It looks nice. Very nice even but if all it does is what the GP32 can do but a little better then it will ultimately not live up to the potential it could have had.

I personally feel for any new GP to do really well it needs to be able to do all the GP32 can do and more. Not just the same but better.

For example will it be able to manage N64 and PSP emulation. If the answer is yes then it will be a major hit if the answer is no then even though most of us will probably get one it will still ultimately have failed to be what it could have been by being able to emulate the next generation of consoles up from the Genesis and SNES.

PSP emulation? You are joking right???

LOL I meant PSX

PSX.jpg

PSX?

jup, that is the psx (very cool :D build in hd for video recording), but most of the time when people say psx they mean the ps1

It (PS) was called PSX in its prototype stage. Sony calls Playstation PSOne nowadays, but they are bloody fools.

Please, anyone wishing to post in here, reply to this post, let's twist the fabric of the forum...

Will dickfists stop clogging up this thread with embedded quotes with huge images please?

What did you say?

Haha nice one.

I'm pretty sure you got threatened with a ban the other day, and I wasn't particularly bothered then, but I hope you get banned for that.

edit: fuck sake Hanz.

Will a moderator please clean up this thread? I dare say it's one of the most important threads we've had here in a good while, and it doesn't need ruining by a bunch of clowns. I suppose ideally embedded quotes would be disabled and quotes of images would link to the image rather than displaying them.

Sorry LHC it was just a joke. I took in what you said.

About the linux being an overhead, actually I don't think they mean a full blown WIMP front end, but probably just a cut down linux core, and probably not in background, more like launchable, with the possibility of running apps off the SMC.

If it's backward compatible, I rekon the GP32 firmware and chipset will be built into the system as well, so you can probably set it to run as a GP32. Two downfalls I can think of already:

1. Accessing the screen will probably have the same style glitches as we have seen with the BLU+

2. Accessing the memory cards, Apps that directly address these cards may have the odd problems too being that the media is probably different.

But as we all know, these will be minor problems that will be sorted out with Emu and homebrew updates.

We're also forgetting something, being they are still ARM CPU's, I guess porting the games and Emus from the GP32 to Native GPX2 code would be an even more inviting option, this could take advantage of the extra nifty hardware such as the graphics CPU!!!!

Okay, I won't do it anymore.
But it was irresistable. :p

2 * 250MHz?

Bah!

Is that a choice by design, or to keep prices down or which.. but with XScales being commonly available at 400 and 600Mz, its a shame to be stuck with 250MHz (even if times 2).

ie:

It means a lot of careful code writing to take advantage of both CPUs, no easy ports like we're used to. (GP32 is quite easy to port to normally). 500MHz alone is enough for SNES if careful, but of course you want more now.. 600MHz barely does PSX halfway well on PoPC so 500MHz split up likely wouldn't do it well.

Why no GPU? :(

I was rather hoping this woudl be 400MHz and with simple GPU -- 400MHz being enough for most common straight 2d emulation needs; a GPU for 2d blitting and basic 3D.

So hmm...

As is, it could make for some nicer emus, but not by all that much I imagine. Certainly it'd be good for portable video and such, but is that enough to carry it?

Hmm..

Whose going to buy? :)

I've been debating a Nintendo DS to screw with the GPU, and for Bubble Bobble DS (upcoming); avoiding PSP since Sony are asswads (and the OS patching bidniz..) -- but is this enough to warran the jump?

Course, coding for dual processors could be fun :)

I'm a bit in the dark here.

I read on the specs for this machine that it's not DUAL CPU, but two Dual core CPU's.

So you got a Dual core CPU as the main CPU and also another Dual core CPU as a GPU. Which in real terms makes 4 CPU's.

Did I read it wrong or is that correct?

That can't be right.

well going by gbaxs reduced gp32s to 95 quid, i dont recon itll be much more then that .
They must have reduced it because once the price is announced they probably wont sell many more

Engrish, I'd assume.

I still want to know the Price and where the buy button is....
but it would be better to know a few answers about the internals
like linux core
backward compat
gp32 emulation anyone?

Definition of Dual Core CPU:
A Dual-core CPU combines two independent processors and their respective caches and cache controllers onto a single silicon die, or integrated circuit.

Gpx2 CPU specs
Dual CPU Cores
ARM920T : Host processor
ARM940T : Video Coprocessor

Not sure if that means the ARM920T and the ARM940T are actually in one package.

It certainly reads to me like the two processors are embedded on one chip.

Yeah, but those 2 processors aren't dual core chips.

I just had alook and ARM's website, and they are each a single core of one package.

So we got one package with 2 CPU's one of which is dedicated to the graphics engine.
