Analyzing 4GB RAM

Another option might be to use full carbon for most of the body, but use regular plastic over the antenna section..
If it's true that carbon composites attenuate the signal significantly more than unreinforced case plastics (I'm sceptical that the difference is worth worrying about), this case design proposal would mean we'd have to point the bottom of our Pyras at the WiFi hot-spot. I suppose this would work if we lie on our backs on the floor, but it might look a bit odd when we're using the device in public.

Thankfully, 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals like to bounce of lots of things. Provided you get get it out of the box without it bouncing on the inside, it'll bounce off external walls, thorough partition walls, and get picked up by your router/ap. You may well get better bandwith with line of sight, but for most purposes it's not necessary.

Any chance of a rough eta at this point?
Not a chance!

No clear definite progress has been made on the 4 GB problem and it seems that those who have the resources to work on it have very little time for it. It might be resolved this afternoon (there are still some things to be checked, or to finish checking, that would really take very little time), or there might be no progress for months.

At some point ED might decide to release a 2-GB-only Pyra, but I don't feel he can really take that decision until it really becomes clear that no progress on the 4 GB problem is likely to be made soon. (And it continues to feel like a solution, possibly a simple one, is right around the corner.) If he does take that decision, of if a resolution to the 4 GB problem is found that doesn't require major modifications to the board design, then realistically it doesn't seem likely that Pyras could be assembled and shipped in less than two months. Three to five months from the date of a decision or breakthrough seems more likely to me.

Essentially we are still iterating in the design/prototype/bugfix phase. So regarding an ETA, I would say not earlier than Q2 2018. But be prepared for it being later (This is my estimate and in no way an official statement by the team).

Last thing that I have seen about the 4GB issue was:
https://www.pyra-handheld.com/pipermail/kernel/2017-October/002093.html

Latest news on the cases was this tweet by ED:

Not sure if that ever happened.

Because heaven forbid that these people have lives, jobs, and things to do outside of the Pyra, right?

If it was good news then he would probably have tweeted a picture of the cases while saying they were done.

Almost 18 months since preorders have started. Does anyone feel responsible?
for what? for one thing they are doing everything they can do. there not google or apple. i have to say this is is going better than the pandora. we all knew there was going to be a wait and trial and error phase with it. if you expected it asap then im sorry but its going to take a bit for them to get this working the way they want also we have known for awhile that the cases where in limbo due to the seems to me the incompetence of the manufacture of them. also dont forget that they have been working on the 4gb issue also. eeven if the cases where there and they could start building, they cant do anything till that issue is fixed. so sit back relax have a BEER and BBQ and let them work. on a side note i did order a 4gb pyra and its paid off so
