Commercial Games

If you want to get commercial on the pandora they should try to be more like Zeebo by trying to well in developing emerging countries.

The Zeebo is getting games Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco, Capcom, Sega and id Software.

Regarding Fallout 1 & 2, there is a project called FIFE which was originally supposed to be an open source engine for these games. It reached a status where it could run maps of the games but there were obstacles that prevented further progress so they moved the project into the direction of a general purpose 2D game engine. Maybe they could get Fallout 1 & 2 running if somebody solved licensing issues etc. for them.

Cooperation with GoG sounds like a great idea. This can happen on multiple levels. On the lowest level, they'd simply sell us the data files for the open source engines we already have ports of (id games, Descent, ScummVM games...). If that is successful, the Pandora team/community could then work with them actively to make more game engines open source or at least license them for Linux/Pandora ports.

Mafia would be an awesome game to get a port of.
American McGee's Alice could be great as well.
I'm not sure if Psychonauts could be made to run but if it's possible then yes please! :D

parag0n mentioned Re-Volt. That was a great little racer! Trackmania might be an interesting option as well, although the DS already got a very good port of that. In the end, we do need some good racing game. There should be more that are great fun and not totally unrealistic to get ported/licensed but I can't think of any at the moment...

Neverwinter Nights might be a good option as it might be possible to continue from the failed Zodiac project. At least, licensing it should be a possibility.

One thing I missed on the GP2X (and Zodiac) was the ability to buy the old games that were already ported in a readily packaged version. Sure, people can get an old Transport Tycoon disc on ebay and then merge that with OTTD by hand but wouldn't it be awesome if you could acquire the license to sell the game as a working .pnd?

some/all Games from him are very good and very good programmed. Maybe it is possible to ask him,Craig.

Gravitron and both Prototype shumps are really good.
I was just looking at his stuff a few days ago. Looks rather nice. Do any of his games rely on windows only items, like DirectX?

How about Supreme Snowboarding/Boarder Zone? The PC version had fairly low minimum requirements (300MHz PII, 32MB RAM, 3D acceleration -- OpenGL was supported), and had some staggering graphics for its time. It was published by Infogrames, so Atari should have control of it now...I think.
(Screenshots and Videos)

Or perhaps securing the recent (non-3D-remake) PS2 Sega Ages 2500 titles? Despite being Japanese-only releases, they include English-language versions of each game (when available), an English menu and even English instruction manual scans. But why not just play the same games on an emulator? Well...

-All titles include bonus content -- some combination of arranged soundtracks, superplay videos, playable beta versions, debug modes, network play, early-stage concept art and planning documents.

-Saturn and Model 2 ports would run flawlessly, which would be a hefty task to do via emulation.

-Older titles (which are emulated) have useful, game-specific emulator features -- for instance, in Phantasy Star, the new options include a run button, increased walking speed, and increased EXP/money gain.

-Some games have been given major overhauls, including Galaxy Force II, the Tengen NES version of Fantasy Zone, and SMS Fantasy Zone II (redesigned for System 16C hardware). Dynamite Deka received a major graphical facelift; Virtual On and Advanced Daisenryaku have improved AI.

Anyway, none of those older Sega games really have much killer-app potential, and they don't exactly showcase the power of the hardware (excluding the revamped NiGHTS -- not an Ages title, though -- and Dynamite Deka), so maybe not the best option.

Last thought: Win95/98 Sierra games (besides Half-Life and the related). Hoyle Casino, Civil War Generals, Imperialism, Caesar, etc...

What would be cool is if the entire community created a game. We get a few heavy hitters obviously, but I am sure everyone in the community could provide assets. Textures/Sound Effects/ Music / Video

I would say, it might be better to spend the money creating an SDK and than starting a REAL community project lead by OP.

That's what already will happen (and, in fact, is already happening) without any intervention from headquarters. I think what Craig is after is some ideas about hard hitting apps with a big name behind it as a means of driving sales. "Look, I can play big name game from well known company!" has better marketing potential then "I can play random game that bunch of internet people you've never heard of wrote."

Why not Bioshock? There was a post a short while ago (which was locked for some unknown reason, just as we were building up some really good discussion on the subject, but I digress) that pointed out that Bioshock is already in the works for a port to iPhone and Symbian: ie, IG is already doing ARM-OGLES port. If you threw a few thousand quid at them, think they'd add Pandora to that list?

Toca - Race Driver 3: Already runs on the PSP, so it should be an easy port. Online play's fun too :D

EDIT: + it would be fun wiping the floor with the PSP version, thanks to the extra power of the Pandora ;)

LucasArts’ Star Wars TIE Fighter:
An excellent game that could demonstrate the benefits of Pandora’s control scheme and hardware specs.
Oooh, seconded - or X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter, or X-Wing... pretty much any oif that series of games I'd have thought could be great :D and look unlikely without the original studio being involved.

Oh yeah, I like those too, just picked my all-time favorite.

I think a third-party studio did the Macintosh TIE Fighter port for Lucas.

I don’t know if or how one could convince Lucas to port or expose the TIE Fighter/X-Wing engine code for Pandora use.

Star Wars is huge and having its best PC titles with updated graphics on the Pandora would create tremendous excitement.

I'm not into what EA would require of us to have this game on Pandora.

As for Majesty... Heh... It might just happen. I do know someone who would happen to have a Linux specific port of it that might be convinced if other ports go well and then do well... ;)

Uh...nice thought, but unlikely. The Zeebo is affiliated with the mobile phone companies and therefore is flush with cash and can manage the 5-6 figures per title for rights access to that stuff.

A pipe dream, of course. Even if such a sequel were in the works, it'd be years down the road, and a few thousand consoles wouldn't be enough to sway their thoughts anyway.
Heh... All of everyone's waiting and the year excess delay is probably going to be a winner, actually.

Target Linux, be able to also target Pandora. (If you're OpenGL, you've got some tweaks to do but nothing painful or unreasonable...).

Target Pandora, and you also target Beagleboard and Nokia's new web tablet- and damned near anything else using Linux and the OMAP3, which is going to be bigger than people think it is.

Here's my wishlist of games in order of (my opinion here) probability

Soniic Adventure
Prince of Persia
Star-Wars Roque Squadron (or something similar)
Age of Empires (any of them please)
Spore
Halo (1 or 2 or both or original or something  )

But for the real question... should we invest in this or something else...

I think we need to get the "out-of-the-box SDK" working first and go in the direction of the Android or iPhone/iTouch.

If we want to grab an audience we definatley need something that pushes the hardware and if we go for a RTS we really need to implement the wi-fi and a catch phrase like "Play Anywhere" Soul Caliber seems like it would fit both of those (I know it's not a RTS and I've never played it but I've seen that it is pretty to watch)

That's my expert opinion coming from somebody that doesn't really know what they're talking about :D

Oh yeah... tomb raider please...
itt intelligence is a vice

Half Life. The Pandora could easily run it, and its got some of the best mods ever
Yes and no. Half Life would be great, BUT each mod would have to be ported independently. I do some development for the Sven Coop mod...

Admittedly, if the HL engine were ported, most mods would only require a recompile, in theory.

Kingpin would depend on whether Xatrix (renamed Grey Matter, who is now defunct...) gave Interplay source code access and they were willing to do a respin or if someone from the Xatrix era of that studio has the source code lurking about and is willing (and able...) to give rights access to the engine such that we could talk with Interplay and Good Old Games about a Linux/Pandora version. ;)
