Finding a proper name and logo :)

Beeblebox, a slight alteration of Beeblebrox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaphod_Beeblebrox

Include the missing R in the logo :)

Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is pretty popular among the 'geeks' and beeblebox is very easy to remember .

I don't like ¨dragonbox beeblebox", but beeblebox on its own sounds okay to me.

We should use the dragon from Archon (south of the witch/dark queen)

and SNESFANS logo already looks like him, the wings have to be removed though:

To what it does "The Towel" is really great idea!

beeblebox is not bad also...

HHGG has tons of names that can be used.  Choose your favorite :)

I thought beeblebox just sounded nice, easy to remember and  .org .de are available.

Since this is going on a clam-shell lid, something to keep in mind is that it's going to get viewed upside-down.

If it is 'right side up' to the person opening the lid to use the device, then it will be 'upside down' to any passers by who see it from behind. The reverse is also true.

Does the logo need some form of vertical symmetry? Or do we default to one perspective or the other?
What about a logo that isn't vertical symmetric, but nervertheless can be looked upon from both sides?

-Like those optical illusions where a hill becomes a crater?

-or those happy/unhapy faces, or woman/ men, old young..

Adding the version made yesterday up for consideration.

Established logos work on the already established complexity onto what becomes established. In their developed form they are mindless, which would not work without the education that goes along with it. There is also another side to it.

Rather than subliminal connection, its about emotional attachment. Good game imagery to me is magic. Reference the psygnosis or n64 logo against the wii and current design language.

Good on sales value is not the same as good imagery for me, it has to have a deeper meaning. Culture isnt about money, its about roots, some going long back. In remembering, we cherish what stands the test of time. What is ours.

Just like there arent parts left that arent integral to take away(edit: i was wrong here), some thought has also gone into boiling it down without loosing character.

I was hoping someone would ask, but i have no intention in hiding it.

The different variations are: 1. Middle eye/nub alone. 2 Logofont. 3. Double loop de loop.

Starting with 3 and 2 together, then only 3, then  only 2, then 1.

Thats mainly why there is an eye in the middle of the double loop/möebios, to get a visual connection between the two. The name isn't up for vote, so that connection is lost.

The one using Binky's letter shape for Pyragon works both upright and upside down, if the rest of letters were less predominant to the left side edge line of each letter;

...As a nice touch, could perhaps cut the speaker vents into the same cut shapes :)

As does the other cube based one someone posted up near start of the thread, a little bit like the Gamecube logo but not too much that it would be considered a bite I don't reckon. That one I think is nice for a lot of reasons;

Is box based

Would work well embossed

Simple geometry

Works both upright and upside down

Works as single colour

Works well scaled down

That one was one of my personal favs so far

Edit: ...Faeminx one here is what I'm referring to; http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/14915-finding-a-proper-name-and-logo/page-9#entry290676/URL]

I also quite liked the name AINO, as it means 'the only one' in Finnish.

Pretty much sums up the device, as the one one thing you'd need...

But Sony already used this name on a device when I looked into it, which is a shame

Also thought about;

OP:N

OEP-N

Just being a play on the word open. Not sure it would be read as that though, especially in many languages

That hadn't actually occurred to me ... Your maths is too advanced, I guess it was a bad choice :)

As DragonBox seems to be winning in the poll at the moment, that makes the interesting proposition that the company and device carry the same name. Kind of like a band having a self-titled album - it shows up in the play list as Name by Name.

So, if it's to be the DragonBox console by the DragonBox company run by EvilDragon and that people like to shorten things down to acronyms then try to pronounce them...

The DB db by ED. The deebee-deebee-byeeedee.

The DBdb. The deebee-deebee.

The EDDBdb. The eeedee-deebee-deebee.

So - I think that having the company name and device name the same is fine. However, at that point, the device needs a model name as well. Having the model name follow some form of convention helps in naming successors - even if it's 1, 2, 3, ... or I, II, III, IV, V, ... or something more obscure like the Greek Mythology (Pandora), Sea Monsters (Kraken, Tiamat), colors, expressive taxidermy animals (Jaunty Jackalope), or sweets (Ice Creem Sandwich, Kit Kat).

So... we probably have consensus that the device line should be called, 'DragonBox' or 'DragonBoxes' someday 5 years from now when the successor's successor comes out and more than one kind becomes a reality. But what should THIS one's model name be?

DB ending in a heart shape, or smiling eyes and mouth.

If someone wants to expand the idea (FZERO ?).

Well... technically the word is "ainoa". "Aino" is a woman's name :) . But finnish is malleable like that, so for example "ainokainen" would be a "cuter" version of "the only one", also used as the translation for "singleton". Also in lyrical context one could use "aino" as an abbreviated "ainoa".
