountain Dew Xboxes and some other random crap.

Paladin does your 4GB card work fine with your GP2X? I heard a lot of reports that they're fairly incompatible with a lot of devices.

I got the Trancend 4gig from newegg, and so far it works fine. I've loaded games and video on it with no problems. I used a card reader and Win XP to format it.

I didn't want to delete everything off it to do the 2.0 firmware upgrade, so I used my cameras San Disk card for that.
