Firmware 1.2.0

Upgrade went smooth on a Lexar 512M SD card, had to futz around a bit to get it formatted properly in OSX, but following the directions on the Wiki worked ..

Nice to have a few annoying bug fixes addressed .. have to train myself not to select "NAND" now, lol .. and the picture viewer seems much more solid and usable for me now .. just copied 500 pics on to an SD card to test it, and it looks like its very usable now .. not a single crash, and a lot of the pics are useful now that i can zoom and rotate and whatnot fairly easily ..

Don't have a TV out cable yet, so I don't know about that feature, but all in all, seems like this update went pretty smooth .. i guess i'll have to do the same thing again when i get my second GP2x next week, woot! ;)

(the girl wants a spare one for home, so she can play impossible mission while i hack code on the other one, heh heh..)

Great!

It updated fine but now won't read my only SD card.

So. How long till the next update do you think?

ACTUALLY! Wait. I didn't use the gpu patch. so does that mean I can downgrade?

Hmmm, a mixed bag of nuts. Think I'll wait before upgrading. Specially since my serial adaptor no longer works.

No longer reading certain SD cards is worrying.

Phil: If you didn't apply the gpu, you should be able to downgrade by just using a kernel from a previous update.

Everything here works great with an Intergral 1GB.

Phil: Maybe since you didnt apply the patch it wont read your card? Or is that only firmware related?

not possible, how can you apply the patch if you can't read your sd card?

just seems that certain cards can't be read after the upgrade. at least it's not too much of a problem, people can simply flash back to 1.1.0 and wait till a more compatible fw comes along

The SD code in the kernel HAS changed and is VERY dodgy IMHO. Maybe they built an old version.

Copied from my log.

Warnings: (Please read this bit)

* The new SD code may cause BIG problems. Look at this debug output below (bold added for interest) from a card that has worked well with all previous firmwares (one that won't support flash upgrades but thats beside the point) I have other cards with the same errors, 3 (4 now) so far out of my 9 now don't mount at all, another 2 don't mount all the time, re-inserting the card helps sometimes. These all used to work fine.

Some SD's only work sometimes, some fail all together :D. It is possable to update the NAND with an SD that works, then fails, then works etc. etc. ;).

The firmware update notes said TV-OUT support for emulators but there may be some glitches if you don't use the specific SDL from GPH. So in other words it will work but may not look great. Has anyone just tried this out for shi$% and giggles? If so, what does it look like or the better question would be, did it even work? <_<

I think I'll wait or possibly skip this update. I only have one SD card and I can't afford another right now if it's stops working <_<

Flashed the kernel and my SanDisk512MB barely works now. The Kingston SD isn't working at all. Tried to update aplications anyway but failed due to my mistake (I didn't unpacked the gp2xpatch-1.2.0.tar.gz file). The patcher should have be able to check if needed files are intact but no. It just crapped file system instead (how unexpected hehe).

Unbricked and I will stay at 1.1.0.

There should be option when booting to have a console output in lcd screeen. The updaters should have a progress bar too. AND there should be option to boot os directly from SD card. It would make many things much, much easier.

Imho the internal NAND memory is only causing more problems than it is worth. It would be better to have just a second SD socket.

Should we add a section to the wiki with confirmed working and not working cards on the new firmware?

GPH is such a joke.

TV-Out still does not work at all apart from movies. My 1GB SD Toshiba/Kingston card is now not working but my 2GB card is, I will install 1.10 back later.
As far as I can see this update does nothing that it is supposed to do NAND and SD card option has not changes around. Useless.

On a better not and a little offtopic new version of Gp2xengine Rocks :D

Wow, this just reminds me of the BLU+, that is, release something that everyone is waiting for, and it breaks everything.

And not counting the fact that people are having problems with their SD cards now, but how about addressing more important issues? I know some people are happy with the pic viewer updates, but this has to be the least exciting thing for me. How about the interlacing issue? Or SD card compatiblility, or the spontaneous bricking problems, or battery life? I'd rather have a lot of other things fixed before updating the pic viewer. I'll stay away from this FW until everything is ironed out.

Does GPH actually just test their FW on one type of SD card? I'm starting to think they do.

Not going to update this one. Even though I have 3 different brand SD cards, I still don't want to chance it.
