i would have preferred a base-6 number system...

oh wait, it's just convention anyway.
 
base 6 is also a "highly composite number" (like 12). it has a perk that you can show a two digit number with both hands, without really thinking about it. (the Chinese have a neat way to represent a decimal digit with one hand, and also sign language...)

of course, that only gets you from 0 up to 35, but who counts beyond that anyways?

Something that can serve as a visual representation of binary numbers, as opposed to writing out the numbers. Just divide every group of 3 bits such that any number bigger than 50 doesn't just look like a giant mess of characters mashed together to form a cold script very few can understand. Much like a politician's speech.

I sometimes wanted to learn binary, but I don't like the long ass line of numbers. Since I already put commas after every 3rd number (except decimals), I already have the tendency to divide every 3rd group of numbers in my mind. This octomath would make digesting binary so much easier for me (and more aesthetically pleasing, since it's characters representing numbers as opposed to the cold, dead numbers themselves).

How would this work for numbers smaller than 1? Just do the same thing, except in reverse? Octomath wants the numbers to go from right-to-left, but I'm seeing binary examples go from left-to-right. So, would I do right-to-left on the left side of the decimal point and right-to-left on the right side of the decimal point? That would be cool. (EDIT: Just saw how the right side of the decimal is handled in binary. The answer is yes. It IS cool!) I know characters on most keyboards are typed left-to-right, but I guess if you already have the number in your head, then typing 10100 or _|_ |__ for 20 wouldn't be a tall order, no matter how the text comes out.

I will say, however, that I'm not so sure about applying octomath to chronology. The day-time system I'm used to, as are many others, seems fine. Except that a perpetual calendar, such as the World Calendar, would be nice, but I rather like how time is generally kept, at least on a 24hr clock. And the time zones seem to work as well.

Daylight savings time can go drink dishwater though.
 
@tigerroast: Yeah, time is like that (60) because it has so many integer dividers (2;3;4;5;6;10;12;15;20;30;60).

One thing I found fascinating is the joining of DNA codons and I-ching hexa-grams. Which are both 64.

Another unrelated concept I found interesting is that Hebrew and Arab letters are a 2d projection (a shadow) of a 3d golden-mean spiral.

one of my colleagues was only Jewish in name, but then started getting into the religious aspect as well. he was trying to get me to understand how important it was to read the texts in the original languages, partly by talking about numerology and what each name represented. before his change of heart, one of his favorite sayings was "shit's rollin" (as in, things were going swimmingly). i found out that the Google translate of this saying was equal (numerologically speaking) to Abraham (or maybe Abram), which makes sense because lots of stuff was happening in Abraham's day.

he hasn't talked much with me since.

i think i read somewhere that it was made with GameMaker... which i think has a linux port. (maybe?).

anyway, he doesn't have to release the source if he allows a small Seb to port it closed source, or if he gets the linux stuff working (may be hard without expertise?). they went on to do rivals of aether, which is probably something they don't want opensource, as it's on steam, so they may not want the predecessor opensource either.

Maybe you are referring to RPG maker since GameMaker is always mentioned as a problem when it comes to Linux ports, that's why the great freeware games by Daniel Remar like Hero Core, Hyper Princess Pitch and (especcailly) "Iji" still have no Linux ports.
 
@Klumpen, that's sad! i just saw hyper princess pitch the other day, and it looked really fun :). but yeah, running just linux here, would love to see a port.
