Fishynes 0.01a

I dont mean to veer this thread off in another direction, but what happened to Squidge and squidgesnes? I was really looking foward to that :(

Fishynes seemed to be coming along nicely. I do hope he continues :)

SquidgeSNES has come along in leaps and bounds :) It took a rest at 0.35 however, and now Reesy is in on the action trying to speed it up further.

Hows FishyNES at the moment anyway? Anyone care to name the good and bad parts of it? I'm assuming it'll run most, if not all, nes stuff at full speed, so guessing it's just compatibility problems?

Just about everything runs at 60 fps+ with just a little overclocking. There are compatibility issues, as a number of games run with some errors (mainly on the status bar), and a smaller number of games run with more serious errors. The emu could also use a few more features, such as save states, or tvout.

Good speed, good compatibility (I think it will even play Simon's Quest!). The only thing I'm waiting on is save states, since A lot of the best NES games were too long to play in one set of batteries. :)

Yes with an over clock script I can play everything at full speed. When I overclock to 233 it's more than enough. Anything else tends to have the games run to fast since there's no fps limit. The only game I have a problem with is Castlevania III. It's probably because I just have a bad rom. I should try to get a different one. I think this is a great emu but wish there would be an update sometime in the future.

I have black bars at the side of the screen when playing the games. Is this a PAL NTSC issue or is that just the way things are?

I hope not. I really want to play Bart vs. the Space Mutants on my GP2X, but at the minute it loads but all of the menu on the bottom part of the screen is corrupted. I'd also love to be able to play Elite, but that is having the same problems as occurs in most emulators. The only emulator I know Elite works in is nestopia.

Can anybody tell me what the batterylife of this emu is when you play games at fullspeed?

if fishybawb isn't working on this anymore could someone get the source from him and continue it? this really was a great start to a nintendo emulator. with a little more speed, better compatability with certain games like river city ransom, and save states it would be perfect.

I've been trying to be patient with fishynes, though I'm not sure what to think now. Going back through the thread, a new release seemed imminent at the end of march, with the source probably coming soon after, but here we are two months later. Just hope fishy is doing well and I'll keep my fingers crossed that we'll hear something soon. :)

Well, according to his profile, he last visited the boards 29th April 2006 - 10:29 PM.
That's quite a while ago... let's hope he's fine!

Was just checking the File Archive today and I noticed another new NES emulator GPFCE (http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,5,1529). Its actually bloody great - save states and everything!

Lacks the charm of FishyNES but runs at a smooth 60 fps. Only problem is the sound is a touch off but this will hopefully be sorted soon. Top stuff! Amazed nobody else has posted about it yet but it only came out today I guess.
